Online Disclosure Of Fishing Holes

Golf has holes. -
Got my flyies today too. They actually put them in a small plastic fly box and threw in a few streamers. Sweet!

Wow, are you ever prejudiced! You like loons because they look good and have a nice voice. Cormorants are ugly and have the worst croaking sound I've ever heard. Pelicans are ugly too! Ospreys eat fish, does anyone shoot slingshots at them? Or is it somehow more noble if a bird eats fish by diving at them majestically from the sky? Bald Eagles eat fish, and are also scavengers. Don't hear anyone bad mouthing them. What about bears? Poor Cormorants and Pelicans. It ain't there fault they are ugly, and probably from America. Just teasing.

Mike, Now that's what I call out of the box thinking! Teach fishermen to golf and get 'em off the streams. All kidding aside, I bet Golf does account for some of the decrease in fishermen per capita. -

That's funny! Took me a minute to figure that one out. -

DBT, I know you fish down south a lot. Is that the first time you've run into toutists? While they may have read about the quality of the fishing from this site, I doubt rhat it was the only, or even primary, research tool they used. When I decided to go fly fishing in south texas, I googled "fly fishing souh texas" and was able to learn some pretty specific stuff that helped my fishing immensely. But I was going whether I got help on the web or not. I think it is a great thing that some scots used this website to enhance their experience. But I think its a stretch to believe this website brought them here. -

Hey Clive, What do you know? Why don't you go and write another book or something!! Mudflap, No disrespect at all intended, but I almost completely reject your argument. First of all, other than fish creek, most fishing spots are given in generalities, or outright deception. I've only been here for a year, and even I know when to keep my mouth shut about location. As to the get together down south, I know of at least one fishing club that has a fishout down south every year. Seems to be a few fish left down there. I have a question for you. If a group of people are passionate about an activity, why shouldn't we want to share it? I LOVE bringing new people into the sport. I can think of no better way to share my passion. If I have to walk a bit further to find fish, so freakin be it! In closing, I don't think you really have to worry about this International website brining in hordes of Euro's or Merkan's to ruin your spot. I think you may overestimate our influence. -
Bear Stearns And Zeitgeist

Taco, You, a smart ass? No way. I'm not in to conspiracy theories either, and this one is a doozy. But I gotta say, I can't seem to get it out of my head. I blame fisher26. I'd go litter the Crowsnest or Livingstone just to make him crazy, but it makes me crazy to so I can't do that. I'll think of something..... -
Well there ya go. Must be that the huge amount of bait fish (mullet, menhaden, shad, etc. etc.) makes it totally unnecessary for them to go after big stuff in saltwater. Either that or the gamefish do not school in shallow, clear water the same way as raised fish. A pelican weighs what, 10-15lb? A 24" sucker would weigh 5? Hard to imagine how long before said Pelican could fly again.....

Jackfish on a flyrod. Now THAT would be fun!

I don't know how many of you actually took the time out of your busy lives and actually watched the entire Zeitgeist movie, but I did (which is a sad, sad commentary on my life). Now it seems I can tie any world event back to the theory that the guys who run the Fed run the world. They basically just helped JP Morgan Chase buy Bear Stearns for basically nothing (260 million may sound like somehting, but its <10% of its market value). The puppet masters did it again (maybe?). So, I only have one thing to say: fisher26 GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD!!!!

Worst Tim Hortons In Calgary?

Don't get the cat, but knew you'd come through!! -
I should add that all the islands are totally different. Bonefish on Oahu doesn't mean bonefish in Maui, as Diesel said. I did a quick search, and here is a post from a guide in Maui this year: http://www.danblanton.com/viewarchive.php?.../arch200702.php

I lived in Honolulu for 3 yrs. I didn't fish at all, as I had other things on my mind. But my cousin moved there soon after I left and said the bonefish fishing was outrageous. Biggest average size of anywhere he's ever fished, and dude can flat out fish. He said noone targeted them. The locals left them alone because you cant eat them and the tourists all fished for Marlin. He said it was the most underlooked inshore fishery he had ever seen. As to gear, you need a reel that will handle saltwater and tropics line as was said above. If you really clean the reel you may get away with it, but the line is a must. I had nothing but problems with line meant for cold water. Way too limp and sticky when I tried to shoot (save the obvious comment)

Looks like a big, shallow lagoon. You would see the crocs from a long way off. Lots of time to get out of the way! Seriously, I've fished with them in the area before. Never had one do anything but open it's mouth if we got too close. Just keep an eye on them!

Hey Clive, What happened to Max, I thought he was the driver? Also, if you photoshop in the bank with a fish flopping on the dirt and rocks, we'd shut down the site with the number of hits!! -
Bob, I don't know exactly what the Pelican's and Cormorant's eat here. Back home, where there are millions of them, they eat relatively small stuff. In fact, we use both birds as indicators of where game fish will be. Not because they eat the game fish, but because they eat what the game fish eat. I know that Pelican's have big beaks, but I don't recall ever seeing one eat something very big. With Cormorant's, even smaller stuff. That said, they can certainly eat juvenile fish, and Cormorant's will go pretty deep to get at food. Pelican's not as much. But both swallow fish whole, so they couldn't eat anything very big. How big are the fish when stocked? As an aside, I've hooked a Pelican before. Them suckers fight good!
-
Al, Bring any tarpon eggs back? Those suckers will go into some pretty brackish water. Might want to drop a few in Outpost, you know, as an experiment. Just out of curiosity, I know someone already asked, but how good is the fishing from shore? I can bring my pontoon, but I have the wife and 3 kids to consider, and it would be nice to get them on a few.

Gravelman, I'm noting a bit of ambivalence in your feelings for Timmies. How do you really feel? -
Ed, Almost exactly 2 CAD dollars for 1 GBP, so $258.00 CAD

The wife said: "Sounds like fun" I'm in.

Most high priced waders are excellent. When you pay for quality, typically you get it. That does not mean that there are not less expensive options, which in some cases can be as good. If you know someone who has had a good experience with a less expensive option, it gives you a level of comfort if you choose to go with the less expensive option. Snowbee sounds like an option. I didn't see the prices, but I know Islandguy fishes a lot and I trust his opinion. The primary one being "they do not leak." I also think you would be hard pressed to find many on this forum (Max, LK2, toolman, BBB, and maybe a few others) who have fished around here than I have this winter. I also think you would have an even harder time finding someone more clumsy on the water! The waders I use are less expensive, I've beat them up, and they do not leak. In my best Forest Gump accent "that's all I have to say about that."

Oh Man, That Was A Rough Day.....
reevesr1 replied to Saltamontes's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Well, the good news is it's really cold this morning, so no fishing anyway. Great story, thanks for the early morning laughs. I think we've all had that day. I do have one question: How tall is your truck?? Tall enough to clear a 5 gallon water bottle apparently!! -
I have the waders Troutlover is talking about. Milano is the company. I think Hanson's is selling them for $239 if you say you heard about it on the board. They are breathable, built in belt, lined front pouch, inner zipper pouch. Very well constructed. I've used mine all winter, no leaks. I love them, they've replaced my Simms. 1 yr warranty.
