  1. I was referring to more difficult gears, yes, but I'm able to do it with the same cadence.. as you suggested. If that makes sense.. @castuserraticus - Starting to notice that, ya.
  2. Funny! Been riding pretty consistently and noticing the legs are getting pretty solid again. A few of the hill climbs on the way home suck pretty bad.. but I've been consistently climbing the whole way without having to stop. Gradually being able to do it in higher gears too! AND NO GRIDLOCK TRAFFIC! That's the best part. Thinking it will be quite a big help when we do our trip up Barnaby Ridge later this month...
  3. Pretty cool!! http://www.wimp.com/humpbackwhale/
  4. I know it's not on your list Smitty, but I recently got the new Pentax Optio WG-1. Haven't really had a chance to put it through it's paces yet.. but it's got really great reviews so far! http://www.steves-digicams.com/news/just_p..._on_review.html
  5. You diehards are going to love this one!!! ..... http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=369870 *edit* That link was originally about a rumor that Ryan Smyth was being traded to Calgary - not Edmonton.
  6. .... Which made me think of doing a YouTube search.. where I found this:
  7. I've seen so many cool videos from people doing more 'extreme' sports with the GoPro HD cameras... like in this video (skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling - hmm, common theme there?): http://gopro.com/ Got me thinking how cool it would be to wear one while dry fly fishing a crazy hatch.. do any one you own one of these? Have you tried this? I think it'd be super cool! Although.. i'm sure many of you would be choked if a person didn't edit out every single piece of "background" evidence.. you know, because noone else fishes that spot on the lower Bow.. I think it'd be even more awesome on some of our mountain streams and lakes where the scenery is breathtaking..
  8. Looks like Regehr is going to Buffalo: http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=369789 Without knowing who the Flames are getting in return... as far as I can tell... Edmonton wins this trade! No more face plants into the end glass for Hemsky.
  9. Anyone got a URL for a live stream? Not on ATDHE.net tonight...
  10. I'm an Oilers fan dude! Pssft! But it's time a Canadian team brings the cup back.. As for Mason Raymond.. he's no actor. He's one of the few guys on BOTH teams who is playing good, clean, hard hockey.. no diving, and no dirty crap.
  11. I wonder if the same fan made a poem about Boychuk's hit on Raymond last night... somehow I doubt it.
  12. Ride home on Thursday sucked because I hadn't memorized the route and took a couple wrong turns that ended in a dead-end.. had to double back.. plus I went way farther north than I had to! I ended up taking ~1:15 to get home! Checked on Google Maps today and I added an extra ~5km on to my 13km commute home. DOH! Ride in this morning was quite a bit better.. hoping the ride home is similar. Although.. the ride home is a lot of uphill, just like I thought.
  13. Since we were doing such a good job of hijacking Rick's MEC thread.. figured we might as well start an actual Cycling thread. I was going to call it the "Cycling to Work" thread, but that's way too specific. As a new cycling commuter, I'd love to hear any suggestions you more experienced people have! Got your advice about the breathable clothes Rick. Yeah, would love to hear from you about how it goes when you get them and have used them for awhile. I found a pretty good website for cycling - bikecalgary.org - that seems to have a tonne of great information, so I'm starting to work my way through it. One of the suggestions I already received was to get a mirror so I can see what the traffic is doing behind me without having to swivel around and look. Just a little thing.. but makes so much sense! I'll have to look for one right away. Also, during the ride in today, I realized I'm definitely going to have to get a water bottle.. got pretty parched.
  14. Well... I made it this morning! 45 minutes for ~13km. Google Maps shows 3 different routes from home to my work.. the first is 11.9km, but VERY zig-zaggy. Decided on route #3, which is 13km, but a lot more straightforward, and probably 50% on bike paths. Actually got to cross the top of the Glenmore Dam.. I didn't even realize you could do that. Pretty cool! Seemed like quite a few downhills though.. not particularly looking forward to the ride home this aft! haha I need to get some proper clothing though.. it was a bit on the chilly side in shorts and two t-shirts this morning.. only 6C when I left. Got passed by a few, and they were all wearing spandex-looking pants and thin jackets. I'll get'r figured out eventually. Trailhead - That's awesome! I plan on doing the same. I'll have to get some tips from you for winter riding... Rick - Ouch! That sucks. Hopefully you heal up pretty quick!
  15. Just bought myself a used one of these: http://www.norco.com/bikes/urban/performance-urban/scene/ Can't wait to get riding back and forth to work again! I dropped a bunch of weight when I was riding ~4km each way when I worked downtown.. can't wait to see the results of ~12km each way!
