  1. But Jordan .... Isn't Calgary hyping the crap outta the EAST VILLAGE? Last I looked. It is on a flood plain. Don
  2. Uber... What is a high value recreational area? Don
  3. For those who Facebook. This is an flashback to Hitchcock movies. https://www.facebook.com/Break/videos/10154238499927792/ Don
  4. The solution is found near the city. Utilizing a mist net at the local landfill. Fire it over the crows/magpies/Ravens. When you have a goodly amount, walk a wide pad D-6 back and forth till mixed well. Repeat as needed. No bullets and disposal is easy. You're welcome! Don
  5. Crows and magpies are scarce in Rocky. They have been driven out by Ravens. Ravens are not native species but have moved from BC into Alberta over the past 50 years. Our songbirds are gone as well. Magpies and crows can be killed where ever access is available. Ravens were managed differently. Not sure what is legal now. One thing that works are raven traps. The waste dump west of Rocky feeds hundreds of Ravens thereby keeping them alive all winter allowing the to prey at will on songbirds. A friend just hated the damn things. A&W foil wrap in a raven beak was just close enough to short our downtown power lines regularly. Problem solved. A&W changed to a paper bag - now the Ravens don't get thinned out by Trans Alta power. Don
  6. For small streams - 6'0" two weight For mid-sized waters - 7'9" five weight For larger waters with a mix of flies 8'0" six weight. All bamboo. For throwing bass poppers 9'6" Orvis graphite Don
  7. Ah *hit Clive, you want a fix a hundred year old problem. I figure that that cowboy welfare bums have sucked about a 1,000,000,000 outta the tax payer at the rate of 100,000,000/year. And don't forget the irrigators who freely spen a billion here and there to benefit themselves and destroy our fishery. Those are sins ongoing. Let's get them fixed. Don
  8. Smithy, Your thought have already been put into action. Beaver, Ironside, Fiesta and Alford all were paid for in part, a large part by sportsmen. The failure of these lakes was allowing people who were incapable of managing them to control the stocking and management and finally, the Areation. The lesson learned, get the whole operation out of the hands of Govt. The Manitoba Parkland is about to fail. The biologist responsible was transferred to northern Manitoba. There is no way any Govt employee is supposed to have a success. During his absence, the remaining bios did sweet tweet about the trout fishing. When the successful bio. returned, he found lakes with perch and walleye. Was he pissed. You bet.he has one year before retirement and then it's back to crappy management. Don
  9. Trees - cut 'em down, burn 'em down or they die of old age and fall down. Whatever the method, they are going down. Don
  10. People group camped at Honeymoon last year. Don
  11. Mike, age or not, the Riffle Runner was used successfully on outboards to 50 hp. In my case, the big advantage, the whole thing got loaded onto or into the truck. I used it on a bunch of rivers. Don
  12. A Winchester Defender might just be the solution for dog attacks. Don
  13. Gals pal, For several years I used a Riffle Runner which was a poor man's jet system that bolted onto the cavation plate of a prop style outboard, My 9.9 was capable of 12 miles an hour upstream in the Bow. Used a 12' Harbourcraft boat. Don
  14. fish.. Got through your pastel feathers did I? Don
  15. Sell a couple of golf courses and build boat access. Don
  16. Guys, unlike the last 50 years of crapping on fisheries, the present Govt closed fisheries to protect trout and developed a Policy on Areation in less than 15 years ( only took weeks). Give 'em some slack. Least they are trying. And frankly I cannot for the life of me figure out why Outdoorsmen wish for a return of the last 50 years of wild things getting screwed. Don
  17. From what I heard, opposition to a surcharge on quads is lead by people from Eastern Alberta. Not sure why as so much of the land in Eastern Alberta are grazing leases. Also I learned that the Prov. Govt had increased the number of enforcement people by 10 in the Rocky area in the summer months. This is in addition to the increases of enforcement people in the County which is now 5 an increase of 500% over the past 15 years or so years. Don
  18. Lad, Always I hear about the few rotten apples spoil the barrel.cin my experience about 1/2 of the barrel is full of rotten apples. However, I spent 1/2 hour listening to a guy who organized and ran a program of trail repair and maintainence In the lands North of Burnstick Lake locally known as rig street road. $400,000 got some of the area repaired. He related that he would like to see a surcharge on OHV license of $60/year which would raise $7,000,000 for trail maintainence. He's outta money. The destruction continues. By the way, a trail I used to the Oldman for years now has holes deep enough that you can just barely see out of the windows of my pickup. I couldn't figure out why till I watched about twenty quadders ride through the holes. Each time they picked up a little mud, not a lot, but time after time till the hole is now over 3' deep. Rest assured that I picked up a little mud but not nearly the amount 60 trips those quads made while I was there. The difference is magnitude. Don
  19. Screw fair. When the actions of people destroy the place, banning is only the first step that should taken. All that crap we've been feed that people will always do the right thing is a heap big pile of CRAP! Unless and until we start to take responsibility for those not capable, we will continue to see our land destroyed. Don
  20. Lad, I'm willing to give up washing my truck in the river, mud bogging, running through muskeg till it's a bog, hill climbing which sets up erosion of the land i'm OK with banning my activity - are you OK with doing the same. Also I won't break my heart to give up leaving campfires burning when I leave, shooting fireworks most of the night, running off several thousand rounds of 9mm. Oh and throwing garbage all over the bush. Hot damn, I could ban a lot of things. Don
  21. Attended the presentation of "trails" in Rocky last night. From what I saw there were no OHV owners or organizations in attendance. The audience was mostly composed of hunter outfitters and horse clubs. The money for the construction is coming from a disaster insurance fund and is done this year. I asked where the OHV riders were while pointing out the audience probably represented 200 people and 30,000 quads go through Rocky on a single long weekend. Seemed like the program wasn't reaching the problem. It was obvious that the trail builders were in as much as possible keeping off lower reaches and protecting trout habitat. But their stance didn't effect some audience members who stated they were going to use the river as access. Don
  22. How in the hell did I hunt for 30 years without a quad? Those damn things are the reason a lot of us have given up hunting. I wish our new Govt success in the Castle and like many others after near 50 years of "getting consulted" we are well trained in not expecting much from Govt. Don
  23. Let us hope this bunch of elected people deliver better than the last bunch. Alberta's landscape can't afford another 50 years of lousy performance. Don
  24. If the energy east is built, where will the price be set from. The reason I ask is out gasoline prices are set in the Chicago Market. And whatever Alberta gasoline has do with Chicago baffles the crap putt me. However, if the selling prices are set FOB Cushing, the resultant pipeline tarrif to the east cost will erode the value immensely. Regards, Don
