  1. OK, going to start this off by probably saying the opposite of what you're all thinking. First, we played great, but no better than we did last night. Lots of energy, explosive and aggressive. Russia was just bad. Lack of defence on the part of the forwards and the defence were soft and lazy...no commitment to defence by the whole team. They hung their goalie out to dry and only one goal was really his fault. Dont' think Lou was a star either. He has played no better than Brodeur and he didn't outplay Nabokov tonight...Lou just had more help on defence. Even though the US game was a good one...they just couldn't get the breaks. I'm happy with how they've played the last 3 games, and hope it continues. Sure is fun watching the games...these guys are playing with a lot of energy and passion.
  2. I've messed around with a few lines on the 1134, and picked the brain of lot of the guys in BC who are using it a lot, and if you're looking to use it for spey casting, a 270 or 300 grain scandi head seems to be the best match. I have both the lines set up for my rod with rio slick shooter as the running line. Fishtales should have the 'trout spey', and the 10' 6wt, but I'm not sure if they have the blanks and components. There are a couple people who have documented their build of the 1134 on the FlyBC board. Check that out if you're interested. Haven't heard of the waders being sold yet in Canada, but some of the other stuff like the gear bags and belly bags and really nice and a very good price. The 1134 is a sweet little rod, and should fit nice for the Bow.
  3. Damn, boficals on mj's. And I thought they were cool. What pair did you get. Love my stingrays
  4. I have a 'thing' for wooden nets, but like the traditional style mesh. Find the rubber too heavy on the bigger nets I use. My two favs are a Rushton Dragon with pearl inserts, and a Moby.
  5. You can get some great, custom rods, for a good price. Go with the idea that there is no warranty though. There are so many variables that it's better just to assume ahead of time that you're on your own if you break it. Still can be a good idea to purchase one, just assume it has no warranty.
  6. Unfortunately you do not seem to get that this is your problem not ours. Your belief is that we're 'idiots' because we can't follow your logic or because we don't agree we you....or better yet, because we can't read between the lines. It's your responsibility to make us understand...if you can't do that, that's your problem, not only ours. Work on your communication skills, cause I can't see many people wanting to jump on your bandwagon. And be careful how much of your 'job' or profession you let out. 'Cause I'm not too sure I'd want you 'representing' my organization. And the conclusions that I am jumping to are being formed from what you communicated to us.
  7. Great to meet many of you at the booth. I seem to know so many of you by your 'handles' but not enough by your faces. It was cool to hang out for the weekend and talk fly fishing for three days straight.
  8. Rick, do you have the bag still kicking around and remember the specific brand?
  9. Yup, Harry's sat there for two straight days now, just selling raffle tickets. Donating all the time, AND the top prize for raffle. Get out and buy some tickets.
  10. Great time...and damn, that was good coffee.
  11. When I finally get going, I start with what I need first. That usually means worms and small midge patterns for the Crow in winter, then my lake flies for the spring (which usually includes dozens of chironomids and leeches), and then move onto the summer flies for the cutty streams (like humpys and stoneflies and Klinkhammer style patterns). I usually don't get to the summer patterns now until summer though...I remember the days where I would just tie and actually run out of things to tie...now it's much more fishing and less tying...many times I'm tying the night before a long trip. I like the new trend
  12. Awesome Harry....this should generate a lot of interest. Count me in for a few.
  13. That's the jacket!
  14. That's actually funny as I started a post about a year ago on the flybc board trying to find out the same thing. I'm pretty sure it's an arcteryx, but I think it's a prototype as I can't find it anywhere on the internet. I just like how it's a little longer.
  15. Yup, both of those were great threads on the Drake. Haven't seen the book yet, but would still pick it up.
  16. Looks like I'll be around for more than one day this year. I should be able to make it for some coffee.
  17. Haven't missed one yet, and won't be missing this one either.
  18. Try not to cut pre drilled holes also. I know it's tempting to see a hole that may only be half frozen, but I've found the ice to be really uneven and tough on the blades. Always start a new hole.
  19. The Cypress Fly Fishing club will host it's first meeting this Tuesday, Jan 5, 7:00 pm at Eagle Butte High School. This is a club based out of the Medicine Hat area and everyone is welcome. Great opportunity to meet some fellow fly fishers and make it through the winter months. (Note: Global warming will not be discussed ) Bring a friend.
  20. Can you off the christmas present for a while? Take a trip to the expo in Jan, talk to some people, and cast some rods. See which rod feels the best to you.
  21. Probably the best video posted on this web site yet!
  22. Save as much money as you can. I have numerous light weight reels, and I can't remember the last time they've seen the backing. Find something light...you don't need no $300 reel for a 3 wt on small creeks. If you want to spend $ (nothing wrong with that...seriously...I like nice gear too), look at a hardy light weight, or Islander IR . To save money, go check out FishTales and see some of the reels under $200.
  23. The boa lacing system is the best thing to happen to boots period! I bought the boots for this function alone and it has never failed me. I find you loose a bit of grip with the felt not going completely to the edges though. No issues at all with the soles coming out. They do fit small though, so try them on with YOUR waders.

John, your pattern isn't actually very far off of one I use Not the best pic, but it's also the combination of, or adapting existing patterns. Can't think of any 'new' pattern out there that couldn't be called similar to another. I use to tie mine with a red bead and full hackle all the way through years back (a lot like yours), but I found that the glass bead broke too often and I like the slimmer profile. I call the fly a 'leech' but I'm thinking they take it just as often as a damsel. Hook size 12 TMC 200R Tail black marabou Weight .20 front third Body Green ice dub Rib Fine silver wire Hackle webby grizzley died olive green Head large red head made from thread. Had a few variations, but haven't changed this one for 3 or 4 years now. Thinking of replacing the hackle with some marabou spun around to make a collar (cut short to similar length as hackle) Like your fly...like slim profile and the suggestiveness of many food items.
