Found out after the fact. Anglers have to be better at reading county maps before they leave the city. They are available online. Try ihunt app. No excuses #notmyproblem

Some hatch chasing trout slobs camped on our property and left a mess of human refuse and garbage. No wonder landowners are getting pissed off with actions like this. The Raven and North Raven are getting lots of pressure. This type of stuff pisses me off. I posted a picture of their rigs so if you know them better get them to clean their act up.https://www.dropbox.com/s/bzyifd5ze443ee6/551073839.jpg?dl=0

Gravel Pit Proposed Near Stauffer Creek
wingshooter replied to DonAndersen's topic in News Discussion and Current Issues
There is also an open house event put on by the proponent of the pit at the Butte Hall on June 23, 2014 from 4-6 PM, well before any brown drake hatches start. If we fill the hall with angry flyfishermen it might send a message. -

Nice to see somebody get off their computers and put some relevance to this thread. Taco you don't ride a high horse do ya. Refreshing to see.... -
If you fish the Red Deer River from the Dickson Dam to Tolman Bridge please help out with the Red Deer River Angler Survey. All that is required is a bit of your time after you get off the water to fill a short creel card highlighting your angling experience. This information will help fisheries managers set limits and regulations on this reach of the river. This project was started by local Fish and Game Clubs in Red Deer, Dickson and Drumheller. Please click on the attached link to get more information on the project and to access forms that can be filled out and emailed to the project address they can even be filled out and emailed on a smartphone. Or find one of 17 creel boxes at the more popular access points along the river. Thanks for helping out. http://db.tt/WpGXJ8Dw

The Lahontan Trout Story
wingshooter replied to jasonvilly's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
My avatar is a Pyrimid Lake trout and have fished it twice. Get a cheap flight to Reno and drive 45 min north east and try it for yourselves. I think they have a spring closure right now but they stack up in March which is the best time to fish them. I fished them in January and October and caught fish without a ladder if you find a spot that drops off fast enough (Spider Point). They have a replica of the world record in the Cabelas in Reno which is close to a Girard from the Koot. Super fun chasing these trout.... -
Clearwater is not an option upstream of 22 there are sweepers and log jams all over the place. Ram is also full of drops chutes and hairpin corners log jams and you name it. To pick the water conditions when the fishing is good and enough water to avoid the dangerous spots is key.The NSR has some nasty water you don't want to dump in and loose your gear, fishing is poor to boot from the daily fluctuations from the dam. It always takes longer than you think to make up time on a pontoon as they are pretty slow just ask the gentleman and his wife that we saved in the dark on the Red Deer. They had never been on a pontoon and better yet in the dark. She jumped in the drift boat and I rode her pontoon 1 hour to the take out, they were headed for disaster. Stick to small trout lakes and big rivers like the Bow to fish another day.

Humminbird Fishin Buddy

I have had the 140 for a few years now. It is kind of flakey when you power it up, it has troubles getting lock on bottom sometimes and I have to mess with the power button turning it on and off and mess with the battery connections. When it works it is easy to read and the side scan is cool in locating fish in the general area. It also eats batteries which could be minimized with rechargeables. It is super portable and seems to be out of the way while fishing. Got mine at Costco. -
2013 Regs For The Upper Red Deer River
wingshooter replied to hatman's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Now we need some no biased inventory of the impact on the invertebrates and a decent population estimate done using the reach upstream of Sundre as a control. No bioprostitutes making up what plains midstream wants to hear. If there damages let the hounds out and fine them dearly and do something positive with the money. -
Breeding Carp In Irrigation System
wingshooter replied to monger's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
These fish have arrived in the Red Deer system as far upstream now as the mouth of the Medicine River. In fact they have been found in breeding populations in Tindastoll Creek 15 km up the Medicine. It takes alot to kill them as they can almost live out of water. On the bright side pike would love them. -
Logging In Castle As Early As Next Week
wingshooter replied to seanbritt's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
10 years, 15 years or 20 years trees seem to grow back. Legislated forest regeneration for this area will ensure there will be trees to cut down in 90 years again or not. Incrimental growth for this area of the province will out do the high elevation white spruce and subalpine fir ecotype in the before mentioned picture....my bad. Lodgepole pine can grow 40 cm a year if the conditons allow if the range maggots (cows) don't browse them or get trampled by flower sniffers and OHV users. -

[/img] Heaven forbid it will look like this in 10 years, the fish will still be there, the wildlife will still be there. The city of Calgary looks so different than it did 20 years ago, oh no change will get us. Get over it! The landscape looked much different 100 years ago too do you think the settlers had a protest when the trees re-colonated the foothills and prairies? Go onto Glenbows archives and see what this area looked like back then to get some prospective. I will be pulling out huge bulls from the Castle as the rest of you bleeding hearts cry yourselves to sleep next summer. Just saying.................. -
I think some of you whom fit into the 7X crowd that brag about 40 fish days in the summer are more to blame than a few crazy ice fishermen. Nobody is free of blame I know I have had some hot fish not release so well after being pulled around the bay for 10 minutes. It is sure is easy to point fingers for some of us who know it all........

Srd To Close Stauffer Creek
wingshooter replied to DonAndersen's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Yep sure do but don't throw my empty cans in the river and use anglers for pilons. You also won't be seeing me ripping up and down over the redds because it is a nice warm day and I need to burn some gas or dragging my anchor through redds like I saw some fly anglers do in a jon boat in years past. Common sense is not that common anymore................ -
Srd To Close Stauffer Creek
wingshooter replied to DonAndersen's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
There is no shortage of suckers in the Red and seems to me that the goldeye and sauger and walleye are doing great. All eat dry flies and take streamers so why do we need browns? I guess they are not as sexy as a brown trout safari sipping size 20's. Everybody has their vested interest. What the real problem is is those jerks in jet boats and punk kids drinking beer and dumping their empties in the river as evidence this past weekend below the Trenville Park. The bottom is littered with dead raft floaty things, beer bottles, cans and safeway bags. Now that is how we should have SRD controlling the masses not a few good ol boys taking a few rockies for the smoker. Apparently Vance is retiring so go bark up another tree or go pick garbage if you love our river. -
My favorite art is from local artist Karl Geist. He seems to capture the beauty of the fish because that is what it is all about, creation and the enjoyment of our natural surrounding. Carl Rungius has the best landscapes of the mountians and wildlife I have ever seen. Just a few of my favs. http://www.encore-editions.com/carl-rungiu...gius-mt-cascade

Time To Watch Out For Those Redds!!!
wingshooter replied to SilverDoctor's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
I saw some brookies spawning in many of the small creeks in the foothills. I wasn't fishing just observing. What I did observe is two guys in a (crestliner camo jet boat with a Merc) on the Red Deer dragging their anchor through an area where the whitefish and browns have been know to spawn. I even asked them if thay had seen the whitefish and they said they had, but continued to make 4 passes dragging their anchor through that area. There are signs right by the boat launch stating this fact. I guess some people are above respecting nature. I hope they have many fishless days in the future........... -
Sorry your info is false do as you wish @ your peril. I was only trying to warn others.

I wasn't attacking your post just adding some details of the float to watch out for. Drunk drivers also have the right to be on the road but it doesn't make it ok. Most jet boaters are pretty considerate but the few that look @ you as a pest they make that known to you. I have been told to get of their river as they flashed their beer @ me in not so nice terms. It is the bad eggs not the whole dozen that can be trouble. I have contacted the Feds several times for drinking but I can not confirm any arrests. As for launching at the Markerville Natural Area the signs are there but go missing when who ever cuts the fence. If someone steels the speed limit sign on the highway is that an excuse you use with the RCMP. Not all officers are aware of this issue yet. Attached is a link to the uses of a Natural Area and on highway vehilce use is not one of them. Regulations - Download Regulations Brochure (854 kb) Parks and protected areas regulations protect natural and cultural features; they also ensure that visitors to Alberta's parks and protected areas have an enjoyable stay. To view copies of legislation and regulations associated with parks and protected areas management, visit the Queen's Printer web site (catalogue search keywords "Provincial Parks Act", "Wilderness Areas, Ecological Reserves, Natural Areas and Heritage Rangelands Act" and "Willmore Wilderness Park Act"). Park Conservation Officers are Special Constables, which gives them the authority to enforce all regulations under the Provincial Parks Act, including issuing citations and penalties for offences. Specified Penalties for Offences Effective November 1, 2005, changes have been made to the specified penalties for offences under the Provincial Parks Act. Penalties range from $50 to $500 for more than 50 different infractions, including camping in non-designated areas, removing firewood from a park and pets off leash. Penalties for violations have remained unchanged since the mid-‘80s and were no longer seen as a deterrent. Most penalties are increasing to a more effective deterrent of $100, $150 and $250. Some examples include: Leaving a fire unattended increases from $50 to $250. Failing to extinguish a fire, coals, etc. before leaving increases from $50 to $250. Unauthorized operation of a motor vehicle/off-highway vehicle in a park/recreation area increases from $50 to $250.

Good luck on the float but be sure not to take it for granted that our drunk motorized jet terrorizers can see you in time. Pull over to the bank if you hear the motors reving a mile away. I live on the river and the last couple days they are trying to get in some fun before the water drops too much. Just for your information the "boat launch" @ Range Road 20 is not for use as the take out is on the Markerville Natural Area and there are to be no motorized vehicles past the barbed wire fence. Many people take this for granted and knowingly break the law which can yield them a $287 fine. I even know some guides use this launch which I would think they would know better. I also know the Conservation Officers are on the lookout for violators. Use white bow buggers as that will get their attention or green and yellow clousers. Tight lines!

To the pilots defence the Official NTS Map is wrong. Before we went in there in the late 90's I made sure to talk to the actual fisheries biologists that stocked the lake prior to leaving and he told me that. I had to strong arm the pilot to dropping us off @ the lower lake. Best bet is to follow the creek to it's source. I have to say that I would have been pissed if it happened to me.

Looking To Purchase A Wading Jacket
wingshooter replied to wayne's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
I would go with the STS or Guide from Patagonia. I have had 3 and wore then all out and they replaced them all, it wasn't because of lack of quality but they were abused prety much 365 day a year. Pretty good of them to replace it twice and I am still wearing the last one. I like the fit of the hood and huge chest pockets. -

Just a point of clarification on #17. It will be up to the winning bidder what kind of adventure they would like to go on.The quad trip is only for one angler unless they have their own quad. The river or lake trips I can take 2 anglers. Wade and walk 2 anglers. Adventure awaits! -
Inflatable Boat (zodiac Type)
wingshooter replied to craneguy's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
There are bow bags available which are out of the way and will hold most of all your gear. As for seats you can get a seat that attaches to the pontoon on the side and will not take up much room. The more clutter the harder it is to fish out of. I have a 15 footer with a 40 jet and find even that boat can get cluttered. I have a big cooler 150 L that I have a padded top for which is great for gear storage and a seat for a passenger which works great. I have a rowing frame and I tie most stuff to it to keep things in place. PM me if you want more details.
