  1. Clive, that is an excellent and informative read. It is easy to sit here in Alberta and think all of BC is against pipelines but this letter, written by the Mayor of Fort St. John, is full of information accompanied by facts.
  2. My sincere condolences to the family of this fisherman. My utmost respect and gratitude to the fellow that pulled him to shore in an attempt to save his life.
  3. The sky is pretty nice!
  4. I posted this one a couple of years ago. It is a very simple tie. 12 or 14 or 16 nymph hook Black or orange glass bead Two strands of pearl crystal flash or similar for the tail extending rearward about the hook gape width Next, tie on 1/8 inch midge flex, Summer Duck colour works best. This is the shell back to be stretched forward over the body material later. Tie in four strands of peacock herl at the shell back tie in point, wrap the herl around the tieing thread and wrap the herl forward to the bead head. Tie off the herl and remove the excess. Tie in black biot legs on each side, extending back to the end of the tail. Pull the midge flex forward and tie off and trim. The last step is to apply a small bead of Clear Cure Goo. Over the shell back and thread wraps. Activate the clear cure goo with a UV light.
  5. Never keep any fish. That's not to say that years ago I didn't but like most here have stated, as far back as I can remember haven't kept any.
  6. Foamy, those are great looking mice! You must have a very tolerant wife, I bet there is Deer hair all over the place. Mice ties anyhow. Murray
  7. Excellent! It would be a shame to destroy that fishery.
  8. Kieth, give me a shout on Thursday next week, I have a Zodiac with floor that I wanted to put seats in but did not have a rowing frame. The seats that I did come up with work very well, you might want to take a look. As mentioned above, the non bailer floor is a non issue as far as I'm concerned. I've had many floats on the river and the only water inside the boat was caused by heavy rainfall during the float. I have the wooden floorboards from an older shorter Zodiac that might work for you also.
  9. That's excellent Lornce. Thanks.
  10. Thanks Brian, I know the penalties are pretty severe and I'd rather not get a ticket for something that can be avoided. I tried the link you sent me but it won't open. Says server error file could not be found. I'll try again later. Thanks again Brian
  11. What does everyone know about the boat inspections? Does it have to be inspected before every trip or launch? Can I be pro active and take it someplace in town before I have a trip or do I just wait until I go through a stop check on the highway? Is there a charge for the inspection? Are pontoon boats part of the "boats" that need to be inspected? For that matter, what about all those $20.00 plastic rafts that float our rivers?
  12. Yep, gonna try a day of fishing in the area, first nice day mid week.
  13. I use Dave's flexament. Coat the underside of the feather.
  14. Good looking stream Peter.
  15. Nobody has mentioned lake Newell about 10 or 15 KM south of Brooks. Good fishing for pike and walleye and swimming as well. Murray
  16. I like how you composed the picture.
  17. Man, look at that smile. I love it.
  18. And yet, Albertans are still flocking to BC to fish and spend wads of cash. I have decided not to fish in BC. Don't know how long but certainly for the foreseeable future anyway.
  19. Great idea Lornce. My waist pack doesn't have one, think I'll make one up.
  20. It was an exciting day all the way around. You should have seen the smiles and excitement on the 30 plus school kids. They learned a ton of environmental information. What constitutes a healthy environment for the fish, what other kinds of critters benefit from our waterways etc. We talked about why you don't just throw your apple core in the grass and why you should pick up the little bits of trash lying around. It's a great program and gets the kids very enthused. The school they go to is an inner city elementary school with a wide range of kids from all different backgrounds. I was surprised at how many had never even seen a fish in its natural environment. I asked the lady from Fish and Wildlife how many Calgary area schools were involved in this, I think she said that 16 was the number. If any of the people from FFC are members of their school's Parent Council, I would encourage you to look into this program for your own schools.
  21. Yesterday, I was asked by my Daughter to come with their school group to release rainbow fingerlings that they had raised from eggs. Two of my Granddaughters were with the school and the third is not in school yet but came with us. My daughter was co ordinating between the Bow Habitat Station (who provided the eggs) and the school. The fish release went well with about 30 very enthusiastic school kids but what really made my day was the fact that I got to watch the faces of all three of my Grand Daughters catch their first fish! The youngest one was first and after she reeled it in, she wasn't interested any more. The middle one was super excited and caught a total of 10 trout in that 12 to 14 inch range. The oldest also caught one but had to go back with her group to discover" pond life". She would have stayed with me longer otherwise. I have wanted to introduce all three to fishing for a very long time. I'm pretty sure at least one of them will fish at any opportunity presented. All in all, it was my best day of fishing ever. And I never caught a fish!
  22. This evening,I stopped in at the Canadian Tire store on McLeod Trail and Southland Drive with the sole purpose of picking up a copy of the new fishing regulations. When I asked at the Sporting Goods desk, I was told that they would not give me a copy if I had not bought my new licence there. After a conversation with the manager I explained that because I was over 65 years of age that I was not required to buy a licence. I did end up with a copy but it took quite a conversation in order for them to hand me it. My question is, has anyone else had a hard time getting the regulations this year? How common is this? Is it even legal to deny somebody the fishing regulations? What are your thoughts?
  23. Mike, empty your in box, I just tried to send you a message but it says you can't receive any at this time.
