Just In Time For The Ffing Expo
brownonbow replied to Taco's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Badcaster, it looks like your avatar has hooked into a nice buck there so that reel might come in handy after all!!! It's the catch and release part that gets a little dodgy with the deer. -
Came across a guy panning for gold at McKinnon this summer. Said he'd panned about $20.00 worth. I dunno if that was true or if he figured since he was talking to a fisherman he had the right to embellish the truth... anyhow his little boat was called the s.s. minnow, so he had a great sense of humor to be sure.

Think you were goin' for damn. But you're the one calling the sp. mistakes.

World economy? Missed an IR 2 islander reel and spool on e-bay this morning for $225 -
Or in the flyfishermans case: your leader is only as strong as your weakest knot! Tied a bunch up tonight with 6 lb spiderline and they seem quite good. They have all the tendencies of a furled leader with good turnover and suppleness. The thing I really like about this leader is that it could be made on stream or on a high mountain lake if you were in a pinch.

I am now going downstairs to raid my boys' tackle box!!! Definitely worth a try!!! COOL! Thx for the post.

An old, “blind” cowboy wanders into an all-girl biker bar by mistake. He finds his way to a bar stool and orders a shot of Jack Daniels. After sitting there for a while, he yells to the bartender, 'Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?' The bar immediately falls absolutely silent. In a very deep, husky voice, the woman next to him says, 'Before you tell that joke, Cowboy, I think it is only fair,Given that you are blind, that you should know five things: 1. The bartender is a blonde girl with a baseball bat. 2. The bouncer is a blonde girl. 3. I'm a 6-foot tall, 175-pound blonde woman with a black belt in karate. 4. The woman sitting next to me is blonde and a professional weight lifter. 5. The lady to your right is blonde and a professional wrestler. Now, think about it seriously, Cowboy. Do you still wanna tell that blonde joke?' The blind cowboy thinks for a second, shakes his head and mutters, 'No not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times.'

Personally I think the sparkle on a dry is more for the one tying the hook on than the one biting the fly.

Amen Silverdoc, amen! I fished the Henry's fork a couple of years ago and there was just a small section open by St. Anthony's. I was absolutely blown away by how many guy's were fishing it. And that was early in the off season. Them yanks like to fish. Go down there and then you'll have a new perspective on "crowded" I believe the more guy's we have that love the bow, as many of us here do, the more protection it is also going to have. Yes it may be a little more crowded but the conservation that should result could be a good thing for the river.

What Should I Look For In Waders
brownonbow replied to jasonvilly's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
If your going to get serious about fly fishing I would buy the best you can afford, after all you are probably going to wear them every time you go out from here on. Personally I like the breathable with neoprene feet. I have Dan Bailey's and find them quite good but I think that Simms still make the best. -
My Quest For Golden Trout Or How I Learned To Find Snow Beautiful
brownonbow replied to Heimdallr's topic in Photo Posts
Great story, hope that doesn't happen to me this weekend though. -
Hypocrisy is my guess.

You are crazy!!! Take care on those mountain lakes as the wind can whip up pretty fast and things can get harry very quickly in a little craft like that. Keep the adventures coming.
-
Looks like fun, I hope to go out this weekend for the first time this year. Gotta get there before the dreaded snow starts to fly.

And to think all that knowledge will go to the grave with him.

I reiterate S,J, then prince, then C,J. Little thingamabobber indicator above it all to detect strikes.

San juan, followed by a prince followed by a copper john, there problem solved, fish caught.

Mark me down for sharing the info, I had a hard enough time when I started and really appreciated any advice from those in the know. So ya any chance I can I will pass along the small bits of info I have accumulated over the years. Its just such a great sport and I want those who are new to it to succeed. We all know the local flyshop could use the $

I've got the simms boot (not sure of the model)as well and I've gotta say I am really happy with them. I had previously wore out my boots in a year or maybe two. I stepped up to the simms boot and I gotta say for me they are worth the $ They've got to be 3 yrs old already and still going strong. I do fish mostly the bow, which the other boots could not even stand up to. Alan2, have you tried vibran soles? Maybe they would go the distance for the rocks.

I too saw the effects of 'foreigners' fishing at the upper lake a few weeks back. I'm tellin' ya everything they caught was bagged. I realize that it has been stocked and fish over 12" are allowed to be kept, but c'mon, there is still a daily limit. They never caught any bulls but I had my suspicions that they would have been happy to take them as well.

Calgary's Lack Of "culture"
brownonbow replied to appaloosa's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Ian Tyson, Corb Lund, Tim Huss, K.D. Lang, Joni Mitchell, Whoops!!! those last two slipped... If you all are really lookin' to find some GREAT Alberta culture check out Wide Cut Country on the mighty C.K.U.A 93.7 on Saturday from 10 to noon on your F.M. dial. Seriously, Allison Brock has impeccable taste in music!!! I submit that those who are accusing Alberta of having no culture simply don't like the culture they have found here. Nothing wrong with being a redneck... it just means that you are not thinking with you head up your ass!!!
