Please don't consider me any kind of expert but you got me thinking. What if you simply wrapped the hook shank with wire as you have in the pictures but used a full length of chenille extending over the front and rear but also over top of the wire wraps. Tie in the chenille front, back and center. Melt the tips of the chenille. Murray

Mike, over the years, we have had several Shelties. Think smaller Collie and you get the idea. They are very smart dogs as well as friendly, good with kids etc. the only negative thing I can come up with is that they shed hair a lot. It was only a problem when we had two at the same time. They are great dogs and we will probably have another one in the future. Murray

Through the course of my career, I've been fortunate enough to visit almost the entire country. One place I have always loved enough to consider it a possible future summer type of home is the Yukon. The rivers, streams and lakes are amazing and almost untouched.the fishing is incredible with your choice of Arctic Grayling,Lake Trout, trophy pike etc. the tricky part is being close to a major center with a Hospital. If I ever won the lottery, that is where I would spend my summers. Murray

Wayne, check out Surveyors Lake in southern B.C. A short distance from Fernie. The beach is great, I think all of your requirements are met and there are turtles in the lake that should keep the kids entertained and Bass that could keep you entertained. The campground gets very busy in the summer months though. Murray

A very good friend of mine spends the winter months in Southern California. He has used the magic jack for the last 3 years. I have personally talked to him via this connection. My observations are as follows. The quality of the call greatly depends on the Internet connection on the magic jack end. The calls have varied from excellent all the way through to unusable and everything in between. If magic jack was your only phone service, you might have issues with 911 calls. You can still dial but the 911 operator would have no visibility of your location. The cost cannot be beat and in my opinion, it works well for long distance calls but I would be hesitant to rely obit as my sole means of communications. These are just my thoughts on the magic jack and I'm sure others may have a different view. Murray

That's a great reminder Bcube, it wasn't so long ago we were talking about all those large Brown Trout dying from a fungus growth on them. I would like to add a note on personal safety. If you decide to hit the river, try going out with a buddy. The ice ledges are very treacherous. I seem to recall a gentleman fell in last year around this time of year and it cost him his life. Be ever so carefull. Murray

Lornce,you caused me to sit back and think about this. There are so many things that I am thankfull for. Last week I had a trip to Ottawa and had the opportunity to stop by war memorial located close to the Parliment Buildings. There was the grave of The Unknown Soldier at the foot of the memorial. I probably just stood there for a half an hour thinking of all the Unknown Soldiers that gave their lives to allow me and my family the freedoms and lifestyle that we enjoy today. I could go on for a long time about what I am thankfull for but I'll just list a couple of others. I am so thankfull for my three beautifully Granddaughters. I am thankfull to have been married to my best friend, my wife, for 40 years. I look forward to the next 40. I am thankful for the two happy and healthy kids, if you can call a 38 and 36 year old kids. Thanks for the opportunity to speak out. Murray

I couldn't even guess with the flow rate right now but in normal flows, it has taken me 2 1/2 hours to Policeman's Falts and another 5 or 6 to McKinnons Flats. I'm pretty sure you will find a couple of spots you want to stop and fish though. Murray

A couple of weeks ago, we fished a small lake west of Prince George. 6 people fishing and everyone caught lots of Brookies. The lowest number was 40, the highest number of the group was in that 60/70 fish range. All were caught on a red Doc Sprately. The fish ranged in size from 12 inches up to 16 inches. If they don't like red, try green or black. Murray

Dave Jensen, this is an excellant thought, I would also like to thank the moderators for the fine job that they do. I dont really have a handel on how much time they put in but I am gratefull for their efforts. It's not easy keeping everything civil with so many contributors. A thought occured to me as I saw this thread, as I read this I noticed there were over 300 views and only 8 replys. Why would that be?

Mike, I have two different trips north. Next Monday for two days and then on the long weekend. It will be difficult to get together next Monday or Tuesday because I'm in meetings all day. The long weekend would work best for me as we are seeing family. Do you still need any fly lines? I have an extra 6 wt. that I could donate. Murray

Peter, I understand your concern. Personally, I insert the thick end in the sock first. I suspect you might do the same. When removing the sections from the sock, I pull the sock down just enough to expose the tip of the top section. My concern is that it is easy to snag the thin piece at the end and breaking it. I've tried putting the tip section down so that the thin end is at the bottom of the sock but it is just as easy to snap the end that way as well. I guess what I'm really saying is, either way works for me, just be carefull with the tip section. Also, at the end of the day, don't get lazy and leave the rod assembled. I broke the tip off a very expensive rod by trying to put it in the cargo section of the motor home. Thought I was being smart untill I heard the snap. 9 ft. Rods don't fit in 8 ft. Wide cargo bins.
