  1. I registered a home built trailer in SK, had no VIN, MV gave me a sticker with a ID number on it to affix to the frame. Supposed to be permanent glue, but it wasn;t.
  2. Been using my own furled leaders for a few years now. Love them for dries - the suppleness handles the cross currents very well. tried them for nymphing, don't seem to sink as well - even the fluoro ones. The water resistance of all that braid I expect.
  3. Chance to get a afternoon fish on the Bow. Throw the gear in the truck, rod, reel, vest waders, flies. Drive 45mins. Whoops no boots. Crocs and Waders, not as good
  4. http://www.rioproducts.com/product.php?recKey=157 Yup McCune, O;Donnel, Ward
  5. Buy the licence at the RELM website, print it as a pdf file, saved to your machine, store a copy on your Blackberry, or home computer Print one on paper of course, so you dont need the backups, but they are safely stored. I havent checked if the CO will accept the electronic one if the paper one is not there. The bar codes etc are all there though.
  6. Anyone thrown this line on the Bow? The bumpf certainly makes me suspect that this could work nicely. http://www.youtube.com/rajeffsports#p/u/1/9uPJKOGqBcs

  9. Way to go Greg. Great shots, thanks for sharing.
  10. any chance it is the dread "frankenfish" June 2010 news item - http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Environment/20...2/14223606.html
  11. great shots as always Max. Keep em comin. I look forward to your posts.
  12. And now you are hooked. Congrats
  13. tried the prototypes when you were in Calgary for the clinics. very nice. I especially liked the 10.5' switch. Is it still a 7 wt? and what line do you suggest? Tom
  14. I also have been looking for a wp camera, read all the reviews etc. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Q209waterp...roup/page17.asp Based on those, the choice came down to Lumix TS2 released feb 2010 or the canon (way bulky) I bought the TS2 from London Drugs (they also have the Pentax W90 in stock) but hated it. Luckily LD has a 15 day return policy, and I used it. Went to look at the W90 today at LD, but noticed they have the W80 on sale at $249, and after seeing Max's shots, I bought it. Note that I have a good non waterproof digital, so the primary use will be as a fishing cam. Nice fish, Rickr
  15. DP review did a great job testing all the underwater camera's last year. Here is the link http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Q209waterp...roup/page17.asp That said, my research is that the new models have improved some of the issues, however, the Panasonic TS2 is still in the best rated category for picture quality, and waterproof ness
  16. Yesterday at FC, I was at a hole, and a guy started watching from behind. Turns out he was from Edmonton, and had never fished the Bow. I gave him a couple of pointers, and a couple of flies ( cuz all he had were some big dries). Said it was OK if he wanted to fish the hole ( he didn't have waders) and directed him to a spot about 100 ft down at the end of the hole. I was at the top. Up comes a fisherman, and it was obvious we were in his spot. Without a word, he started throwing BETWEEN us. No other fisheren in sight - 3/4 mile of good holes, but by jingy this was his spot. Not being confrontational, I just kept casting. I caught, he didn't - the gods are kind. Assholes exist.
  17. You might try using the GPS (gel spun polyethylene) thread. It has a much higher breaking point. It is quite slippery, and a little tougher to cut, but I found it waay easier to tie. Fish tales has the WAPSI 200 denier for big flies, but is BO on the 50 and 100. I found some 100 at Bass Pro a while ago. I think that Danville also has some, that is available on special order from Fishing Hole. A lot of tiers swear by it for spinning the deer hair, but I have switched entirely because even my ham fisted efforts are not breaking the thread. My only knocks on it are that it is hard to cut (use a slicing technique with the scissors) and that the 50 is too thin to build up a head on the fly. It also takes pen colours well, so I use mostly white and black. A touch pricier than the others, but in my mind, well worth it.
  18. done a lot of ice fishing in SK. Was out on Lake Dief for the rainbows, and my big (10in, 3hp) drill had big trouble after the second hole. Had sharpened the blades just prior to the trip. Tried a bunch of things before I thought to recheck the blades - totally dull. Apparently a lot of blowing sand gets trapped on the surface of that lake, and probably most lakes on the prairies, and wrecks havoc with blades. I was in 15ft of water, so I knew it wasn't bottom sludge. Carry extra blades.
  19. Thank you Brian. I had a great day at the clinic, and learned far more than I expected. Great group, and wow, some awesome casters. I think I fufilled my role as the water anchor for the group, but you know, even the anchor got picked up. Great teacher. Thanks to all the group I will be there next time as well.
  20. Thanks again Greg Sorry I had to leave before the pictures. Tom
  21. Thanks Greg for organizing this. It was great to meet such a group, and I picked up some good tips.
