  1. Excellent tutorial Max, I'll be tying up a few of these for sure! Thanks
  2. Thanks Jay, another wicked vid as usual.
  3. Thanks Bezz, I just cut a small section of mono and tie in one of the ends near the eye of the hook. I wrap the thread over the mono down to the hook bend, measure out the loop and tie in the other side of the mono and wrap back up to the eye and super glue the whole mess together. Once it's dry then I tie the pattern over top. Drop me a PM if you need any further details about the pattern. Cheers.
  4. I think I've reached a point where I have more than enough flies but I keep tying anyway. Today I was augmenting the Caddis box, here are two of my favorites from a long day of tying. The Case Building Caddis; And the Caseless Caddis
  5. Nice collection of nymphs there Brad, out of curiosity, who makes the fly box? That slot system looks a hell of a lot better than the ones I've been using.
  6. Wow, those are some awesome ties, and the photos ain't bad either
  7. Awesome find, I had toyed with some ideas on how to adjust the hopper but nothing ever worked. I'll be trying this method out for sure. Thanks!
  8. Seems a lot of us started at Crappy tire; here's my list 1. Crappy Tire Shakespeare special...glass fiber, foam handle, cheap plastic reel (I think it was a 6 weight), I was ten and it seemed pretty awesome back then 2. Berkley something or other, it was a 9' 6 weight when I bought it but an unfortunate car door accident turned it into a 8'6" soon after. 3. Some rod I don't remember, all I remember is it was my first cork handle rod. 4. Dragonfly 9' 6wt 5. TFO Ti 9' 4 wt 6. TFO Ti 9' 6 wt 7. TFO Axiom 9' 5 wt 8. TFO Signature Series 7' 6" 3 wt 9. TFO Axiom 9' 8 wt 10. Currently under the Christmas Tree Hardy Demon 9' 6" 6 wt
  9. Thanks guys, the hackle is Hungarian Partridge (the father in law shot me a few this fall and I figured I'd better put them to use before he visits next week). I don't have a lot of experience fishing the wets, but I have a winter to read up, then again I tie better than I cast... maybe I can trade someone flies for some casting pointers
  10. I don't often tie wets but with all the crappy weather I've gotten bored tying the usual stuff and threw a few together. I like this one the best.
  11. Nice ties Flyon, like the colors in that clouser a lot. In regards to my last tie; Tungsten, the legs were pretty cheap (I cannot remember how much, but I found them in a discount bin at the Fish'n Hole). They only come in two colors that I could find (tan and olive). Thanks for the other comments guys, always appreciate the feedback. Cheers.
  12. Thanks Dennis, the mono is 20lb and yeah I add them to a lot of my hopper patterns. This is my synthetic hopper with dropper loop (although after some recent insight from Tungsten in regards to my Chernobyl hybrids; I'm looking at new ways to move the foam away from the gap).
  13. Nothing beats a new Humble vid to get through the crappiest of winter days. Thanks Jay!
  14. Nothing negative to say about tonight's game, a full 60 minute effort and a 5 to 0 win, it seems the Sutter system is catching on. 3 and 0 on this road trip and the best road record in the NHL, 3 points out of first place in the league with two games in hand and a game against the leader in the next few days... now if only we could find a way to beat Chicago I'd be happy
  15. Congrats to the winners, and nice job everyone that's some serious coin for a good cause!
  16. Thanks Tungsten, that makes so much sense, the foam body really does limit the gap and would explain the number of missed or poor hook-ups I had on similar patterns last year. Thanks!!!!
  17. Well it's only 7 months to June (almost) and I got to thinking about some new attractors to give a go when them stones start a hatching. The Chernobyl ant is one of my favorite patterns and with a few tweaks I'm hoping to enhance it's effectiveness without overly complicating it's design. This is probably not a new idea but I figure a little deer hair wing and hackle could only improve it's trout catching ability. Anyway here's my take on an already excellent pattern. Here's the recipe; Hook: TMC 2302 or similar Thread: 6/0 Dark Brown Overbody: Light brown and Dark brown foam sheets glued together. Underbody: Light brown dubbing with brown hackle palmered forward. Legs: Small Tan-Barred rubber legs (I prefer the smaller diameter as they give the greatest motion in the water). Wing: Deer or Elk hair. Indicator: Yellow foam.
  18. I think I need to learn to spin deer hair better, them mice work deadly!
  19. Thanks; to answer your questions the body material is Larva Lace, and both flies have some lead-free wire added for weight.
  20. I'd rather see us lose a game where we try (like tonight or against Columbus) rather than a win with a poor effort (like against Toronto). In the end it comes down to points but I sure would like some consistency from this team.
  21. I've been tying my worms on the Mustad 37160 with a slight bend to the left. It's worked for me, but after looking at the Daiichi 1870 I think a change may be in order.
  22. Thanks, there are a lot of awesome ties in this thread, and tiers on this forum. I'm glad I can add something to the mix and learn something as I go. My latest are some Caddis Larvae;
  23. Thanks, and yeah I typically have the worm as the top fly and like to swap out the droppers. I like to pre-tie several combinations for the droppers and swap out as needed. When it get's cold I have a real aversion to tying knots
  24. Lately I've been refilling the coffers with the standard nymphs, but I'm always tweaking patterns as I go along. Two of my favorites are the Acetate San Juan (with a mono dropper loop built in), I've tied some with chenille tails and some without, this one is the tailless version. And my take on a Kaufman Stone (this one is in amber). Edit: a little bit better photo of the stone.
