  1. Terry Clayton, Fisheries Biologist with Alberta Fish and Wildlife, will be holding a meeting at the Beyond Walls School on Wednesday night, March 28 at 8PM. The purpose of the meeting is to give anglers an opportunity to provide Terry with ideas for angling regulation changes and ways to improve fisheries in the Medicine Hat area. Terry will not be giving a formal presentation, but instead will try to answer questions from those anglers present. Beyond Walls school is at 1008A Allowance Ave (it looks more like a business than a school). It's by the overpass and REDI Enterprises. (Also across the street from the Outdoorsman sporting goods store).
  2. There was a pod cast on it. I liked the pod cast. Cool things to listen to on your way to the fishing hole.

    This Season

Nice pics. Those 'mini canyon' pics are pretty cool.
  4. hmm...peaked my interest. In fact floating any new river peaks my interest.
  5. This is exactly what we're talking about. LOL Unless the stories changed, the lady hooked a fish while she was wade fishing, slipped and fell her. Her friend ran in after her and drowned trying to save her. I don't believe they were ever in a boat. I've fished the Chek with the people from this particular guide company and we drove to the river for the walk and wade. If you're bashing on people for not wearing a life jacket while walk and wading, then add me to your list (and I'm more likely to agree with Headscans number of 1/8 of 1%). Using your logic, how far do we take it? Not stepping into the river even if you're wearing PFD...there's still risk involved there. I don't blame the guide or individuals who passed. It's unfortunate but you can't take every risk out of being in nature. You take what you deem as reasonable precautions and go out and enjoy the day. In my mind making clients where aPFD while they are walk and wade fishing is not the way to go.
  6. Condolences for everyone involved. Horrible for families who lost loved ones and the guides involved. Drowning
  7. Done it a bit out of a boat. Went with some guys in the know and all they ever used was minnows. Never changed up. If I remember right, I think he said about 80% of the sturgeon in the river are under 20lbs. We did get 2 over 20...with me landing one at 56 lbs...largest in his boat that year. They're a riot. They jump and and they don't give up.
  8. Unless things have changed...they don't ship to Canada.
  9. Shops are actually starting to let them go for that price. Poppy's red shed in Idaho was one of them...all out now.
  10. Weather didn't cooperate much, but still and a great time. Some good people to fish with, and even found some big fish.
  11. kk...thanks
  12. Thanks...so what would be your predictions...May long unlikely then?
  13. Anyone know the ice status of Lower K and Wedge pond? Thinking might make a trip May long...might be wishful thinking though.
  14. This guy is frickin' awesome. He actually has a few fly fishing weekly wisdoms.
  15. Take a look at them all...but from what you've said so far, make sure you look at the "Midge". Go check it out at FishTales
  16. I'll start it off...$100 on #6
  17. These type of letters are important, but even a simple "Terry, I'm in favour of keeping the Police Outpost regs currently as they are" goes a LONG way also. It takes 30 sec to send an email off. I don't want to spend my springs in BC or Manitoba.
  18. Good luck with this! Hopefully it means longer floats down the Elk now.
  19. Pushing over 20 rods. But back on track...I have 2 amundson wind warrior 10' 5wts, an amundson wind warrior 10' 6 wt and a sage z axis 10' 6wt. I like the longer rods as I find if you pick the right rod, you don't notice the extra weight. I find the Amundsons and the Sage both to be light in hand, responsive, and not tip heavy at all (The Amundson 5wt is better at this than the Amundson 6wt though) Love them for lake fishing. Can't remember the last time I choose a 9' over them. I also have a 10' dan craft 3wt that I use for high sticking on the Crow in winter. Love how it controls the drift so much better than the shorter rods.
  20. I agree with both of you. Islander pricing is a little screwed up here in Canada. You can buy a new Islander IR for around 350 here in Canada, and most people will sell them used for 250 or 300. You can also buy the same reel NEW for 250 on Ebay from a US dealer. As Taco said, Canadians value their Islanders more than Americans it seems. And they're great reels...I have a little IR1 on my 2 wt that I love.
  21. Go to Fishtales and try a few out...they have some 10' 5wts there.

    Practice

Nope, no problems casting in the gym...just don't wrap the fly line around the backboards.
  23. I received the new Loop jacket a couple years ago right when it came out. I like the look of it, but don't find it very warm...it's basically just a shell, and if you're wearing it without waders, it can get chilly if you don't layer underneath it. Look for something that has a little more to it than a shell.
  24. OK, I'm as big of a gear monger as anyone...but I think I'll draw the line at the new Abel nippers. Abel Nippers Wondering what their zinger goes for?
  25. If you already have a 6wt, and you're looking for another rod, I would go for a 4 wt. It's nice to jump by 2's when you're buying your first few rods. When you get the 4wt, and the 8wt you can then start looking at 5's or 2's For a 4wt for the Livingston, highwood to thow dries...look at the midge. For a 4 wt for the Lvingston, Highwood, Bow to throw dries and nymph some, look at the Wind Warrior 9'...there's just a little more power in this rod and the extra length helps for nymphing. It is 'faster' than the midge, but I don't mind a fast rod for dry fly fishing as it helps to battle the wind and tossing big stonefly patterns (for calm conditions, and smaller dries...I love a slower rod...unfortunatly that usually doesn't relate to cutty fishing around here) Most importantly though...try a bunch of rods within your price range, and see which one casts the best for you. See you a the show!
