New To Calgary - First Trip Recommendations!
LynnF replied to hawkeye's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Ya....snow and sub zero temps at night in the mountains is a good bet. 10 - 15 degrees in October? I've had days cooking a turkey for Thanksgiving where I've experienced that, but I don't know if I'd count on those types of temps for that time of year. The weather here is anything but predictable and seasonal values mean nothing. Don't mean to rain on your camping trip, just want to make sure you know what you're in for. I guess if you are prepared for any and all scenarios you'll do just fine. We can have a fabulous fall here in Calgary, but it's usually pretty shortlived. If you want southern Alberta (which would be warmer than northern obviously), Livingstone Falls, Dutch Creek and Racehorse Creek off the Forestry Trunk Roads are good campsites (FYI, they just re-opened today apparently after a month-long closure due to extreme fire hazard). If you want something not way up in the mountains, then the campsite at Lundbreck falls in the Crowsnest Pass is nice. The Crow in the fall can be "cosmic" from what I've been told by an esteemed board member. Your opportunities really are endless if there are no closures. And you won't find crowding at that time of year to be an issue. Just gotta figure out if you wanna go north or south and fish rivers or lakes. -
I like Brownstone's idea too. See...I'm easy But if Dave's gonna go with a reel/fly pic, then the Islander reel is the one that HAS to be in the logo.

Hi Rick. How are you doing today? How's the fishing been lately? Done any good videos this week? How's that....feel better? And, no, I don't want any of your kids. I don't even want the ones I've got.

Forestry Campground Announcement ??
LynnF replied to dryfly's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
That just doesn't sound right to me. When Mike talked to that SRD guy he said (and the woman I talked to confirmed this) that they do numerous tests on the land etc. to determine the fire hazard and what actions should be taken. They still have had no precip since that time when the BIU was 135 and, even with overnight moisture, cooler night temps or whatever, there's just no way that this number could have come down enough to make it a safe area to be right now. I'd love to know how they arrived at this decision - and it really just can't be from pressure from the city. Imagine this - the forest goes up in flames, hundreds or thousands of people get trapped/injured or, God forbid, killed, and the answer was "well the city pressured us". I don't buy it. And I won't be going down there even if it is open. -
A thought on this outdated video which, at times, is actually quite funny (although not intended to be at the time I'm sure). If anyone made a video today branding a child predator as a homosexual the way they did in this video - numerous times - their ass would be grass. Very interesting how homosexuals were viewed/labelled back then - with the same disdain that child predators are today. And some 40 years later homosexuality has become an accepted way of life (depending who you talk to or what you believe I guess). http://video.sympatico.msn.com/v/en-ca/v.h...3549&fg=rss Oh ya....a tip from the video....watch out for strange men wanting to take you fishing

I can offer up some great suggestions but before I do, do you know what the weather is typically like in Calgary at that time of year both within the city and in the mountains (if that's where you're thinking of heading)? P.S. Welcome to Alberta -
Forestry Campground Announcement ??
LynnF replied to dryfly's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
As much as I would like to personally see this happen (for selfish reasons), I just can't bring myself to believe that they would open this back up for the long weekend when people are chomping at the bit to get there and therefore increasing the potential dangers. They've had no precip or moisture at all to warrant an opening....I'd be surprised as well and if they do, I'll love to hear the logic behind it. -
That sounds perfect Dave. Nice. Simple. Perfect.

Oh see....now in old folk language those jedi hoods would be called grim reaper hoods. Once again, scares off the poachers, great protection against wayward flies and also reminds you of yhow old you really are
-
Good to see fatherhood hasn't slowed ya down any
-
When I won, Dave sent me a PM (which goes to my email anyways) with a link to the discussion thread. Good thing - I was pretty busy that day and would have missed it!
-
Howdy! I love reading fishing reports and looking at pictures of big fish....so feel free to post those strictly for my benefit would ya?!

Got this email from Louise BOW BOTTOM TRAIL TO REOPEN MONDAY, AUGUST 27th, 2007 & CLOSURE OF TEMPORARY BOAT LAUNCH ACCESS VIA SUN VALLEY BOULEVARD Fish Creek Provincial Park would like to advise the local angling community of a return to normal Bow Bottom Trail Access to the Fish Creek Provincial Park Boat Launch on: MONDAY, AUGUST 27th, 2007. Previous access via Sun valley Boulevard around the south end of the Sikome Aquatic Facility will be closed. Previous arrangements regarding official permitted Shuttle and Guiding Access through locked gates will now resume. The return to normal boat launch access is the result of partial completion of the City of Calgary Pine Creek Sewage Line Project and completed upgrades for the Boat Launch Facility Area. These Boat Launch upgrades have included the installation of a double-wide launch, paved parking surface, enlarged/improved parking and traffic separation, educational signage, pathway development and washroom access. The Park would like to thank all users of the Boat Launch for their patience and understanding during this period. Additional Note: Continued work on the Pine Creek Sewage Line parallel to the Boat Launch will result in access through what is normally the exit to the boat launch. The normal entry south of this point will reopen once the sewage line installation is complete. The final element of the work will include installation of directional and regulatory signage this Fall. This work will not affect access to the boat launch. For more information contact Fish Creek Provincial Park at 297-5293. There actually used to be 2 women's groups. Back in my younger days when I didn't have much of a life otherwise, I ran both of them for a few years. The WFFAA (Women's Fly Fishing Assoc. of Alberta) was alot of fun - we had 50 members in Alberta - mostly Calgary but a few from up north and down south. It eventually dissolved due to lack of interest and a bunch of other things. The other group you're speaking of is Casting For Life - a retreat for breast cancer survivors. You can read more at castingforlife.com. Even though I'm no longer involved with it and it's completely changed hands from the original founders/directors, I still have a spot in my heart for it as I believe it to be a great cause. I'm glad they've found others to carry the torch and organize the main retreat each year. And even more grateful that the sponsorship continues because, by far, that was the hardest part of my job when I did it and probably still is. Oh ya....I'm not cliquey, I'm quite adventurous and I'm very social. However, I"m not single and that's probably why you won't find me on the river alone - I fish exclusively with my husband and my golden retriever. And I wouldn't trade it in for anything But on a board like this....being a single fly fisher chick would sure have its advantages. I'll leave it to you to find them -
Ooh Ooh!!! Fosheez means for sure....right?!

WHAT?????????????????????? Ya....I'm definitely 42. I didn't understand anything but the word STICKERS
-
Was down there today. Islander reels....25% off...mmmmmmm. Ross Reels at 40% off...there's some smokin' deal! I had to really hold myself back. But it was worth it just for the basics at 25% off. Guy at the FF desk at the back said everything in the store was 25% off.

That was just priceless....the music really did it for me. Great job u2...thanks for the chuckle!

You raise a good point. But a gramma who is still young enough to have her grandchild's aunt is still young by any standards Speaking of gramma....did I show you the latest pic of the little darling? No? Well allow me Boy I wish Clive was here to show me how to edit out red eyes. I'm useless with Photoshop. -
I think Taco could beat CHUCKNORRIS with 2 fingers in an arm wrestling match (and I only say that because I'm a scared of him beating me up next time I see him if I say otherwise ) BUT Can Taco sing better than The Hoff? I surely DO NOT THINK SO! God....I should be fishing today....

T-shirts, Hats, Stickers, Golf Shirts
LynnF replied to SanJuanWorm's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
I like Taco's idea about the Alberta fish - bull trout. I do, however, think that the hats should somewhere say flyfishcalgary.com. Maybe a big FFC on the front with a fish and then flyfishcalgary.com on the back by where the ponytail goes through the hat in smaller letters? I think any advertising for the site is a good thing Speaking of ponytails....are you gonna get the hats that have a hole in the back Dave? i.e. not the flexfit ones? -
