Forum Rules And Everything In Between
LynnF replied to SanJuanWorm's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Wow...go to Toronto for 3 days and look what I miss. Dear Moderator - you're on crack if you think the last one is a valid rule. Oops...I just talked about something illegal. Do I get a warning? Anyone remember the bulletin board BEFORE FFA? The magazine one? I learned my lesson there about all this junk. Until they made me a moderator. And then the power went to my head and I squashed a certain someone and took great pleasure in it cuz the jerk deserved it. Then it went away. Too bad.....much fun. Oh wait...I had a point. Good on ya Dave - moderating something like this is a full-time, thankless job for the most part. Do what you gotta do and to hell with the LoyalEddie's of the world -
Thanks very much guys. No cake and no fishing but a wonderful day nonetheless - steak included Oh ya Dave....add 14. You're my new favourite person now....congratulations.

Chad Kroeger's lambo rebuild/customization by a shop in Red Deer. Here's the link but if it doesn't work then go to www.fueldtv.ca. It's pretty neat watching if you've got some spare time....VERY cool car. The work the guys do is outstanding. Not understanding why he doesn't have a tranny cooler on his truck though when he's hauling large from province to province all the time. The delivery episode is funny - the guy in the back seat on power drinks. http://www.imediatv.ca/index.php?siteid=10...idechannel=true

Wholesale sells them - that's where Mike bought his.

I'd cook it the same way I cook halibut. Dredge in some ranch salad dressing or buttermilk and then roll around in some crushed kettle chips (like the sea salt and vinegar ones) and bake at 425 until done. Best way to eat white fish of any kind IMHO.
-
Very nice. Congratulations to you and the Mrs!
-
I'm not even gonna watch it. I already know better to wear my glasses at all times when fishing in a boat with Mike
-
awwwww...how neat! The summer of new fishing buddies - puppies are so cute!

I used to use it when I was on Atkins until I discovered Splenda. As far as I'm concerned Splenda is the greatest invention since sliced bread - I use it for everything. There is no aspartame and crap in it and it tastes like real sugar with no aftertaste, no side effects (for me arrhytmias that are caused by aspartame) and no calories. I'll even dip strawberries right into it - it's that good. Stevia is a plant extract and you will always have some sort of "plant" based aftertaste or hint to it. I know alot of people who use it when it can be cooked off and the taste diluted and not as a sweetener for things like tea/coffee/juices etc. just for that reason.

You're welcome BBT....I'm so shy about posting that type of stuff - glad you have the fortitude to do it for me. Dave's a liar - that's a trouser minnow. He's a Facebook phony.
-
As absolutely hilarilous as that is (thanks for the laugh!), no...I'm afraid it was not quite that interesting or comical. Had something to do with a Facebook picture of Dave's and an offhanded remark referring to said manhood.
-
I only know cuz he's told me. I have no personal knowledge otherwise. Dave's a pretty honest guy so I have to believe him.

Back to the original question: I'm with Dave...find new water - the fish aren't just in those "sweet spots" if you believe the stats. To me, this need to rambo-fish - the need to catch fish at all costs just doesn't make sense. Why get all uptight about boat(s) sitting in the prime lies? Why do that to your day? Move on past and the prime lies are now yours to have. Go out there and enjoy yourself and take the pressure off about being able to score the #'s in the "good holes". Or, head out earlier than 9:30 primetime launch for the guides - then you can have the river all to yourself. We do it all the time - on the river by 6:30 a.m....get the great water and we're off before the sweltering heat slows the fishing down. Win/Win. As for the etiquette thing - ignorance gets rewarded. We've met alot of different guides on the river, most of whom are very courteous and even very friendly. But there are a few that spoil it. Those ones get a word or two (or a rock if you're so inclined). There's absolutely no excuse for that, no matter what.

Only thing holding those up was Dave's big trouser trout.

Well...our home is finally complete again. The loss of Jessie remains in our hearts but we've made room for our 2 new pups. Samson came home on Friday and he and Jake have already turned into fast friends. They play well together and Jake has become his official big brother watching out for him. They're both a lot of work but it will pay off in the long run. I think, however, we may need a bigger boat LOL. Here's some pics of our 2 sweet pups.

Good job on getting some guys out there to enforce safety on the rivers with rafters but WTF with parents not putting life jackets on their kids?!!!! Some people are just too stupid to walk the face of this earth. http://calsun.canoe.ca/News/Alberta/2008/0...211851-sun.html

Fisherman Dies In The Queen Charlottes
LynnF replied to a topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
No kidding about those life jackets - even in calm water! What surprises me here is that there was no fish master out there (or none was mentioned). At the lodge we went to, anyone going out unguided had to wait until the fish master went out and had to stay in radio contact with him (i.e. where he was fishing, when he was going in, coming out etc.). That way if there was any trouble or any word of storms, the fish master would be able to round everyone up. Along the same lines, I'm not really sure how I feel about the fact that Mike and I (had we been unguided) would have been given free reign to take out our own boat despite our inexperience and despite the focus of the lodge on safety. Nothing would have been said other than "be in contact with the fish master and wear your life jackets". I would imagine this is pretty standard across all the lodges. I guess if you're an adult and you pay that kind of coin to go there, the lodge figures that there's really nothing they can do. And they can't, really, other than to give the safety talks and provide the life jackets and water conditions. Their hands must be tied when it comes to unguided customers - this is a tough area. This man was an experienced boater and still met an unfortunate fate. Imagine someone out there with no experience - I'm surprised these types of incidents don't happen more often to be honest. Very sad all around, no matter what. -
When I worked at my old job, Jim Dinning told me that he used to get his fish smoked through Billingsgate. If he liked it and was a faithful customer, I'm sure it's pretty good.

So...which lodge is at fault here - Langara or North Island? Or was the guy all on his own? It wasn't clear that he was a guest at a lodge (unless I'm missing something here as I read the article while on a conference call). After being out in 25 foot swells the last day we were there, I can certainly see how someone could get into serious trouble as this poor guy did. Sad. -
Hey BBT....Scrabulous on Facebook keeps me amused 8 hours a day LOL
-
If I saw that sitting there I would have totally jacked it. Call me pretentious...I don't care. I want one. Dear Santa......
-
We were in the Queen Charlotte Islands and let's just say that we didn't catch nearly as many fish as you, nor the size you caught, nor had the fabulous weather you did I love the colours of the fish you caught - that king is amazing.
-
That's bloody awesome Brian! Clearly you had better luck at catching big kings than we did - and much better weather - how the hell does that work?! At any rate, good job - those are some pretty impressive fish and some gorgeous pics. Sounds like the trip of a lifetime. And, actually, I think I may have heard you. Did you hear me....was only a few hundred kms away LOL

Saw Damien and gave him a big ol' punch in the arm for ya there! I fished with him one afternoon with the other lady on the trip who always asks for him and we had a blast. What a guy - superb guide and real nice person. We had a great trip - fishing was really really slow (has been so far this whole season) but we managed 75 pounds of salmon between us (me - 22 and 10 pound springs plus various snapper and cod, Mike twin 18's and a 9 pound spring, halibut and various snapper and cod again). He caught his first tyee only to have it swiped by the resident 1,500 pound sea lion "Sparky" who apparently gets more than his fair share of the fish caught there. Bugger. He got one of mine too. We were none too pleased - as are many of the guides and other guests there. Don't mind it so much when you're slaying the fish but when it's tough pickings then it's another story. Hope you're able to get up there this summer. I seriously can't recommend that lodge enough - spectacular. The location, facilities and staff are absolutely incredible. First class all the way - and I'm pretty particular about that kind of stuff. Hope you get to experience that - it's a real treat.

YAY!!!! Hope you "hooked" her - ain't nuthin' like fishing with your SO!!!
