Toolman, Missinthebow, and myself met Bloom for our Bullshead trip we purchased during the streamwatch auction. We got a couple of days on the water. The fishing was good. No monsters, but several in the 18-20" range, with the biggest 20.5 I think. Those lake rainbows sure do pull hard, and are as healthy as they can be. Fishing aside, it was just a fantastic time with a great group of guys with plenty of fish, and a lot more laughs. My wallet is a bit lighter with the several bets I lost. Just as an aside, don't bet any of those guys unless you like giving money away for nothing. I was a bit out of my class, especially when the wind started to blow! Greg won biggest fish on Day 1, Brett won biggest on day 2, and Tim won most on day 2 (which didn't take a lot!). I won first person to fall in the lake. Didn't pay much. Here are a few shots. Tim and Brett have more I think. Tim, you did a fantastic job setting this up. Many, many thanks. And many thanks for the flies and box and thanks to Greg for the loop leader pouch! Can't wait to do it again. Oh, and where are all the trees? Tim with a Bullshead rainbow (a little murky for underwater, but we tried) On Golden Pond Chironomids anyone? Me releasing a fish: I have some more, but I have to get off the computer before my wife gets a bit annoyed with posting after a weekend of fishing! Maybe Tim or Brett will post a few. Used them lots in saltwater, but exclusively when fishing with bait. Their biggest claim to fame is it is almost impossible to gut hook fish with them. But with the hook back in on itself, it tends to grab the side of the mouth and rotate into place with tension, not a hookset. My dad used to say: If you are fishing for fun, use a circle hook. If you are fishing for food, use a treble. That said, with any type of artificial bait they don't seem to work as well, at least for me. It has something to do with the fact that the fish rejects the bait much faster than with a natural. I would assume the same would apply with any fly or streamer for that matter. May be worth a shot because if they did work, then they would help with keeping fish on after hookup, particularly with barbless hooks. The one thing I did not like about them was not setting the hook. Fishing looses a bit of its visceral appeal without the hookset.

Sure are getting fat aren't they? Nice fish Lawrence! I sure wish I had landed that one that got me deep into my backing. I may have given that 24 a run for it's money!

A few shots from today. Fished with Troutlover, got a little retribution. We both hooked big fish. I had one get me 75% through my backing, straight downstream in big current, no way to chase. I ended up just putting the brakes on and broke it off. Jared hooked a big one as well, two big head shakes and gone. Biggest one we landed was right at 20. After I caught this fish, we pondered if we had anything to "match the hatch." As it turns out, we did: Caught this guy literally right off the bank. Darkest rainbow I've ever caught: Probably the biggest of the day: Sure is easy to land them when the water is 4" deep on the bank! The river is a raging torrent of death right now. Sure is fun!

I know that feeling! Troutlover and I run into Monger quite often. We find the best move is to go somewhere else as every catchable fish has been caught! Nice picture of your son Sundance!

I think he hates everyone! It was an article written for the British on their proclivity to stereotype. I guess you could say their stereotype is to stereotype. Like most of you who travel a lot, I find most stereotypes garbage. Good people everywhere, stupid people everywhere. Most are good.

OTF7, Whatever you decide, I would highly recommend getting it, and anything else you may need, in Houston as opposed to here. You'll get way better prices there. Edit: Sorry Calgary Fly Shop Owners, but he'll buy lots of stuff here too!!
