  1. Check this link out Yellowstone Anglers It's by the same guys who did that 5 weight rod comparison last year. Lots of info on Montana Streams. Go watch River runs through it again haha Look for landmarks Kidding!
  2. Wow that is awesome. Not to be critical or anything but do flies like that work? I haven't been fly fishing for to long and don't know to much about the actual fishing part haha. Sorry no fly from me, stuff in transport still.
  3. Could you tie that pattern with a conehead weight or bead headed weight on the front? Is it still called the same thing? Small pike like these things to!
  4. No fly from me this time, all my tying stuff is packed away ready for the long haul to Lethbridge this weekend. Some nice flies though thats for sure!
  5. Happy B day! hope you had a good one
  6. haha I got my fly tying set in mid december and that was the first one I submitted to the site. woulda been way better on a curved hook lol
  7. Hey Pete, The college I work at bought a Sony HDR-HC5, it shoots in 1080i. Pretty sweet camera with all the bells and whistles. Haven't played with it too much but enough to review it. First off the HD is excellent and looks very crisp. There is an HDMI connector on it to plug direct into the TV. The LCD screen is big and is a touch screen which is suprisingly fun to use and accurate on your touches. There is a multitude of shooting modes, HD or not, photos, widescreen, etc so quite versitile. This one has a night vision mode which is really cool, kinda blair witch project feel about it haha There is on screen battery meter so you know how much time you have left shooting, or just in standby. It is a pretty long battery life, we'll see how long it lasts though. The photo feature is a 4 mega pix camera that shoots direct to memory stick duo. With the sony brand it will only take sony memory sticks. It shoots to HDV which I recommend over the newer hard drive and DVD ones, the tapes are more versitiles and capture almost better than the Hard drives do. Plus if you drop the camera you don't have to worry about your Hard drive being erased accidently. You also can create an archive with tapes. DVD's are very compressed and terrible for editing on the computer with. It has firewire and USB out to the computer and component, RCA cable and HDMI out to the TV. Overall the HD is nice but I couldn't really justify spending that much more for it. May as well get a high end DV camera and it should work well for you. If most of the video you are shooting will go onto the web it will get compressed down quite a bit anyway. Hope that helps! Any other questions? Try Cnet.com for camera reviews, they are pretty good about it.
  8. Harps, I'll probably be doing some contract work for the college in SL as well as some in Lethbridge. But I will be living in Lethbridge. Rent is going up to a ridiculous amount in Jan here in SL and the job is pretty boring so I am going to move back to Leth.
  9. I am going to be back in Lethbridge January I think so I can come anytime then!
  10. haha it sounds like there is goin to be a whole herd of us. Probably need to book a whole campground! We need to make sure there are a bunch of rivers around so we can spread out. Otherwise there will be 50 people in one run haha Anyway sounds like good fun no matter what!
  11. That sounds like a sweet idea. If I am in Lethbridge by then, which I am hoping, I should be able to come. Car pool up haha
  12. If we ever decide on a final product there is a good site that you can submit your images and they will make a shirt out of it. You can create a mini store of your own with custom logos all over everything. It's called CafePress.com anyone else heard of it? Go check it out. We could all be wearing T-Shirts on the river and drink coffee out of FFC mugs and then go do some posting with our FFC mousepad! CafePress.com
  13. Slave Lake is fuuuuuuuuun haha It is winter here and everything is about frozen up now. Went out on the weekend river pike fishing, couple hits but nothing landed. Had a bad case of the icy guides though. I practice casting in the gym of the college I work at. Yesterday I was casting pretty well, walked one out to 69 feet. Couldn't cast any further because the backcast hit the wall and the front cast hit the wall haha
  14. Mono for the legs? Would the fish be able to see it? I guess as long as the body isn't clear as well haha
  15. This is only a half order. I am on a diet It is only half order because it is on a size 14 and most patterns I saw call for 6 or 8. Half Order Club Sandwich Hook: Size 14 Thread: Orange Legs: Round Orange Body: Foam Indicator: More Foam
  16. Sorry I missed last contest. I am stoked to do this one though. Mmmmmm club sandwiches
  17. I found a good tutorial site that has lots of good pictures and detail. Check it out Here!
  18. Was looking around and found a picture of Calgary skyline. Incorperated it into a logo. I don't know what happened with that poll or not but here's my kick at the can.
  19. How far is that from the Carseland Weir? Is it a secret or am I allowed to ask how to get there Looks like a beauty spot on the river! I'll have to remember it for next season
  20. I had a lesson with the guy in the "Guy with a Hat" link, that is Paul Arden. Greatest caster ever. I didn't know how to double haul and he said oh try doing this and this with your arms and in 5 minutes i was double hauling!! He also showed me the snake cast and a bunch of other crazy ones that i couldn't even wrap my head around. He showed me a bit of the distance casting and it's all about timing and doing mega hauls where u end up balanced on your leading foot with rod hand stretched out in front and hauling hand stretched out behind. I am not very consistent with it and would like to get a lot better. It is pretty fun!
  21. I would love to go to a distance casting course. I know you don't really need to cast a long way most of the time but it sure is sweet when you can see the knot from your line to backing at your feet. I would also love to go out with someone very experienced and watch them read the water and select flies, methods, etc and learn a ton of info. Someone like Vic Bergeman on the Crowsnest.
  22. haha I love that glow! Anyway here is my entry: Black Aggravator Hook: Tiemco 200R size 10 Thread: Black 8/0 Tail: Black Marabou Ribbing: strand of flashabou and black CDC (I think that's what it is...) Body: Wrapped Black Craft Foam Thorax: Brown/Blue/Rust Dubbing Wing: Pheasant Tail Black Silly Legs and Copper Bead
  23. Before I enter I just want to clarify, would a zonker be an attractor nymph pattern or does that fall more in the pike flies catagory? What if it is tied on say size 10 or so? Thanks! Edit: Nevermind, it is a streamer. I am tying something else. Is it possible to delete this post?
  24. It was a lot of fun last year, I pretty much sucked at fly tying last year and still entered. I also like the bi weekly poll contests that DBT ran. There was the theme of Stoneflies or whatever and 15 people would enter a fly, no prizes just bragging rights. Lots of fun. I even almost won one week with a mosquito pattern! If we are having either of these contests i am in! :) PS I still suck at fly tying haha
  25. I haven't bought one yet, I am in Slave Lake right now so there isn't much option other than WalMart lol Hopefully I will be in Lethbridge soon to go to Micheals. Is it hard to make your own though? I am thinking of making it for the grandparents as well, so bigger is better probably. My dad's favourite pattern is a black ant so I guess one of those can go in there. Thanks!
