  1. Seems some snow fence and signage would cover the liability? Some cost involved but a bit of funding and volunteers would cover it.
  2. Lornce, tell us more about that variant. Ants and Tricos? Looks deadly. All the good stuff from a usual, h&l and renagade.
  3. I tries tunnels this year. Gives a good head start if you so t have the green house. I'll probably try to extend tomatoes in them this fall. Greens are done and too late to start more, but tunnels would be good for a late summer crop (shade, then later plastic). Any tips for getting tomatoes off earlier? The poundage of green fruit I have composted far exceeds the ripe. I always have big healthy plants, but fruiting is too late. Also, anyone doing haskups/honey berries? I'd like to try some before I plant. The amount of fruit my household goes through is absurd. Some berries would help (strawberries on pallet beds next year).
  4. My oldest has a brain condition. Hydrocephalus. She is well, thankfully, but I know there is something about brain conditions that puts fear in you like nothing else. It will always be there, and is life changing. Hang in there, but know it is doable. You'll get there. And, as I think Colin said, make sure you and the wife attend to yourselves as well. Burning out will not do your child any favours. Just a bit of time on the river will get you weeks ahead, mentally, and help you do what you need to do to get your family through this.
  5. I hope the new release is better than the old one. It seems all the best fishing falls on the edges of each map, or worse the corners. I spent last weekend constantly flipping pages back and forth. Sometimes roads or creeks disappear between pages!
  6. Awesome work. I am interested, but struggling with the basic machining principals, so haven't taken that leap. I have made passable cap and ring reel seats, but the idea of multiple, large fitting parts is daunting.
  7. Black head? Then Franklin's gull.
  8. Keep it flexible at first. I.e. Easy to bail and get back. One catch with these carriers is how close they put their mouth to your ear.
  9. How do we bid, Rick? I went to the link, but didn't see anything.
  10. Faster, higher modulus rods will give higher line speed. If your casting is good and you can manage trajectory well, high line speed won't negatively impact your dry fly presentations. If your casting is not perfect, slower rods and line speed will result in fewer errors that lead to spooked risers. I'm with Toolman that tippet protection is not really a factor until you get smaller than 5x. Any differences between rod blanks can be easily managed with technique. Don't fish 5x with an eight weight, but any four or five wieght should be fine. Try some rods and pick something that you'll be excited to take out of the tube, every time. A few spooked fish either way won't impact the value of having a rod you love to use.
  11. Let's see some pics of your net build!
  12. Does this mean it needs more voting members, or more elected board members?
  13. All month, maybe!
  14. A correction on my recommendation: I meant Dewitt's as Murray mentioned above. Not DeWinton. Winchell is another similar spot further to the north west. I combined the two names, I think!
  15. Good to hear your back at it. As far as getting the kids into the sport: it starts early. Get them outside, exploring and discovering. Focus on the natural things that get them excited (eg. bugs, birds, etc.). Plet them guise the way for the most part. That lays the foundation for a lot of good things, fishing included.
  16. No. You can keep some. Check the 2015 regulations for details.
  17. DeWinton pond to the northwest would be a good option. Not sure on directions, but it is probably within an hour of town. Chain lakes to the south would be another good option. Just off highway 22. It is a bit further than you are looking for but it is a scenic drive. Both are stocked trout lakes and you'll stand a good chance at a bunch of pan sized fish.
  18. Maybe the White in AR?
  19. Alberta- That's good they have the power to stand their ground. I also don't envy them and was alluding to the poor funding wih my comments. Any insight into the other changes you mentioned? A few people mentioned other opportunities in that period? I feel like I'm out of the loop. Nov in AB doesn't have a lot of options. Given decent weather, I expect the remaining options to be a zoo.
  20. While a rest in the fall can't be a bad thing for the fishery, I doubt they have any significant evidence showing fall fishing effort effects recruitment of catchable browns in subsequent years. I expect our guiding industry will push back pretty hard on this.
  21. I jumped on a Lami blank for sale on this forum a few years back. 7' 6" 4wt. It is a great rod. Very slow but with a lot of deep down power. I had it in the gap on a windy day (i.e. hard to stand up some times) and was shocked how well it punched through the wind. In good conditions it is a pleasure to cast all day. I tried a butter stick at the show this year. Very sweet out to 40' or so, but it didn't seem to have the same type of power reserve as the Lami honey. It nice to see all the glass out there these days. Some is very reasonably priced as well. I have been tempted by some of the higher end hand rolled glass over the the years but will probably hold off. I might have to spend on a Morgan one of these days though.
  22. The traveler reel was good to see. A great idea well developed. If they get a decent drag knob with detents on there, they should do very well. The 3-tand reels were impressive as well. I was in the market for a modern, light, grey colored reel and checked a few out at the show. This one stood out in general (weight, design, quality, pedigree), but add the price into the equation and I can't imagine having gone home with anything else. The value is remarkable. There was also a wireless fish finder that works over smart phones or pads. Another Calgary company. Looked pretty slick, but not really something I need. Overall, my favorite part was seeing a couple local companies that are capitalizing on clever inventions and have got as far as development and marketing.
  23. Bead organizers for fly tying stuff and flies. Found at micheals and the like. Couldn't be more perfect for hooks, beads, flys etc. I love this thread. I'm cheap and a minor hoarder so nothing is more satisfying than repurposing. I've got lots more, just need to think about it a bit.
  24. Not sure what it is called. 24 st SW south into the north side of the park. There has been a few kicking around there. A great grey and a great horn as well.
  25. 24th St?
