  1. hey unless you really like that pattern, I recomend looking up the "hopper juan" it's similar to that one and I enjoyed tying it so much I tied about 6 doz of them in about a week. That's a nice looking hopper though, from an amateurs perspective (Me) I suggest tying in a little peice of yellow foam where you tied the legs in as an indicator, also, yellow or red antron yarn does the same thing. What is the name of this pattern, I'de like to tie a few myself, or maybe you could post the materials, thanks.
  2. I personally just upgraded to a sage launch rod from a cheapie. The 9' 5wt sounds like something you should consider because you mentioned the nymphing and dryfly thng. The rod is really really sensative, it's not something I'de consider to use for throwing streamers, but for nymphing and dries it's just an awesome rod to fish. The best part is, they discontinued the launch series at sage (now the vantage series) so the launch series is being cleared out, and you can get them online for less than 175 bucks even though they retailed for over 245 while they were in production.
  3. lol just noticed your signature canadensis hahaha that's awesome
  4. my phlueger trion 3/4 has a disc drag and there is nothing overkill about it, it can practically free spool on it's lightest setting, and you'de rip the fly line probably trying to take line on it's heaviest setting.
  5. I don't know much about this sort of thing, but with the weather I was kind of expecting an early hatch because they are partially based on water temperature, and it (the water) is definatly a few degrees warmer these last couple days and the trout have turned ON. I thought (after reading a few books) that the first hatches were gonna be bwo's and pmd's and today I saw what appeared to be a BWO hatch and the trout didn't seem to care (which I also read that they don't generally care)
  6. bust out the D-Link and do this. there should be a tiny little black reset button on your router. Unplug the router from all power sources and internet conections. when it is completely unplugged, depress the reset button for 15 long seconds. when you plug the router back in, it should be restored to default settings and there should no longer be a WEP code. To access the router from your computer once you plug it back in follow these steps 1. open internet explorer 2.copy and paste this http://192.168.0.1/ into the URL bar the default password is likely "admin" if you reset the router correctly. firstly though, attempt to log in without entering a password. once you have accesed the router, the first thing you should do is encrypt the network, the best password (because it will require 10 digits) is your cellphone number with area code because it's hard to forget lol this should work with your d-link router. If it does not help, then post the exact model name and stuff of your router and i'll look it up for you and figure it out.
  7. hey you just described me lol
  8. yah this is gonna be awesome, can't wait to get started.
  9. so is there any spots left or what's the deal?
  10. I once tied half a dozen hares ear nymphs using hair from my sisters dog. I think it must have been the oil in the dog hair, but the fish LOVED them on the crowsnest hahaha
  11. I spent 35 bucks on a tying kit of all the tools I need, plus a vice. I've spent about $2-300 probably on tying materials, and I have enough for zillions more flies. if you buy a pack of 50 hooks for 6.99 and 5 materials that'll run you probably 25 bucks. so lets break it down here a little Prince nymph 50 hooks 7.00 50 beads 7.00 peacock herl 2.00 Tinsel 1.50 brown biots 2.00 white biots 2.00 black thread 1.50 so that comes to a total of 23 bucks. keep in mind you're getting 50 flies, that retail for about 1-2 bucks each depending on where you're buying them. now take into consideration that if i want to make 50 copper johns, all i need to do is buy wire of any color for 2 bucks a pop, and scudback and there ya go. the startup is a little expensive, but considering in my fly cases that were usually sparse cause i was a cheap fly fisherman, is now full and i have well over 500 flies that i've tied myself since last october. Having said that in a local flyshop these sell for 2 bucks each so you're lookin at about 1 grand worth of flies that I have saved. so if you're tying to save cash it's totally possible, but if you are the guy who has a 1200 rod/reel setup, then you probably have more expensive tying gear and materials.
  12. I'm not 100% sure but I think calgary refrains from using salt as it gets to cold here for it to be effective, I'm pretty sure that's why we use gravel for traction instead of salt to melt the snow.
  13. Not sure if you'll like this, Fishing the Forestry Trunk Road, by Barry Mitchell It is kind of an instructional book about WHERE to fish and whatnot, but I'de say it's more than half little stories and stuff about those spots, it's a pretty interesting read and pretty funny during some of the stories, it's definitly a must read for any fly fisherman I think cause you can relate to 90% of the complaints he has lol
  14. what's wrong with TFO's this sounds like an inside joke thing, what's the deal lol? My TFO rod is awesome.
  15. y'know its a longshot, but maybe post a bunch of posters around your community for people to keep an eyeout for the backpack because hopefully it was useless to the punks who stole it. Maybe mention whoever stole it to keep the bloody camera and at least leave the backpack on your doorstep one night because alot of the stuff in there had sentimental value, and if they would be so kind as to leave the memory card as well. that's to freakin bad, Maybe it's time to start some blockwatch in some areas to help keep the prowlers out.
  16. also, I don't know how hell bent you are on a 3wt, if you plan on using it for the little mountain streams then might I suggest http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?...c=11504&hl= there is a 6'6" 2wt on there and they are awesome for little streams and at $75 it's a steal, leaving you more money to spend on a nice little 2/3wt reel.
  17. I also have te 7'6" 3wt 4pc and it's absolutely AMAZING, I highly recomend it, run you about 180 bucks, not including tube. But you also get a no questions asked lifetime guarantee with it, which means if your dog chews on it or you sit on it, it's free replacement.
  18. godaddy.com any questions you have will be answered there, they are the best domain name site, probably 2 bucks a year for a domain name but you can look yourself
  19. little FYI, not only is the bow a good place to fish around calgary, it is one the BEST places to fish on the entire planet. A very highly rated river system and arguably the best in the world.
  20. lol it was the first drift I've seen this year and I didn't know people started up this early, my brother in law and I floated for the first time mid january and it was -16 and fruitless, but fun none the less.
  21. did a little research for you, came up with this http://www.cultofmac.com/30-snow-leopard-d...ade-tiger/15160 it appears your suspicions are correct, there realy isn't any reason to spend the other 169 bucks unless you just enjoy falling victim to apples marketing ploys HAHA and you do get a few extras with the full package i guess, but you should be fine with the $30 upgrade disk
  22. Hey, on thursday at about 10 am i seen someone floating just past glenmore bridge, I'm assuming you pushed off at glenmore, was wondering if you had much luck, and where you floated too. Also just for all of the newbies here, I was wondering if you pros could fill in some info for the rest of us. How long is the float from glenmore to 22x, time and kilometers How long is the float from 22x to policemans How long is the float from policemans to mackinnon also, any word yet as to wether policemans is open up to mackinnon yet? I know there is a post regarding a similar topic but I'm not sure where it is, thanks alot guys.
  23. kids get their habbits from their parents, if you take your kids camping and fishing, they're going to learn to have appreciation for the outdoors. Growing up in a family of 5 kids, my parents took us out camping at least every other weekend in the summer, and now that we're all grown up, we all love camping and outdoorsy stuff. Though we also had video games to keep us busy alot of the time, I think if you find a family where the kids do nothing but play vids and goof around on computers is because the parents simply havn't taken the time (or weren't shown themselves) to show their kids the great outdoors and that no video game can equal the feeling of a fish on the line.
  24. http://www.flyshack.com/DisplayItem.aspx?ItemID=23643 i think that's what you're looking for, it's a pontoon boat, but it fits in a backpack made of aluminum so you can hike with it if you don't mind the extra 42 lbs on your back hahaha. it's just under 300 INCLUDING shipping
