  1. Why must the gov't get its nose into everything? Less legislation I say!

  3. A redneck was stopped by a game warden in Central Mississippi recently with two ice chests full of fish. He was leavin' a cove well-known for its fishing. The game warden asked the man, 'Do you have a license to catch those fish?' 'Naw, sir', replied the redneck. 'I ain't got none of them there licenses. You must understand, these here are my pet fish. 'Pet fish?' 'Yeah. Every night, I take these here fish down to the lake and let 'em swim round for awhile. Then, when I whistle, they jump right back into these here ice chests and I take 'em home.' 'That's a bunch of hooey!; Fish can't do that.' The redneck looked at the warden for a moment and then said, 'It's the truth Mr. Government Man. I'll show ya... It really works.' 'O.K.', said the warden. 'I've got to see this!' The redneck poured the fish into the lake and stood and waited. After several minutes, the warden says, 'Well?' 'Well, what?', says the redneck. The warden says, 'When are you going to call them back?' 'Call who back?' 'The FISH', replied the warden! 'What fish?', replied the redneck. Moral of the story: We may not be as smart as some city slickers, but we ain't as dumb as some government employees. You can say what you want about the South, but you never hear of anyone retiring and moving north.
  4. I moved from the big city to the country and stopped using WD 40 because the dust sticks to the tires like white on rice. I imagine it would do the same on your rod.
  5. Sorry to here about the camera loss, hopin' it gets returned. After losing my first rod and reel at policemans flats several years back I bought an engraver and now label everything I own (tools, rods, reels, yes even the camera) This puts the onus on the finder to return the item to the rightful owner. It also makes said item a lot harder to pawn.
  6. Great job Dick! Hope it fishes well for you this summer! Enjoy!
  7. Quote Daxlarson: "Today I landed one rainbow, and 2 whitefish. and I lost about 10 whitefish. I would have been happy if all I had caught was the one rainbow. " FFWD a couple of days... "I'm thinking we should do something to raise awareness, and possibly do something to completely lift the bait fishing session on ALL rivers, and lower the whitefish limit to 2 fish, which is more similar to most other fish species and give them a fair chance." Just sayin'
  8. Isn't the perfection or the bimini. The loop end is large and is not one but three loops. I'm guessin to keep it from cutting into the flyline.
  9. Great link Uberfly. I have used the improved clinch knot for years to tie the terminal tackle on. Lately I have been using the palomar knot for streamers as this knot is unbelievably strong. Try it and see, you'll break somewhere other than knot failure. All the other knots I use are typical to the link posted. Fish tales tied my backing to my flyline with a cool loop to loop connection. Don't know how but it looks very strong. Anybody know the name for that type of knot?
  10. I was going to say toilet paper too, but dismissed it. Toilet paper is not so much unusual as it is a necessity. You only have to get caught out there once without it, then your never without it again!
  11. Okay so everybody has had a chance to put the hate on their least favorite line, now is there such a thing as a good line? Have you found one that casts the way you'd hoped? Maybe a floating line that will actually keep the tip from drowning. Here is your chance to show some love. I'll get this whole thing started. Now I don't have a huge arsenal of rods and lines and my target fish is trout here in Alberta. I own a Cortland peach with a sink tip that to this day I don't have a whole lot of experience with. I prefer a floating line as this gets the job done without the extra spools or rod to take along. The most recent line that I purchased is a 6 wt Airflo ridgeline that I like...lots. I'm thinking the next line that I try will probably be the Rio Grande. And what is your experience? Any line that has cut the mustard for you?
  12. If the reel is intended for a 3 wt it should allow for a really small fish to pull line. Sounds like a manufacturing issue to me. I'm sure some here may disagree; but if you plan to target mountain cutts then a click pawl will easily be adequate .
  13. Here is a great deal if you both want individual crafts. http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-ViewAdLargeImage?AdId=179182827
  14. Have you seen this one? http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-b...QAdIdZ177306444
  15. I too use the airflo line. I use the tactical ridge line and am very happy with it. It is designed with grooves running down the entire length to reduce friction and increase lubrication. I find it shoots line like a dream. This is gonna be my third year fishing this line and it is still going strong. I don't think I can detect any deterioration in the line yet. It has a 5 yr guarantee against cracks. I may sound like a rep, but I am just a satisfied customer. Worth a try at the show if ya get a chance.
  16. Lot's of people out today, thought this thread should be bumped up. Take care out there everyone.
  17. My suggestion, be it extreme, is to have catch and release only reg's implemented for moving water. Let those who want to eat fish take the stocked fish from put and take lakes. Keep our trout rivers full with wild trout that are healthy and they (Tourists) will come. The more people that we have enjoying our fisheries the better protected they become. Extreme? Well I suppose, but I think the fishing would be incredible...
  18. I'd say that if your quarry is trout you have nailed it by having your drag set to control the line on the reel from backlash. A large trout should be able to be controlled with a little palming of the reel added to that if necessary.
  19. That would be great Max I'd love to see this fly broken down to it's individual steps. Looking forward to your next post!
  20. Maxwell, I hear what your saying with regard to cutting line and doubling the line weight to load the rod. It will load at shorter distances, but your now throwing a fat, heavy line. It just doesn't seem right, your not really fishing the rod the way it was intended to be fished. A fast action light weight rod should probably be reserved for the likes of the bow for dries. I'm gonna sell the rod and get a one that can load at short distances. I just think the experience will be enhanced with a small fish on a rod that flexes. Even more than that it will load at close range which is key to my enjoyment on small streams. My $0.02
  21. The IRS decides to audit Grandpa, and summons him to the IRS office. The IRS auditor was not surprised when Grandpa showed up with his attorney. The auditor said, 'Well, sir, you have an extravagant lifestyle and no full-time employment, Which you explain by saying that you win money gambling. I'm not sure the IRS finds that believable.' I'm a great gambler, and I can prove it,' says Grandpa. 'How about a demonstration?' The auditor thinks for a moment and said, 'Okay. Go ahead.' Grandpa says, 'I'll bet you a thousand dollars that I can bite my own eye.' The auditor thinks a moment and says, 'It's a bet...' Grandpa removes his glass eye and bites it. The auditor's jaw drops. Grandpa says, 'Now, I'll bet you two thousand dollars that I can bite my other eye.' Now the auditor can tell Grandpa isn't blind, so he takes the bet.. Grandpa removes his dentures and bites his good eye. The stunned auditor now realizes he has wagered and lost three grand, with Grandpa's attorney as a witness. He starts to get nervous. 'Want to go double or nothing?' Grandpa asks 'I'll bet you six thousand dollars that I can stand on one side of your desk, and pee into that wastebasket on the other side, and never get a drop anywhere in between.' The auditor, twice burned, is cautious now, but he looks carefully and decides there's no way this old guy could possibly manage that stunt, so he agrees again.. Grandpa stands beside the desk and unzips his pants, but although he strains mightily, he can't make the stream reach the wastebasket on the other side, so he pretty much urinates all over the auditor's desk. The auditor leaps with joy, realizing that he has just turned a major loss into a huge win. But Grandpa's own attorney moans and puts his head in his hands. 'Are you okay?' the auditor asks. 'Not really,' says the attorney. 'This morning, when Grandpa told me he'd been summoned for an audit, he bet me twenty-five thousand dollars that he could come in here and pee all over your desk and that you'd be happy about it!'
  22. No expert here, but this is my experience, You say that you want to fish small streams with it. If that is the case then I would go for a rod that has some flex. You want to deliver a well placed fly in close quarters so you shouldn't have to lay out 90' of line. I bought a fast action rod for the mtn streams and am disappointed with it for just that reason. You have to stand a mile away from the fish just to load a fast action rod. You want to stalk the fish at close quarters, that is the fun in small stream fishing. Yes they may throw a larger loop but you are not on the flats stalking bone fish. And if the wind picks up in the mountains I would suggest laying that fine dry fly rod down, grab the streamer rod and target the bullies.
