Especially if you go to the one in McKenzie.

Good thing we're all a trustworthy bunch eh?! God help you two SJW and BBT if your mums ever read this board. I think that'd be funnier than anything that's gone on here so far. Oh wait. Maybe not

Just to be clear....I was home on the night in question with these "women" (and I use the term loosely after what I read ) decided to be ignorant and crowd you out Here's what I've learned over 7 years of floating the river. It used to be a big river - plenty of room for all. Used to be. Now with the affordability and inherent popularity of pontoon boats, increased #'s of canoer's, kayakers and all sorts of pleasure rafters, it's become nothing shy of a gong show on the weekend (hence why I sit here and type instead of being out fishing). The last 2 or 3 years have seen us get into some situations where we're gonna piss somebody off by either crashing through their raft party or floating through someone's water to avoid another boat/canoe etc. We go out of our way to avoid getting in anyone's way or offending anyone, but sometimes just because of sheer traffic, currents, etc. it just happens. And we're always very apologetic and let someone know if we have no other choice but to take the course we are. That being said, I have absolutely no tolerance for someone who does not observe etiquette on the rivers now. You just can't afford not to have any. If I was fishing a run and somebody encroached on my space, I'd step back from the river, approach the person as if they didn't know what the "rules" were and explain it to them in a calm, mature manner. I'd tell them that they are free to fish the water I am when I leave and, in the meantime I'd appreciate if they would afford me the courtesy of having my space. Now...let's face it. Perfect world. I'm a woman....one of 2 things is gonna happen....they're either gonna back off and call me a bitch as they walk away or they're gonna call me a bitch to my face and tell me to eff off. Probably the latter. But, the way I see it there's no sense losing your cool and it always pays to give somebody the benefit of the doubt about their lack of knowledge and trying to educate them. If that fails (and it probably mostly will) then just walk away. I refuse to stoop to that level and turn my relaxation time into someting that's fraught with frustration and anger. If that's the case, I'd rather not be out there. Again, why I sit here now instead of being out there. Oh ya....I believe strongly in kharma

Got ours yesterday. Dave is very photogenic. Nice issue - well done all around. Really enjoyed Jim's piece.

Up until this year, our fishing on the Bow has been limited to strictly floating from point A to point B, with the day being long enough without stopping. Now with older children and less time restrictions on our schedules, we can finally start to stop while floating down and hit the productive runs and holes (and we have floated enough years that we know where they are, finally!). Mike and I have both done the walk and wade fishing (not a whole bunch), but have had limited success. So aside from a few questions, I'm hoping someone can offer up some advice. 1) Do you start at the top of the run and work your way down, or the other way around? 2) How many casts do you throw before you move onto another spot when nymphing? Thanks for any tips and advice!

This is a tough question to narrow down to just one thing, but let's give it a shot. Let's split it in 3 categories: Bow River fishing, cutthroat stream (freestone mountain stream) fishing and stillwater fishing. For me, I have 3 barriers - barriers that I don't think will make me a better angler, but will give me more confidence in my abilities as one. 1) Bow River fishing - to get past that 22 inch mark. I'm not all about the biggest fish (I've caught pretty little 14 inch brown trouts that I've been more proud of than a big bow), but that fish over 22 inches eludes me. I catch my fair share that size and I should probably be happy with that, but that 24 incher would make me REALLY happy. I live for the day I can put that picture on my desktop 2) Cutthroat stream fishing - to be able to target and catch bull trout. That's it. To be able to walk to a pool, swing a streamer and catch a big bully. I'm tired of catching them on 9 inch cutties 3) Stillwater - to be able to read water better. Learn more about thermalclines, feeding habits, fish lies, structure etc. My stillwater fishing experiences have been nothing more than pure speculation and a whole pile of luck (with the bonus of a fishing partner who has over 17 years experience doing it previously).

Nothing like a little Billy Squire in the background to turn you into an ass. Good one

Was wondering why the river was a bit off colour yesterday -
Here's my rule for everything: if you can't afford to replace it, don't leave it where it can be taken. We live in a city of over a million people. It isn't the Calgary of 10 years ago. Even for the convenience, I sure wouldn't pack my gear around.

Wow Birchy...you must have a good constitution to be up and around already! Glad it went well and you're back on your feet!

OK Birchy....that's the first one of your bad jokes I've laughed at. Very good. Nice to see you BTW

A successful rancher died and left everything to his devoted wife. She was a very good-looking woman and determined to keep the ranch, but knew very little about ranching, so she decided to place an ad in the newspaper for a ranch hand. Two cowboys applied for the job. One was gay and the other a drunk. She thought long and hard about it, and when no one else applied she decided to hire the gay guy, figuring it would be safer to have him around the house than the drunk. He proved to be a hard worker who put in long hours every day and knew a lot about ranching. For weeks, the two of them worked, and the ranch was doing very well. Then one day, the rancher's widow said to the hired hand, "You have done a really good job, and the ranch looks great. You should go into town and kick up your heels." The hired hand readily agreed and went into town one Saturday night. One o'clock came, however, and he didn't return. Two o'clock and no hired hand. Finally he returned around two-thirty, and upon entering the room, he found the rancher's widow sitting by the fireplace with a glass of wine, waiting for him. She quietly called him over to her. "Unbutton my blouse and take it off," she said. Trembling, he did as she directed. "Now take off my boots." He did as she asked, ever so slowly. "Now take off my socks." He removed each gently and placed them neatly by her boots. "Now take off my skirt." He slowly unbuttoned it, constantly watching her eyes in the fire light. "Now take off my bra." Again, with trembling hands, he did as he was told and dropped it to the floor. Then she looked at him and said, "If you ever wear my clothes into town again, you're fired."

You dipping into the painkillers a bit early there Birchy? This is good news though....something to do tonight after all!

Best wishes Birchy - I'll toast to a speedy recovery for you tonight! P.S. I have plenty of bad jokes if you want me to fill in for you

The woman I talked to said "they are seriously re-evaluating the situation and looking towards potentially opening it back up with fireban restrictions". So, in not so many words she said they are likely gonna open it back up soon. YA FREAKIN' HOOOOOOO!!!!!!
-
Small part of it is open again, but not the majority of it. I'm gonna make a call to SRD this morning - apparently the rain we're getting here did not make its way down there from what I've been told.
-
I dunno....doesn't it look a bit like a good video game to you guys?????

The guy is the master of the double haul - I'd love to be that good at that one day. Left and right handed casting - another gift. I only know of one other who can do it equally as well with both arms....I think Taco calls him crybaby

I LOVE those sturgeon pics....sturgeon rock....one day. Where'd ya catch them Clarki, on the Fraser? All these pics are so great - the colours on some of these fish are amazing. I'm not even paying attention to the size
-
that was just awesome. The guy makes it look effortless....barely moved a muscle. Wonder if he'd still make all those moves with a triple nymph rig setup attached. Betcha that was a 2 weight rod and a 6 weight line . Kidding....he's very gifted. I think that guy must be CHUCKNORRIS...he's so tough at casting he looks like a sissy. On our float yesterday, we watched some guy fishing dries off the bank that used the water to load his rod on the backcast, which looked strange for the first few casts but made sense after. I must say that his presentation was absolutely not lacking in length, accuracy or finesse, either.
