  1. I am proud and pleased to announce the addition of two new prostaffers to our contingent. http://www.amundson.ca/Prostaff/prostaff.html Jim Andre, of New Westminster(also known as "Jetboat Jim" anywhere in the Fraser River drainage)) Jim will be contributing his gear fishing expertise to product development in that area..... and probably a whole bunch of other stuff ! Tiana Nordstrom, of Calgary, AB. A well-known fly fisher and tier in the Calgary area("ladystrange" ring any bells?), she brings with her a multitude of product ideas and a unique point of view for research focus that will be invaluable in the development of new products. j
  2. I sent them an email telling them how pissed I was! j
  3. Manufacturers websites are great for "research", other than real life experience. The SA Streamer Express is HERE Last year they had profile info in pdf files that you could access. Line profiles and head weights are so important when trying to fine tune the performance of any rod. Beats hell out of going broke buying lines. j
  4. I don't think builders who sell on ebay are any different from guys that build everywhere. I've ordered custom rods several times to help me catch up with demands. But "Blooms" advice is spot on, for all intents and purposes custom rods do not have a warranty. Replacing a broken piece for a rod takes time, and that time is deducted from your use of it. Never mind the potential costs involved in shipping, rebuild, etc. Get one built to suit yourself, but treat it with respect and care, not like "just another rod with a lifetime warranty". j
  5. Read my post again. Nothing about split shot. Bead head sparse minnow patterns and long leaders. Once you learn about river hydraulics, you'll understand: It doesn't take a lot of weight, it takes a little bit in the right place. It's what we learn and adapt to on real rivers, sonny.
  6. Sounds similar to the 5/6 Lamiglas Maxwell taper that I have. Swear to gawd it's fibreglass, but it's graphite. It certainly is a "finesse rod". Slow and easy, it will cast a line all by itself. It's the only time I actually have rhythm !! j
  7. "There is no way sink tips and lead wrap can sink a lure like a jig head can. " That's why God invented long leaders and bead head flies. The floating line stays on top, the narrow diameter leader allows the weighted fly to go down without any line or sinktip being lifted by the faster flowing top water. There are other ways to get to the same place without gear chucking. Adapt. j
  8. It was listed under the past guests: http://www.askaboutflyfishing.com/speakers.../brian-chan.cfm j

  10. Bill Clinton is always praising Canada, he must have some hot chicks stashed somewhere "up here". I've often thought that disaster relief under the bureaucratic and useless umbrella of the United Nations should be separated and one country designated as the world-wide disaster coordinator. That nation would organize other nation's emergency response resources and "standby units" in every hemisphere would rotate annually. I am absolutely convinced that Canada would make one helluva "World Disaster Coordinator". j
  11. Has to be the same linkage on all eight models. If this happened to a domestic, it would be an excuse for another bailout. j
  12. Colts by 2......................................... touchdowns. j
  13. I think that's what the Chrysler thing is called. They have a huge list of stuff, including extras for even the hearing impaired. j
  14. My "Honey"(of 35 years) sprung for a new truck last week, to celebrate our anniversary. Shopped around and got the best deal at our Chrysler dealer on a new 2009 Ram 2500 4X4 LWB, Hemi. Took it for a drive and when I got out and started to walk to the showroom, my slightly gibbled up left leg started acting up and I had a pronounced limp. Sales guy asked if I was gimped up. I replied yeah, a bit. What happened, he asked. So I told him. He asked if I had a doctor that would sign a declaration to that affect, I said "sure". The end of this is that my doctor signed a Chrysler Canada form, affirming my disability, in return, Chrysler Canada supplies and installs running boards on my truck ($750 value) for absolutely NO CHARGE ! Thought I would pass this on for others, as almost all of the sales people I dealt with while shopping around, had no idea about this Chrysler Canada program. j
  15. I find that a good rubbing with alcohol(methyl or iso) on a clean, soft cloth, then sparse car wax on a cloth will bring the luster back. Any scuffs can sometimes be "repaired" with with super-fine cut polish, as well. j
  16. Ralf and I would like to thank all "da guys" from this forum and all the others who helped make our first FF Expo experience a great one. The insight, suggestions, and constructive critcisms of the Amundson products was invaluable to producing better "stuff" and changing some of the stuff to make it more applicable to your region. We both made multi-pages of notes for consideration. Amundson also "acquired" another pro-staffer while we were there,(TBA shortly), as well as lining up CDone(Colin) to spend some time demonstrating the Wind Warrior 1134 Trout Spey on the Bow . Special thanks to Tim and Brunsie for the effort and long hours to help put it all together. j
  17. So we fly in here today, from sunny(not kidding, "sunny") Hongcouver, for the FF Expo and what is THIS??? ICE FOG ???? Is this caused by your own little "greenhouse effect" or is it vehicle exhaust? j
  18. Among "da guys" that are attending this year is pro-staffer Ralf Kroning. http://amundson.ca/Prostaff/prostaff.html If you have any interest steelheading or spey fishing in the province of BC, this is a guy that could find steel in a Dixie cup. Brunsie will also be there, "bloom" coming in for the weekend from "the Hat" and if any of you would like to pick what's left of my brain about stillwaters of the Cariboo, I'm only too happy to share. Stop by the GLoomis booth and say "Hi" to my bud, Bruce Kruk, too, he can give the "inside" on the Columbia River fishery. j
  19. 30% of single family homes are vacant and rentable in Veags. j
  20. You want to see power casting, track down Bruce Kruk in the GLoomis booth. j
  21. So, in 90 minutes they covered 3 pages of questions for Brian. Had at least 6 pages left!! So, he is invited back on Feb 3rd, 7:00 PM MST. j

  23. I am a strong advocate of matching lines, not just to rods but also to casting styles. Not only for spey, but also to single-hand. Only makes sense to coordinate all 3 aspects of a cast. Single: SA Single-hand Sharkskin(various WF configurations, Trout Taper, Steelhead Taper and Magnum) Jim Teeny Invisitip for sight fishing the shoals Spey: Airflo Compact SA Skagit Partridge Ian Gordon Shorthead j
