Invermere, the legs are Sili Legs in a Pumpkin/Black Flake, the dubbing is my own concoction of Hareline yellow and orange with some natural Hare's ear and tan Hare-Tron mixed in a coffee grinder. I had been using a commercial blend (but cannot remember what it was) while tying some stonefly nymphs last year, and ran out mid way through a batch so I decided to make my own dubbing. Basically I threw a bunch of dubbing into a grinder and came up with a similar mix and finished the nymphs. I mixed so much, I've been using it ever since for most of my stone patterns.

Thanks guys, never used the Etha wing material myself but it's on my list of things to try this winter. Silver Doctor, that's a very nice Coachmen, I'll be doing some wets and Atlantic Salmon flies soon and may have some questions for you about married wings (you have some serious skills). Moved onto some Stimmies this week, almost done replenishing my dries so nymphs and wets will be up next.

So here we are, as the the weather turns, and our days on the river are replaced by days at the vice, I figured we could use a new thread about what we are all tying. I`m kicking off this year with dries (mostly because I can find saddles again at a reasonable price). And after a few dozen Adams, I`m onto some CDC Caddis (critics are encouraged). So, what are you tying?

In case any one else is in the market, Michael's is having a sale on Ott-lites this week. 40% off. http://weeklyad.michaels.com/stores/3912/departments/3

It really is only a matter of time before this affects the prices of all hackles and flies in general. Just came across this article on another forum but gives a good read on the whole situation. Lets all hope this fad passes soon.

I'm not sure what flies are available at Fishtales (or if you tie your own), but using one tied upside down can help. I usually tie a few like this for situations when I keep hooking the bottom.

One of my all time favorite flies (and very nicely tied SilverDoctor). The coachmen holds a lot of memories for me, my Grandfather when he was teaching me how to fly fish would always remark when fishing for cutties "give em' something with red, they love the red" and it was always the coachmen we went with (and it always produced a fish or two).

Like 420 said, they generally last a few fish, but if I catch a couple fish on the same fly I'm pretty happy. If I lose one biot I usually pull out the other and keep fishing it anyway. I doubt it really makes that much of a difference to the fish.

Damn nice ties everyone. I've been playing with some more stone variations... I think I now have enough to get me through forever.

Tube Fly Systems-a Discussion Of The Pros And Cons Of Each
jordo replied to Flytyer's topic in Fly Tying Bench
I picked up one of the Nano Tubeology kits at the show, it's my first tube system and although I only tied a couple dozen flies from the useful parts in the kit, I'll pick up more tubes and cones in the sizes/colors I think will work best (looking forward to chucking the new streamers this weekend to see how they do). The system works and the vice adapter is fairly stable. In retrospect though, I should have opted for individual packages of tubes and cones instead of the kit. -
I am running the Hardy Angel 2 with my Demon 6wt (9 & 1/2 footer) rod, and could not be happier. I tried to track down the demon reel when I bought the rod but no one had one in stock so I bought the Angel Reel instead. I love the Angel it purrs and spins like a well tuned safe, just damn pricey.

Thanks Max. There really are some awesome ties in this one and I'm quite surprised I won. Cheers. Jordie

I got stuck at home this evening, after browsing the web for a while I saw a nifty extended bead body stone pattern posted over at flytyingforum.com and took a crack at a Golden Stone version.

Another awesome vid Jay, you certainly find some of the most scenic spots to fish!

Sounds like a great idea, I'd be willing to kick in a dozen (I've got a new leech pattern that would be worth sharing). Just let me know where and when I need to send them.

On the bright side it's much easier to hide a bag of 5$ feathers than it is a new 500$ fly rod

No he wasn't but he's only 24 so who knows how this will play out. Shedding his contract was a good thing but some sort of long term prospects coming back our way would have been nice (especially with us also giving up Aullie). Anyway, with 3 forwards coming to Calgary, Sutter is going to have to do something once Conroy, Dawes and Moss get healthy. -

Boston's loving this deal, can't say I am... I expected a little more for Phaneuf. We get better in the short term, but long term this may really come back to bite us in the ass. -
