  1. Definitely easiest to make your own if you want quality snaps and wire. 2 ft of 30 lb Rio wire connected to 7.5 ft of 30 lb maxima using a Double Uni knot (http://www.seaguar.com/applications/knot-guide/64-double-uni-knot.html). Loop the free end of the maxima and loop to loop to your fly line and you are ready to fish. I either fish with a snap swivel on the free end of the wire to make fly changes easy or if I am sight fishing then I tie the wire to the fly. Also have used bcube's way but have been bitten off by big fish occasionally. Also when using wire or flouro keep an eye out for abrasion, frayed wires, and nicks as pike leaders don't last forever.
  2. Not sure about the ones in Montana but I just ran through the inspection station this weekend coming back from Cascade, MT. I know a bunch of people doing the inspections and they will be set up at Coutts, Crowsnest Pass, Dunmore, Oyen, and a bunch of other sites. They are looking for anything invasive with the main concern on Zebra and Quagga Mussels as well as Eurasian Water Milfoil. Basically make sure you wash your boat well between water bodies and drain anywhere that might hold water. I wasn't aware that it was mandatory to get inspected in Montana before dropping into the water and the US border guys said nothing about it.
  3. 60 lb firewire works well or slick shooter running line
  4. had the same thing happen to me with a brand new stonofo bobbin, sliced through everything after a few wraps.
  5. Thanks everyone! We have started to film for more movies already and hope to have a few out by the start of summer! Zach
  6. Just thought i would throw this on the forum for everyone to see!
  7. I have a Helios 7wt 11" that i mostly two hand spey cast with but when the need arises like beach fishing ill throw a 250gr streamer express surf line on it and it casts quite well. I only fish streamers with it but i may end up skating dries to steelhead. I fish a 480gr skagit for my moving water stuff.
  8. Lamponius, I first started flyfishing when i was seven and that was one of the spots my father took me too, im almost eighteen now. Its great that your keeping it quiet maybe ill see you there some time! have fun up there!
  9. theres no mistaking that spot! i havent been there yet this year but its great to hear the fish are eager! zach
  10. Defintely in love with the cliff fly boxes! I carry the bugger beast for all of my streamers, one for trout and one for pike. I would definetly reccomend the bugger beast junior!
  11. Like wolfie is saying, in black but sometimes i throw a bright orange tungsten bead on and that seems to be all the difference on lakes. Zach
  12. Im jealous! i was there two weekends ago and the fishing was super slow and i only was able to tie into a couple of bow's.
  13. Nice fish! im pretty sure i caught the same fish 3 weeks ago because judging by the spot you are at and your description that he was "in between two rocks". seems to me like it would be a fluke if it was a different 23.5" brown who was also dark which i caught.
  14. it probably could be but like you said it is hard to come by so i use ep fibers for posts and it works well.
  15. i think ill have to try tying some baitfish imitations with it as well as some clousers.
