  1. Nice fish, Brudis. I gotta figure a way to get there. That last fish is a monster, looks to be 30", did you weigh it at 10lbs? Looks bigger
  2. Taco you are the best.....that was priceless. Most useful article I have ever read
  3. being it is the last 6" is completely shattered the best you can do is to cut the rod just below the break cleanly (use the edge of a flat file and ring cut it) find a tip top that fits and epoxy it it place. All rod builders can do it but you should be able to get it done on your own.
  4. The BCMI is fine they have two motels one on the highway in Coleman and the Best Canadian in Blairmore. The Cosmopolitan (The Cos 403 562 7321) downtown is very good hotel with rooms comparable to the BCMI. It is a 2 star rated hotel with newly renovated rooms. It is quite good. Some weekends the bar can be quite busy after midnight so it would be better to get a room near the back and higher than the second floor. Goat Mountain in Frank (403 562 8897) has great little cabins in a quiet (inspite of being close to the highway) setting. There is also Eckardt's Tecumseh Mountain Guest Ranch (403 563 3900) about 4 miles west and north of coleman in a secluded area with nice rustic cabins. Owner is a flyfishing nut.
  5. I am on the road a lot and XM is worth having I think I pay about $12 a month....good stations good sound no matter where you are
  6. Huh....way too much for a fisherman's brain to handle!!!
  7. Route is very close to the red line but approximate. Park where the red line starts. Cross the river. Walk east and north you will hit an old logging or exploration trail. It was fairly wide and well defined (havent been there for quite a few years). Follow the trail, when the trail hits the base of the ridge you want to go up it takes a fairly sharp turn to the north (your left) watch your right hand side very closely looking for a small trail heading up into the timber. It is very close to the curve in the trail I mentioned earlier. After a climb through the trees you will hit the open slope and ridge follow it up you will at the top drop into a small valley through the trees. Close to the creek (I dont think you see it initially) you will turn south and climb gently up to the first lake. Last time I was up the trail is well defined. Hardest part was finding the turnoff the old logging road. From there it is easy...well to follow any way. My first time up we missed the turn...took us (with packs) over 4 hours to get to the lake. Last time up my brother and I made it in 45 minutes. Just packing lunch and fishing gear. Packing enough to camp for a couple of days it usually took a bit more than 2 to 2.5 hours. Haven't been up there since about 1989 or 90. Would like to go again but I think the hike would kill me. I won't say the start of the red line is accurate but close. There used to be old pieces of a bridge on the east side of the river where the old road was that would be your starting point on the trail.
  8. Good to see you didnt let a little ice deter you from having some fun
  9. Wow what talent shown here! Good work everyone
  10. Thanks Tako (didnt have time to play) Weedy, when I went out this morning it was -14 and not nice...so didnt bring a rod (besides the streams I went to look at are still closed) and glad I didnt. It would of been tempting if I had a rod with me. I wanted to check out a couple of places where I thought I might get some pics of fish..but they generally saw me or my dog before I saw them and away they would go. Thanks for the birthday wishes. You are more than welcome DBT.....you dont wanna know how big he is?
  11. Went for a drive and walk with the dog today...saw a few fish but only got a pic of this one he was moving pretty good...so not the best pictures

    Cuba Si!

Good for you. I have dreamed of one of those for over a couple decades now. Yep number one on my list of things to do before.... yeah colour me green! A baby one like that would do.
  16. hi npauls, it may have been me you met on the river Sat. afternoon. I met a couple of young guys from Lethbridge that had caught a couple. Guess I should of asked if it was Lethfisher. I was thinking it may have been. Any way it was nice meeting the two of you and hope to see you again, next time we should know each other.
  17. This issue has been a major source of frustration for the pass for a decade. Highway 3 through the pass is seeing up to 16,000 vehicles a day during peak times. I believe that is close to twice the traffic that justifies a 4 lane highway. Highway 4 south of Lethbridge to Coutts handles only 4,000 vehicles per day and is twinned. As Terry has said the highspeed bypass is 20-30 years away from what Transportation tells us and it will use a route that was gazetted back in the 70's. Transportations proposed route would head straight west leaving its current route near the Macs store. The proposed highway will cross the wetlands between Coleman and Blarimore and will follow a bench south of the Crowsnest River and Coleman rejoining the current alignment near the information centre close to Crowsnest Lake. The municipality would love to see a different solution to our highway problems. We would like a lower speed highway maintained along its current route with 4 lanes undivided to reduce its footprint. The highway needs to be able to handle the large volume of traffic but does not need to be a pipeline through the pass. With the ability to handle increased volumes work has to be done to better handle traffic flow at the various access points to the highway from our towns. In recent talks with Transportation they have been agreeable to work on short to mid term solutions that will serve us for up to the next 20 years. This will include a 2 way turning lane through Coleman, restricting the number of access points to the highway, improving the accesses that are left, with the possibility of controlling some intersections with traffic lights. As far as wildlife concerns, studies are ongoing with a road watch program to determine the best locations for wildlife crossings. There seems to be no opposition from Transportation to including these crossings in their plans. Local conservation groups have been working on these studies for a few years now.
  18. Shows how little everyone knows It is a surprise to everyone for sure. Hardly anyone expected more than 55 seats for the PC's. I didn't think they would get more than 50. Well the good thing ...there should be continuity.
  19. I am sure your mom in law would be tickled pink to associated with such a fine fish

    A Nice Fish..

yeah nice brown..I miss having them down here. Guess I am going to have to get up there once in while.
  21. Lynn, very sad news . Went through a similiar situation just over a decade ago. It is unfair that such a tragedy should happen to young family and a young friend. Do your best to enjoy your time with Leanne and help her enjoy life as best you can. Take care.
  22. yep Birchy is right. Live in ranch country close to Longview, Highwood, Sheep, Bow, hookers just over half an hour away in calgary.....why in the world would anyone want to live anywhere else? Me? I am quite happy right where I am.
  23. I couldnt say Reg...but I would guess they are going to watch the tracks through the Pass a tad closer...I am sure they really dont want any serious occurances.
