  1. that is a great read. Is it wrong to repost that every year?
  2. My Dad Is Gay Little David was in his 5th grade class when the teacher asked the children what their fathers did for a living. All the typical answers came up -- fireman, policeman, salesman, etc. David was being uncharacteristically quiet and so the teacher asked him about his father. 'My father's an exotic dancer in a gay bar and takes off all his clothes in front of other men. Sometimes, if the offer is really good, he'll go out to the alley with some guy and make love with him for money.' The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other children to work on some colouring, and took little David aside to ask him, 'Is that really true about your father?' 'No,' said David, 'He plays for the Edmonton Oilers but I was too embarrassed to say that in front of the other kids..'
  3. maybe he bought all the unscented ones?
  4. well done. those are some good colors. koolaid also has some good colors. set it the same way as a dye. PK
  5. whack the odd dollie (steelhead bycatch).I think they taste one of the best. kill it, do a good job cleaning it, and eat it right away. great snack
  6. riffle hitching stoneflies should work when adults are skittering on the surface laying eggs. I riffle hitch all my drys when skating for steelhead. caught lots of dollies on the skated dry on the skeena system.
  7. left hand cigarette = WEED
  8. it happens. the top portion of the feather splits the best because the stem is thinnest.yes soaking does help.
  9. i think peeling it is better. just grab a hunk of fibers close to the stem and pull. you get less of the stem with it, which makes it wrap better. same for ostrich, and most feathers. i used to soak pheasant tails before i split them. you will break less and less the more you do it. PK
  10. beautiful chromer. water looks pretty low up there.
  11. i guess those coastal cutts are good eating?

    good fish pics
  13. I beg to differ. I think spey casting with a single hand rod you can only single haul. if you were to haul when forming you "D" or "V" loop you will loose all control on your anchor which is of utmost importance. you can still form a "V" with a single hander just like you do when spey casting with a 2 hander. how do you think its done with a 2hander without hauling? Have a look at the video that headscan posted, there is only single hauling going on there. think about why you doulble haul in overhead casting (single hand rod). the flex in rod generates line speed so your line lays out nice and straight out behind you before you start you 2nd haul. completely different for spey casting. jayjj11 could you shed some light on who you are and your experiences. Seems to me your posts are very similar to bigbadbrents ( who has very limited experience in spey casting. maybe a year. max 2) I would love to see some reference. Your photo shows someone 2hand casting forming a "V". nothing to do with a double haul spey casting with a single hand rod. PK
  14. just got an email with the latest. http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/skeena/qws/ looks like they are aware of everyones concerns positives and negatives. now what they do could be another story. check it out PK
  15. hey there guys, jayjjones is just pointing out that a 9wt is to big for the bow. he is correct.Jayhad seems to have had the same feeling yet still had fun getting out there. a nine wt used to be the most common first spey rod for steelheaders (a little big for me personally). Most people cant afford to buy several spey rods so try to buy one that will cover all the bases. Personally 6,7,8 wts 12.5 ft - 14 ft speyrods are my choice for steel. I like to have a 9wt for the chrome dome chinooks. for the bow a 5,6 wt. Toolman, love to be able to catch as many fish as you? PK
  16. a 15' 10wt is way overkill for the bow and all steelhead rivers. a 10wt might be good for chinooks but that is it. I will swing streamers with a 12'6 - 6wt (there are even 5wts) on the bow, it is super efficient - no false casts - no need for room behind. lets say i am fishing with a 2 hander and you are fishing with a single hander and we are making 50 ft casts ( fishing casts on the bow). you will need to make 2-4 false casts and then lay it out, i will just lay it out. At the end of the day my fly will have been in the water much longer than yours and therefor covered way more water. also lets say there is a high bank, trees, or bushes behind you now and you still need to get it out 50 ft, chances are after a few flies lost in the bushes behind, you move on forgoing the productive water you werent able to properly fish . (yes some people are amazing roll casters but) with a 2 hander i dont have that problem and can fish anywhere there is productive water. still use a single for fishing streamers out of the boat doesnt work with a 2hander. a fad? they are around and have been for a long time ( much longer than 18 yrs) they will not replace the need for single handers but definately a great addition to the arsonal. give it a go, arent you ready for a new challenge after 18 yrs. isn't part of the fun learning something new
  17. you are also guilty: Of course rod mfg.'s try and sell their rods...duh...
  18. toolman , easy does it. you might have misunderstood. yes there are a lot of lines for switch rods, but you would think that if nymphing with a speyrod/switch rod was the "best" then they would come out with a line that they actually call a "nymphing" line and properly market it. for some reason I dont think that will ever happen. dont get so worked up its Xmas. PK
  19. dude is just trying to sell rods. why havent the line companies come up with a "nymphing line" spey rods. a good speycast with a single hand rod is very effective. PK
  20. Jez, I haven't seen you cast since spring.sounds like you have come a long way in a very short period.well done.
  21. Cant you nymph with a skagit line. do you really need a different line for nymphing with a spey rod. I dont know as I dont nymph with my spey rods. PK
  22. Please fill out this response form also: http://wlapwww.gov.bc.ca/ske/qws/feedback/ They are grouping all non bc canadians with non canadians in their proposals. Steelhead are both federally and provincially managed fish so some of your tax dollars are already spent there. All wrong. I dont mind paying more, being restricted some way but dont group me in with non resident with regards to this. PLEASE and THANKS in advance
  23. An email I got PLEASE READ THIS AND FILL OUT! Fellow Steelhead fishermen, Many of you are aware of the new Angling Management Plan (AMP) for the Skeena River steelhead fishery. Those of you that havn't heard of it need only to know that it ends the freedom of non-guided non-residents to fish when and where they want. Several groups of anglers and businessmen have been fighting this plan, but until now they have been doing it independently. Success in defeating the AMP depends on the ability of these groups to combine their voices and coordinate their efforts. There is now an on-line petition opposing the AMP that finally provides an opportunity for hundreds of anglers to send the same message. It can be found at www.opposeskeenaamp.com <http://www.opposeskeenaamp.com/>. Signing the petition will cost nothing, take a few seconds, and could save the Skeena fishery that we all love. The more names on the petition, the greater the effect. Pass this e-mail on. Spread the word. Every name counts. Next year, we can all spread out and find our favorite stretch of steelhead water, but for now, we need to work together. We can beat this thing. I hope you will help and sign this petition. all the best, Jim Vincent Thanks PK
