  1. Lone, that sure beats the 10% you got the first time! Ever since you caught that sucker in the Crow & thought it was a bull trout, I've had to wonder. I can't believe you ate that thing.
  2. My very best fights strength wise have been big bulls, hands down. Never caught steelies, and the rb's I've got so far have been awesome, but the 24"+ rb's this year have been soft at ice-out. The bullies have got serious shoulders. I can anticipate the rb's having more fight as the sumer gets going though.
  3. You white folks talk funny.
  4. Dern near a foot a day I'd say. I think things there are gonna change real soon. GGP, you woulda loved it - I hope things went well today.
  5. I'm nothin' without the bacon flavor. Doesn't even matter what fly you use when you dip'em in bacon.
  6. Not bad considering I have no idea what I'm doing.
  7. Here's a few from today. 8 on, landed 4. Nice day out there. Not a bad way to spend a couple of hours in the afternoon. Hope you got a few Brownstone.
  8. SJW, nice the guide put you onto a few fish, & let you feel like you got to show him a thing or 2. 6lb Maxima? Wire SJW's? You gotta be nuts! Well, I bet Montana is a little different after a visit from SJW. Good on ya chum, glad you had a good time. Excellent pics, those fish are lovely. I wonder how your trip would have been if you only used the guide's 'suggested flies'.
  9. Guess you gotta buy the company!
  10. That comest with the next 'order'! The orders have to get pretty big to get the complimentary rod.
  11. Correct Monger.
  12. Too funny Lone, But sadly correct. Between almost drowning & busting my rod for me, & you almost having to poop into a bag for the rest of your life & donate a few bucks to the mounties we could have gone out & bought all new gear & stayed home & drank imported beer all day & hired in some entertainment to boot & still woulda spent less. Too funny, it makes for some good memories though, eh? Maybe next time we just watch fly fishing videos.
  13. You can always try what you do have under an indicator, or fish from the bottom-up until you find the fish. It can be a tough lake, but it can be a great lake too. Beware that it tends to go on & off too, so you might get action for an hour or 2 & nothing for an hour or 2 after that. But, have fun & follow all the advice in the above posts!
  14. Open a cold one, drink it fast, and then open another one. Then start imagining fighting a nice juicy trout in a sweet clear river, and doing that all day long in the sun. Then coming home and getting a nice treat from Mrs. rickr. By then you'll need another beer and will probably be smiling. Happy Father's Day.
  15. THe Highwood was pretty clear but high. I think it's less affected than other streams until you get downstream a ways to get more dirty. The K lakes were not clear, but you still have about 3 feet vis max. Unless you are on the winidward side of the lake (which can be aby side or all sides at times). I dunno, the fishing was still good but that was Sat, not today. Rain can make things mich different, but sometimes better. I wouldn't let rain stop me from going out, unless I just really didn't feel like it. Yeah Lone, despite some of our calamities, it was an excellent morning. It would have been good if you could'a stayed out all day for sure. We'll be going again soon enough I'd expect.
  16. I have found for that #18-20 Griffiths & #16-20 P-Adams work well. For sub-surface, chironomids (like black/red) have produced well. I don't doubt that pheasant tails would work well too. If subsurface, vary your depth until you find the fish. Dead presentation works well, but like Reg said, sometimes a twitch here & there will induce more action from the fish. Good luck & have fun!
  17. I really wanna target catching a Golden this year also. I am not however, interested in the all-day hike. I would definitely consider a heli-trip.
  18. I know what you mean Taco, but most places we fish are stocked (or were) with the species we angle for, whether Bulls, Browns (not native) Bows or Cutts. If they weren't, we'd all be whitefish specialists for the most part. Anyhow, that's why I thought that lakes for Brookies might be an option.
  19. Fished the Highwood on opening day & it was pretty nice. Got a couple nice bows, a couple cutts & some whities. Later in the day I went to Lower K & got 6 big bulls in an hour - then it turned right off. All in all quite a memorable day. The Cutty pic is kinda funny, I couldn't hold that little devil to save my life, so it's the only pic I got of him. Oh yeah, I also snapped my 4wt rod setting the hook on a stone fish. Thank the Lord for the lifetime warranty, and for having a backup rod.
  20. I think Brookies are a great fish, and of course, they are a trout (yaya, char). Maybe if they were only in some lakes it would satisfy poeple's wish to catch them, and satisfy the other side that doesn't want them in the rivers & cross-breeding or out-competing other trout etc. I often wonder why there is a 2 Brookie limit on some rivers & streams, when there is a 0 limit on other trout. It seems to indicate that it is desired to thin the population, but not remove it.
  21. Rickr, It's the way June is here, like it or lump it. I don't like it either, but Houston is a llllllooooonnnngggg way south of here! June can be nice here too, just often it can be like this. Hang in there, it'll be better before you know it. The good times are still just ahead.
  22. Yes, I specialize in catching the handicapped fish. You once you find what works for you, go with it. There are lots of Bulls in the Upper K missing either a pec fin or part of one of their gill plates.
  23. Have a good time, Bro. Good luck on the water.
  24. Darn you SJW, it's like you are omnipotent. Having fun down there yet?
  25. I wanna beat SJW at top poster while he's away in Montana this weekend. Anyone gonna take offense if I do this? BTW, I'm fishing a river tomorrow that's open as of 12am today, so I won't likely start until Sunday. I just wanna give SJW something to look forward to when he returns, and give him a new goal to shoot for. Waddya think Toolman? Max? I think he'd laugh his ample buns off. Hockey for 27 years, even TB doesn't buy that! Between you & me SJW, I hope this gave you a good laugh.
