  1. I add a small shot for faster water. For shallow water, ~6' leader, big hopper, ~3' of tippet to second fly and 4" tippet to third small nymph. Try tying two half hitch knots after your clinch knot. Google it, it's called a riffle hitch. (Maxwell showed me all this) Makes the head of the flies ride really high in the water. Causes a nice wake.
  2. Streamers too...(tight to the bank in high water)
  3. When fishin cuttie streams, sz 14 dry and small nymph dropper. Deadly. Bow River usually three nymphs or hopper dropper. Beyaaaah!
  4. Has been asked before. Try the search function at the top of the page...
  5. Very nice work! Wonder if it was a barbless hook...
  6. IMO Westwinds, Fishtales and Hansens have the best flys and are the best shops in town. They should be able to help you with fly selection.
  7. Yes, Fishtales has em too.
  8. Cuttie fishing on one of the Oldman tribs...
  9. http://www.kaufmannsstreamborn.com/Catalog...ators/FLYFOMST/ Kind of a Stimulator/bitch. Super buggy, looks tasty!
  10. Casts and floats very well. Noise wan't an issue. My issue is that my 5wt line broke (cut) after my third time using it. The local rep wouldn't warranty it, and the shop offered little help. Replaced it with a Rio Gold from another shop. Very nice, (thanks Max! )
  11. Also you may want to rig up two steamers. (where permitted). Say a size 6 black clouser followed by an 8 white and green or whatevs. Let the fish decide which one they want...

  14. Loomis Metolius is a sweet rod and on sale at Cabela's for $289USD! (bought one in the US when on vacation in April) I have also casted both Sage FLi and VT2. They're very nice too...
  15. Hey Mark, I second the Fish Tales beginner tying course. I took the five week course in January, and I learned tons. I have also learned lots on Youtube and online tutorials. I would recommend the DynaKing Kingfisher vice or the the Kingfisher kit. The kit includes the Kingfisher vise, which is awesome. I got a Thompson for a gift and the jaws don't hold worth a darn after a month of tying. The Dynaking jaws are awesome. Also comes with Dr Slick tools a and some material to get you started tying some caddis flies. Here is the link http://www.dyna-king.com/flyvise_dtl.asp?i...v=0&pid=083 Also check out "Fly Tying Made Clear and Simple" by Skip Morris. Skip rules... Good luck!
  16. My bad, I forgot your car was stolen in this terrible city...

Not a pro by any means. I've been told when water conditions are low, use floating line and sink tip when the water is higher. I find bombing the banks from a drift boat with a sink tip to be very effective when the water is high and murky. You could also try dead drifting steamers when wading...
  19. Well done Max. Here's to a long spring/summer. Doesn't it suck in Calgary? Not...
  20. I own both, and they're both great but I think GPX is better bang for buck. SA claims that Sharkskin will last longer.
  21. I'm interested. I'm flexible with the times. Go Henderson! Spider by TKO...
