  1. So I basically said the same thing as Hawg when this post first appeared. Fishpro replied and I believed him that the picture was not meant to provoke, so I removed my rant. I agree that the picture was poorly thought out, but as I said, I believe it is an honest mistake. A whole bunch of us here fish in the winter.I would love to say none of the fish I caught have hit the snow. That would be untrue however. We all try our best, I think, to handle fish the way we feel is correct. Sometimes we fail. Sometimes we take pictures of us failing without even knowing we are failing. There are people here that don't believe you should even take a picture of a fish because it takes too long. Who gets to make the decisions on this? The most sensitive? I'm asking because I truly do not know. After reading this board, I've learned to not let them hit the snow, try not to let them hit rocks, take pictures with them close to the water so if I drop them they won't get hurt. Never mind I've seen fish jump 3 ft out of the water. Am I being too careful? Maybe. But what the heck, better to error on the side of caution I guess.
  2. I have a Okuma SLV as well. I beat the crap out of it, and it still works great. Price is in your wheelhouse.
  3. Happy Birthday Clive!
  4. I liked her handling of the Doberman!
  5. Caramel, and ever so slightly undercooked. Mmmmmmmm.
  6. Chris, Not artistic but yummy, courtesy of my 11 yr old daughter. Lava Cake!!
  7. I guess it would depend on the arc of the parabola with which it fell Factors effecting this would be angle of incidence of the fish's path to the water (as the height from the water has been established by the 5'8" man and 5.5 ft ice shelf) , the velocity of the fish at release, and the abrasiveness of the surface the fish struck. Oh, and the # test of the tippet. So assuming the cut started with the maxima and was ripped off on impact with the bottom following rapid release, I could see how this injury could result. Or it could be an Osprey.
  8. No chance that being from a release. If the hit was large enough to tear off that chunk it would kill the fish.
  9. Now if I wanted to cast that with a regular single handed rod, would I need the lead eyes or not? I'm just asking. Nice job buddy!
  10. You'd be surprised how much force you can put on 3x. I ran out of 2 and 3 in the past couple of weeks and have been using 8# Flouro. Forgot that in the car and had to result to 4X yesterday. Had a big fish take me to my backing, but got it turned around and all the way back. Just try to avoid sudden load!
  11. Have a hard time conceiving of line do it, if it could my hands would be a battle zone. I've seen cuts from spiderwire get pretty bad, but cannot imagine mono doing it. Plus I think the "exit" wound would be cleaner?
  12. Hey Boys, Sure glad to hear you had fun and success! It is a real accomplishment to catch fish on this river first time out. Funny thing about "spots". I gave these guys a general area to fish, nothing very specific. Where they pulled the rainbow out of, I haven't actually fished before. So you guys did it on your own. Major congratulations. I'll take that beer anytime.
  13. After it was rolled around in the snow, and caught with a count down rapala. Through the ice perhaps? Whatever it was, ouch!
  14. Edited out my friend. I apologize.
  15. Oops
  16. Nice fish!
  17. BBB, I may write a book report on this when I'm done! Gus reminds me of my father, almost spookily so. A fishing prodigy not bound by convention or any specific technique.
  18. Brent gave me a book to read called The River Why. In the first couple of pages, there is the following paragraph which describes many on this board, yours truly included: "Consider, when even a small quantity of water is inserted in a human posterior, a dramatic purgation results. Mightn't it follow that the constant proximity of vast quantities of the same fluid to a man's anterior could effect a analogous purgation? Perhaps the physiological truth of the matter is my father's head-so long and relentlessly bombarded by trout waters-has been the unintentional victim of a cranial enema: his brains have been voided of everything unrelated to fish and fishing....." I showed it to my wife, she looked at me and said "yep." Thanks Brent. Think I'm gonna like this one!
  19. The jinx of the camera is over. Couple of really nice rainbows and a monster brown. Like the net, it enhances the success rate of the partner. Terry, my bet is you took that picture somewhere far south of here. Just checked the weather right now: +4, feels like +1. Sweet.
  20. Hey Dave, If you read my original post, you will notice I anticipated your reply and told myself to MAN UP, but without the caps. So you are too late.
  21. No worries. Camera is waterproof and shockproof.
  22. Pffft! I've hijacked my own threads before, probably more than once. Statistically speaking, it is inevitable that it will happen again. Today on the Bow was not very spring like. More like January like.
  23. I remember those days! Actually, I remember when I was the kid. Good job barnes! I'd say he'll remember it always, but tough to say for a 2 yr old. I will say you probably have him hooked!
  24. I hope you fall through the ice. I'll take pictures and laugh.
  25. So it seems I am getting a bit grumpy. OK, maybe more than a bit. I have one question: Where the @#$& is Spring? I am tired of wearing gloves. I am tired of wearing a toque (is that spelled correctly?). I am tired of wearing therms under my waders. I am really, really tired of snow. I know I should man up, being from Texas and all, but I've had it with being cold. The only saving grace is the fishing has been really good. Someone here has to have some pull. Bring in the warm weather please!! Edit: I just looked at the 10 day. All the way to 14 by Thursday. Better, I guess.
