  1. The correct kind of glue that comes with the felt resole kits is called Barge cement and is available at Tandy Leather on Macleod trail or at MEC. It helps to have the surfaces as clean as possible, sand the soles if possible. I've resoled my own three times
  2. The main reason those people behave like that is they don't have the desire or the ability to fit in with nature and the landscape as it exists, more like an attitude of dominating it or beating it into submission with something motorized. They feel no real appreciation of or ties to the natural world, so in turn have no respect for it. That is why they crap anywhere, quad anywhere, light fires anywhere and everywhere, leaves beer cans everywhere and furthermore could care less what the rest of us think about them. What's worse, many of'em have children that are learning those same ignorant attitudes.
  3. A compilation of the very recent conditions on K country roads/creeks/lakes/parking lots showing what is and what is not accessible/hikeable including photos. Contributed by numerous members over the past few days. ( Sometimes it's handy to check different online forums.) http://www.clubtread.com/sforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=57141
  4. The Highwood went wild. Sentinel day use area gone as is road (Alf Skrastins photos) https://picasaweb.google.com/112757355578245802406/HighwoodFloodJune252013?authkey=Gv1sRgCMGixL7e0-2ckQE&gsessionid=LMG-epu8rPVuzl9INTbCyQ#
  5. 102 separate problems. It will be a long recovery in Kananaskis. http://www.albertaparks.ca/media/4089456/kananaskis_highways_and_roadways_damage_map.pdf http://gallery.mailchimp.com/6d85f5a88b9e2db3ad6136fc7/images/KC_Road_Status.jpg
  6. I do hope something gets figured out for launching boats. I'd rather not share my solo walking and wading experiences with every fisherman who normally sits in a boat. Or else I'll have to walk a lot further than usual. That always helps. A day of walking with a bit of fishing thrown in. haha. I doubt that will ever catch on.
  7. I might have thought up a bright side to this flooding. The section on east side of Bow north of Deerfoot trail at the south end below Cranston is getting developed for houses coming close to the river. This would ruin an otherwise pristine part of the river. l bet that is all underwater now. Would they be stupid enough to continue that development after this, I hope not. But if they do, somebody will still buy them so it seems.
  8. I guess Nature's hideaway campground will be washed out for the 3rd time. Seems kinda like living in a trailer in tornado alley in the USA. Keep rebuilding in the same spot and never learn.
  9. The Oldman is flowing at almost 900, same as High River and the town there is under water. I would think that the road through the Gap where Racehorse Creek meets Oldman will be washed out. It's not that far above the creek to start with. Maybe Racehorse Crk bridge will wash out too, then there's the little creeks/bridges like Vicary/Daisy/Dutch/Livingstone. Who knows how many might be gone. We'll know better by about Saturday I guess.
  10. Never. In my book fishing isn't dangerous/uncertain enough to warrant it. The drive to the river is more dangerous--- Assuming you're using it to call for help. And if for any other reason, why bother?
  11. The Garmin 62S that I have is good but sure sucks up the batteries. Nicads will only last about 12 hrs or so. Switched to rechargeables which isn't always that convenient.
  12. Tell her you didn't realize it was a keeper, and that you're mostly a catch and release type guy.
  13. I haven't caught one brown so far this year, which seems odd. But then again, I got skunked twice in a row, friday and sunday. If I keep that up I never will catch a brown on the Bow LOL.
  14. An odd combination I've had work a few times lately is a partridge and orange wet fly 18" behind a black woolly bugger. Most went for the wet fly.
  15. I got one stuck in my forehead one time too. Damn wind. That's when you really hope you flattened the barb down. Luckily I had.
  16. I liked Troutfitters and learned a lot from Mike on my many shopping trips there. It'll be great having a store up here again. Yayyyy!

    Pike

By coincidence I caught a pike last thursday in the Bow, about 24". I've only caught 3 in the Bow, all withing 100 yds of the same place. Upstream of that Lafarge cement plant at Glenmore where the river makes a bend by a gravel bar and duckpond. Slow water along there and using a wooly bugger. I was trying for trout (caught 1). They fight weird. They do a short sprint but not that much else compared to trout the same size.
  18. Out of interest, As I recall, that technique to move crystals back into the proper place in the inner ear was developed by a Lethbridge Physio called Tony Winder. I heard him interviewed on CBC about 10 yrs ago. It was new stuff back then, he was doing it by rotating and tilting the person's head in his hands. I guess he was onto something.
  19. I far prefer random camping, but then I don't have a trailer, or a tent, or a fire or a barbeque or a quad so I can sleep in my van, cook on my white gas stove on a gravel shoulder and leave no trace I random camped. Plus, I'm not choking on smoke from those who see a campfire as quintessential to the camping experience. And I manage without a picnic table too. I guess when you don't haver kids or a wife its easier to make do with fewer amenities. My favourite camping spots are gravel pits when I can find them. Way fewer mosquitoes and other campers. (Oops, now everyone will want to camp there! LOL)
  20. I fished Fording Rvr 2 or 3 times and I swear all the fish had gone somewhere else every time. Decent water, no sign of fish. I do much better on the other streams mentioned though. I thought the Bull was overrated but then that's just me.
  21. You can buy stainless steel sheet metal screws at Rona and they outlast the puny Simms ones for a lot less money.
  22. Back to the topic...I remember my first time out when I took up fly fishing, I was stoked too. And I also remember the 2nd, 3rd, fourth, fifth and 6th trips because stoked or not, I got skunked every time. This is the reality of starting out by yourself and learning the hard way without anyone else or a fishing forum. Very humbling. AFter 5 times skunked I was less stoked.
  23. I think that is the stuff coating the rocks on Waterton River on south side by the bridge at Palmer Ranch. There is some slow water there just upstream of the bridge and it gets like shag carpet on the rocks. I wonder what you do when you're fishing different rivers/streams on consecutive days and overnight isn't long enough for equipment to dry and you're camping. Make it stronger bleach mixture to wash it in?
  24. You buy the soles and glue at wholesale sports in one package, get the biggest they have to be sure. About $30 or so for the soles and glue. To get them done at Alpine shoe will be about $90 then. To do it yourself I made video this so I'd remember how to resole them forever. Did it several times with my own boots and worked well.
