  1. I have been very happy with the guiding of both Max and Greg (Toolman) Allard as well
  2. Thanks for the info folks. I will check these out. Right now I am in a quandry cuz its a 10 yr old vehicle, and the damage is all cosmetic, and the initial price from a body shop was north of 2k. The chief spousal unit is saying things like "spray it from a can and take me to Vegas for a week" Hard to argue with the logic - the Rav is in top shape mechanically, and we will probalbly keep it for at least another 5 yrs, so I doubt we would ever get the value from the proper fix. However, SU's are notorious for changing thier view.
  3. Thanks Simpson, Yes the paint is damaged - there is about a in patch that flaked right off - shiny metal showing. However, I will drop over to that shop and get a quote. I have no experience with shops in Calgary, so I appreciate any pointers and info. Tom
  4. OOoops my bad - backed out of the garage with the wife's 2002 Rav4 and caught the taillight assembly against the corner of the holiday trailer some IDIOT had left parked there (that would be me as well). After some delays, the used parts guys tell me they have the part waiting for me. Now I need someone to install it and correct the dings in the panel around it - not major but noticeable. I have been to a body shop before (not Calgary) and almost had to leave my first born there, but they settled for the left arm to the elbow. Anybody know of a reputable auto body guy to install, make beautiful and get me out of the doghouse? Thanks. tom
  5. RANT alert!! It is not that this is about significant or major transgressions, more just to get the issue off my chest, and allow me to focus on those things that matter. I was at Upper Kan yesterday, gorgeous day, perfect for a wildlife spotting foray. Drove to the South lot on the UK, wonderful views, truly perfect. A few fishers, wondered how they were doing. Then I noticed a young fella sitting in front of a fire pit – probably part of a group as there were about 3 rods standing against the table. Good, I thought, someone staying with the fire, instead of leaving it unattended. My perception of the scene changed when the fella went down to the high waterline, and grabbed a bunch of driftwood, dragged them back and proceeded to add the biggest to his fire. Ironically, my view of him was partly blocked by the “unlawful to gather or burn vegetation or deadfall” sign. What part of “PARK” do people not get. In a previous trip, I watched as a middle aged family group labored to get a large stump from the dam at the north lot into their truck, cuz “this would look nice in mom’s flowers” . Camping at Bear Creek PP near Kelowna recently, I spoke out to a 50yr old couple when they let their dog run to chase the geese – their angry reaction was “did I want my granddaughter to step in all the goose poop?” It’s a park people, and not your personal landscape/firewood supply, dog run. There, I feel better. Albeit still feel helpless.
  6. I tied some that look great to me - in the smaller hook sizes - red tinsel underneath clear medium liquid lace. Havent been out much yet to give them a good trial, but damn they look good to me.
  7. had the birmingham done in Nov. A couple of things First , and biggest, if you get the Birmingham, check with your surgeon as to the recovery protocol. Mine had only feather wieght bearing allowed for six weeks. Most surgeons go for full weight bearing after discharge with the full hip replacement option. Mine was a right hip, and the surgeon also prohibited driving for three months. These would have been good to know. Wouldnt have done anything different though. Biggest benefit is being able to sleep at nite. Also, I thought since I am in decent shape, and reasonably active, I figured that by just being active, I didnt need to do the pre op exercises as vigourously. WRONG. apparantly the process is to instill muscle memory, as well as flex and stretch, so that post op, the muscles know the drill. my 2 cents
  8. I get mine at Fish Tales - the Wapsi brand I use the 50 denier and the 200 denier they stock both, although only white in the 50. It takes a pen well, so I dont use the colored, although I have in the past had some ordered by the Fishin Hole. I have found some at Cabelas in the US, and have picked up the 100 denier size there. GSP is gel spun polyethelene, and is not waxed. Even in the 50 denier, it is practically unbreakable. Also tough to cut with scissors, I put tension on the thread, then slice with the scissor blade. I dont understand why anyone would use anything else, this stuff is the best.
  9. Ya, I bought a 5 lb cylinder for most of my fuel usage, but it is in the trailer. And when I scoot off for the day, and bring the ubiquitous Coleman, I end up using the green ones. The 10# one can be filled at most places - although the COOP has a minimum charge per cylinder - roughly equivalent to 20lbs of propane, so that is a bit of a tick off.
  10. Thanks for the info. I wanted to refill the small containers mainly from an environmental impact view - man there are a lot of empty 1lb cylinders in the dumps. When it wasn't easy, I essentially abandoned the idea. However, the sight of all those green cylinders still offends me.
  11. I bought one of those gadgets, but could never get it to work. Something to do with the new valves on the newer big tanks. To fill the little bottle, the unit needs to be inverted - the big tank on top, upside down. doing so has the effect of closing the valve mechanism of the big tank. The old tanks without the auto safety overfill device still work tho. If anyone has an easy work around for the new tanks, let me know. Thanks.
  12. Thanks Fishtales, and Tom for putting this on. Good seminar, picked up some very helpful tips and techniques. Well done folks. Tom
  13. Thanks Greg for organizing this. As always a lot of fun, great people, good weather. Regret not getting there earlier, but still was good. If earlier, would have liked to throw with some of those cannons on shore. Good to meet and put names and faces to some of the folks on this board. Tom

  15. I bought a new Chevy Avalanche And returned to the dealer yesterday Because I couldn't get the radio to work. The salesman explained that the radio was voice activated. 'Nelson,' the salesman said to the radio. The radio replied, 'Ricky or Willie?' 'Willie!' he continued and 'On The Road Again' Came from the speakers. Then he said, 'Ray Charles!', and in an instant ' Georgia On My Mind' replaced Willie Nelson. I drove away happy, and for the next few days, Every time I'd say, 'Beethoven,' I'd get beautiful classical music, and if I said, 'Beatles,' I'd get one of their awesome songs. Yesterday, some guy ran a red light And nearly creamed my new truck, But I swerved in time to avoid him. I yelled, 'Ass Hole!' Immediately the radio responded with, "Ladies and gentlemen, Michael Ignatieff Leader of the Federal Liberal Party" Damn, I love this truck...
