  1. Well I am glad I can keep using my 5wt!! Thanks for the info!!
  2. Hey Guys, I am moving to Calgary in August and will be living downtown pretty close to the Bow. Last time I went through there a couple weeks ago the water looked pretty high through town. Is there any good access points that are worth going to that are downtown? Am I better off just driving South to the 22X? I don't want any of your secret spots though!! I am looking on Google Maps at the "Prince's Island Park" Anyone gone there at all? I am pretty close to that area. Anyways, I am pretty excited about moving to Calgary as it is a pretty sweet City with lots of fishing around the area. If anyone is willing to take out a Bow Newbie then give me a shout! I am going back to school (U of C) in the fall so would like to do as much fishing as possible in August. One more thing, I have a TFO 5wt and use that on the Crow and it works fine but these pictures I am seeing of the Bow Trout look like they might just laugh at me and break my rod! Should I be thinking about using my 8wt setup more often? Thanks guys!! Stephen
  3. I hope that he plays like he played in Vancouver before the "incident". He was a pretty good player. He still is not to bad but definitely not what he was from 2001 to 2004. In 2002-03 season he had 97 points! That is one less than Jarome last season. Look at his stats last year in Anahiem, he had a 40 point season (14 goals 26 assists). He had more points than all but 5 of the Flames last season, including Lombardi(36), Aucoin(35), Conroy(34), and Nolan(32). I think he will be a good addition to the lineup
  4. I got some and I really like it. It floats really well and casts very nicely. I don't even notice the slight zipping noise it creates when hauling. I do like the noise though when you shoot a bunch of line on a cast and it makes a nice purring sound haha It is really good for roll casting and line pickups because it seems like it barely touching the water and comes off really easily. It casts a little bit different than the Cortland I had before but once i figured it out I can lay it out longer and straighter now. My only drawback is that when I am dry fly fishing and the fish swirls at the fly and I set the hook and miss, the fly comes zipping back at me because there is no water surface friction to keep the line in the water lol I think that has more to do with me yanking to hard though haha
  5. Well maybe I'll look elsewhere then haha. My vest I have now only has a couple pockets and I don't fill them all up anyways, so I don't think the storage would be an issue. Thanks for the review! Very informative.
  6. I use a vest but have been looking at switching that up this year. I was in Wholesale today looking at the Fishpond Waterdance and Dragonfly fanny packs. They have like a neck strap thing to hang over your neck, does anyone actually use those? Do they serve a meaningful purpose? Also they are also called Lumbar packs so I assume you wear them in the back. Is that right? Also for anyone that uses a fanny pack, do you carry a net with you at all? I am thinking that I would have to lose the net if I went with the fanny pack. Thanks!
  7. The conclave was excellent as well as the dinner. Everyone who was involved did an awesome job!! I learned lots about making leaders, stream entomology and I learned how to spey cast I might have to get me a spey rod lol Thanks to everyone involved!
  8. A real fly shop in Prince George? What about Northern Troutfitters haha I went in there over the winter and the guys in there were useless. There is barely anything for rods in there and the guy gave me a 10 min rant on why he hated sharkskin fly line even though he had never cast it or felt it at all lol U ever fish the crooked river system up there?
  9. Oops! I voted in my pool but not for myself. I now know for next time i guess. Sorry!
  10. Anyone selling any Mac's??? I am looking for an older iBook or Macbook just for word stuff and maybe some music. Thanks! Stephen
  11. Buy a Mac and get the software called Parallels. It allows you to install any windows programs onto your mac and run them at the same time as the Mac software. Mac's run with Intel chips now so they can do anything a windows machine can through parallels. The extra money you spend at th beginning will make up for itself with no viruses and no problems down the road. Plus Future Shop has sales on various macs quite often. Mac Mac Mac!!
  12. So when I catch a sweet fish and take a picture to show people I can say: "See that pink thing in it's mouth?? I tied that fly! Booya!" Haha look at the fishes eye, he's like "WTF did I just eat?" hahaha
  13. Haha look at this sweet one he made with that technique
  14. I just got in to the Engineering program at U of C on Friday. I am pretty stoked for it It's for September start. I am going go for Civil Engineering :) :)
  15. Dr Bulltrout and I hit the crow today and it was a pretty sweet day. Out from about 8:30 till 3:30. DBT got I think 7 and I got 2 but it was a lot of fun. Here are some pics of the day. This last one was a monster rainbow that a hooked and DBT had to help me get it in and it wouldn't fit in his net. You can see in the pic he is holding the net and I am trying to grab the fish out for a glamour shot. Unfortunately we were kneeling in the water and kinda on the ice shelf that was behind us lol As DBT had his camera out and I had the fish held up the whole ice shelf broke off and we both fell in the water and the fish went flopping back in the water and DBT dropped his camera in the water haha His camera was waterproof though so we fished it out afterwards. The fish was around 22" to 24" and was just hanging out in the some shallow riffle areas. Biggest trout ever for me! Whoohoo!
  16. Harps you mentioned not being allowed to angle for the stocked carp? Does that include the ones in Henderson? Also I have seen them in golf ponds at Keho Golf Club. Look like they would be fun to catch!
  17. Went out to Oldman river on the 5th and caught a beauty of a rainbow trout! First fish of the year and biggest trout so far. You can still see the muddler in his mouth on one shot. Start to a good year!!
  18. Mine is to cast out my whole line on my 5wt TFO. I got a 100 foot tape measure for Xmas so that will help me I think my line is 105' plus a 8 foot leader hmmmm :)
  19. I'll be on the road to Edmonton on Friday then the road to Prince George on Saturday So neither for me :(
  20. Holy smokes CapeBSalar! Wow! Beauty of a fly! GGP's is pretty excellent as well!
  21. On the SA site it talkes about the friction on the guides, heres what it says: Q. This line has to wear out guides? A. The real question is - does the Sharkskin™ wear out guides more than a normal line? All lines wear out guides. In our standard laboratory tests we did not notice any wear on the guides. We expected wear to be less since it is the same material with less surface contact area. In fact, we have seen no wear even with about a million cycles on our durability testing equipment. We are continuing long term tests on guide wear of standard lines versus Sharkskin™ lines.
  22. Can you get a picture of that for us to see? Sounds pretty cool.
  23. I 2nd that motion! Anyone played Unreal Tournament 3 yet? Comes out for PS3 today
  24. Maybe instead of holographic tinsel use the stuff of your Xmas tree!!
  25. I am unfourtunately only discovered this recently but I am moving out at the end of December. Back down to Lethbridge and I'm sure Shaw Cable has the reigns held a bit tighten down there. Oh well
