when fishing in dirt a good drift is crucial, try patterns that are a little more visible, i.e - a flashy worm and size your nymphs up a bit, if you normally fish 16's or 18's try going up to 14's or 12's.. don't be afraid to change up to flashy streamers, they always produced well for me during high/dirty water. probably the single most important - cover more water than you normally would, trout will use different lies during different conditions..but they won;t move far from their "home run". A common mistake is people will spoke fish off the banks/shore (normally clearer than farther out into the river) to wade out to "the run" .. slow down, look, listen & learn .. stay well back from the shore and watch the water you are about to fish from a fair distance, fish will sometimes cruise for surface feed or the clearer shallows in dirty water .. remember even though the river is "blown out" (which it ain;t yet) fish still have to eat .. gimmie a holler in a couple of weeks during runoff, we'll get out for the day..It'll change the way you look at high water ..

Fishing The Bow In The N.w.??
Brownstone replied to chiasson's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
opens June 1st .. not as productive as the lower Bow, but there are nice fish to be had for sure, just look around, you'll find the better runs .. Edworthy is a good place to start .. -
just a guess but olive and peach sound like a Cortland line.. pick it up in town outta some bargain bin .. ? Cortland pretty popular on the rock
-
I'd check some Asian markets downtown

used a roll cast ( as i do nymphing anyway) didn;t try casting right off the spool with the floating line .. once I hit the top of a run i'd just feed out the entire lenght of fly line and the surface tension between floating line and water strips the line off the reel like a regular centerpin set up..

...well worth the trip .. pound for pound the best !!

Dead Birds In Fort Mcmurray

conventional drilling can't be compare to what is happening up there..Ive been into new well completions for ten years and I can't describe the feeling I got when I went to Ft. McMurray and seen what they are doing up there.. -
WTF dude?...you were just over in Alberta on a fishing trip, want to keep people away from your water? I assume this is where you going with this....hmmm . . and to think I was soooo close to inviting to you to a private lake while you were in Olds since the streams were all mud.. glad I did'nt .. now .. sorry bassfishingbc .. he's not indicative of the attitudes on here.. he lives in BC but mooches info off here and comes here to fish..obviously its a one way street with him..

Heard this am on the radio about alot of dead,(even more sick, expected to die) migratory birds in Ft.McMurray from landing in one of the tailing ponds..can't seem to find a link yet but im sure it'll be on the news tonight .. as I understood one or more of the deterrant cannons failed yesterday or overnight allowing the birds to land in the toxic slough...

I bought a centerpin reel over the winter, set it up but only tried it a few times, I found it hard to get into something other than fly fishing..I even set it up with 15 meters of floating line so I could nymph the short stuff and fish a long drift when I made it to the head of the run.. you can get a super long drift for sure but like MTB said it's a solitary way to fish becasue you hog the whole run. you pretty much have to learn a totally different style of fishing to be productive with it..think about using a fly reeel with no drag and casting it like a spinning outfit .. tangles galore trying to learn to cast with straight mono thats why I rigged it up with a length of floating line. its different but my brief trials cured my centerpin itch for now.

Bow River Cleanup

I think the more individual events we have the better, I'd like to see a FFC effort later in the season like we did last year. I've been in contact with Rich (wongrs, the organiser last year) and he's going to forward his contact list and whatnot he used last year to help us along. -
LMAO.....

I've been thinking about taking this on as well Rick...have some good ideas to help increase interest and productivity as well, we'll talk .. -
good idea .. always great to discuss and educate, more and more of these discussion's arising every week..should almost start an abnormal trout thread ..

those fish seem to be well over age for WD, I'd probably guess deformities from bird of prey or predatory fish such as a pike if they are in there .. there are a few resident "pistol grip tail" rainbows just south of the city that I have caught personally and have heard reports or a few others, other than the bent tails they were very healthy looking fish..
-
MX1 .. this is a great place to get info and learn for sure, be aware tho, tales of a big fish are sometimes best kept to yourself without pics, sometimes even with pics .. nothing to prove to anybody but yourself anyway right...
