  1. Hawgstopper What is the proper technique for removing barbed hooks from a fish?

    Northern Bc

You are going to have to figure out how to live with that for the rest of your life!
  3. So what are the rules? Can you find me any literature as to what the rules are? Is it all hearsay ? Pretty tough to find any info. So if there is no literature or signage why would they be ignorant? Bcube, call the police? They won't do anything. They have way more important things to do.
  4. No signage on the river or any literature as to EXACLTLY where the city limits are. Most that go up there are ignorant to the fact. Good luck getting anyone to do anything about it. PK
  5. I would error on the heavier side. Rescued a boat on the skeena around hazelton last year. Poor achor placement. The guys were lucky no damage to their boat, only their ego.
  6. Yes we all are users, and it is tough to change that. How about using some of the billions of dollars profit to help prevent this to happen. Common it can be prevented but costs would cut into profits. Rickr don't take it so personal, you are not responsible the company you work for IS. PK
  7. The times that they do break while fishing are largely do to nicks or dings in the rods from poor handling or poor casting ( flies hitting the rod ), not defects in the rod. Some rods are more prone to breaking than others. Typically the cheaper ones. PK
  8. The rod isn't broken, just the line guide.I have never sent a rod back because of broken line guides. It is a very easy fix that you can do by yourself. it won't be the last time one of your rods needs a little love. If you take it in to get fixed elsewhere it will probably cost the same or less than what TFO charged for a replacement piece. Yes TFO has a great program and we are fortunate that they are here in Calgary. Also unfortunate that pieroway hasn't helped out or given some suggestions. The whole lifetime warranty is an interesting thing.Unconditional warranty. Not many products in the world have that. Dont think there are many rods that are broken when actually fishing. PK

    My 2011

Those are some very stunning images. Probably the best photos I have seen on this site. Keep taking pics.
  10. Rising comes to end end? For what a minute? When I use my jet for dry fly fishing, very often my first fish is caught casting from the boat. PK
  11. Tend to agree. During their "guiding season" , not many guides fish because they are to busy. Therefor it has nothing to do with their own fishing experience but only that of their clients. All about the all oh mighty dollar. How many jets on the river? How many guides on the river? Mmmm? So let's try ban the small recreational group for our own selfish reasons. Shame on you. Seems kind of wrong to me. Maybe it's time the real jetboat rednecks from red deer, and all jet boat forums need a link to this discussion. Pretty big community that supports alot of businesses. Flyfishing isn't the only recreational sport that gives to the community. I think the guides have had it pretty easy here in comparison to most places. Any Tom, Dick, and Harry can buy a boat and call themselves a guide. Irrelevant to me weather they are any good or not cause its just another guide boat on the river that thinks its his river. Wtf? Regulations? Good luck, this issue has been going on for alot more years than many of you realize. PK

    Felt Alternative??

Studs suck and you won't get many invites in boats if that's what you wear! Only exception is the Thompson river (cleats needed)

    Afternoon March 20

Is it ok to land fish with gloves on? I thought that it wasn't good for the fish and took much needed slime off the fish.

Wow, some more beautiful pics. These are are taken by yourself? If so, what do you do with the fish while setting your camera up (like for the first photo). are you using a timer to take that first pic? Thanks
  15. Been doing it for approx 18 yrs. At first only practiced casting on the bow in anticipation of going steel heading. There were no smaller rods that matched the bow river sized fish at that time. I started actually spey fishing it when sage came out with the 6126. Not until the last 5-6 yrs ago did I start to see people doing it on a regular basis. Guys like toolman and Maxwell got into it. They posted lots on flyfishing Calgary and people followed. Now I see Spey casters every day I am out. Problem is most aren't swinging their flys, they are nymphing. Trying to learn how to cast with three flys, split shot and an indicater. PK
  16. The first pic is now my screen saver! Thanks
  17. Beautiful pics! Especially the first and third. Really shows that is a fish that you caught.
  18. Wondering why you think that they are white fish?
  19. Get in there and vote: should Enbridge be approved? http://www.cbc.ca/news/yourcommunity/2012/...e-approved.html I am all against it. PK
  20. Illegal guiding is not the general publics problem. Guides manage yourselves. Nothing worse than being confronted or accused of illegal guiding by a guide on a river. What, do they feel they are protecting the river? NO, they are protecting their best interests, of which they don't pay anything for themselves. So who is the thief? Who the f___ do they think they are?
  21. Guides on all rivers have it way to good. They get away with raping a public resource without putting anything back into the system. A product that they sell and dont have to pay anything for?????Can you imagine the bow without any guides. Or any other river for that matter. It would be great, take a lot of pressure off the rivers, and give some room at the put ins and take outs. Maybe all guides should pay a fee to use the public boat launches ( seem to be very crowded) . This whole illegal guiding thing is a crock of shiz. Who really cares? Only the guides, cause they feel that money is being stolen from them. Why is that something the government should enforce? Maybe all guide operations should be taxed differently. It is all take take attitude from the guiding community. How about some payback. And Riley, now that you are a guide up north you have given away all rights to fish legally with any friends up there. Which is huge. All brought on by the guides themselves because of the illegal guiding worries. Sorry if I pissed off all my guiding buddies. PK
  22. Slickshooter, pros outweigh the cons. You will get used to it.
