The Flygirls First Bullies...(my Oldest Daughter)...
reevesr1 replied to beedhead's topic in Photo Posts
I have 3 kids. All of them were tossed up in the air as babies and toddlers, unnaturally putting their internal organs under tension and compression many times over. None of them died, but now that they are older, they can be a pain in the ass sometimes. Hope I didn't cause that. I catch rainbows. They jump in the air, sometimes they go vertical and twist around and stuff. Is that different from holding one vertical? Should I hold my rod down to stop them from jumping to save stress on their organs? Sorry for the sarcasm, but sometimes this crap just gets carried too far. I am no fish biologist, nor do I play one on TV, but I would bet the money in my wallet right now that Jeff did not damage a single fish when he held it. (Not that I have much money in my wallet, but if I did, I'd still bet it.) -
Great idea Osprey! Meet you there!!

Beedhead, Nice fish. Man, I'm getting tired of the rest of this garbage. Don't touch the gills, don't hold 'em by the belly, don't lay 'em on the grass, don't lay 'em on a rock, don't use a net, don't lay 'em on a net, don't lay 'em on a pontoon boat, don't land 'em by hand, don't use a big SJW. Blah, freakin' blah, freakin blah. Maybe we should just quit fishing. That way we'll never hurt the little darlings. I'm cutting off all my hooks as we speak. Edit: Jeff, don't let the BS stop you from posting. You want to take a pic, take as many as you want. You show your passion through your posts. That is worth 100X over the negativity that seems to get spawned far too often (which I admit to participating in from time to time). -
I'm sorry, did somebody say something? I think I must have dozed off there for a second.

Tried to go to my neighborhood run this morning only to find access to 194 Ave shut down for construction of the new Chaparral Valley subdivision and/or Blue Devil Golf Course. Crap!! Used to be 15 minutes door to fishing. Now much longer. And it doesn't look like they will restore access anytime soon. They are completely tearing up the road. May have to talk to Troutlover about clandestine entry points! Crap. Crap. Crap.

As one who has fished with a surf rod, I can attest to it's "fun-ness"! Don't limit yourself there young Brent!! But you are right about one thing, while I'm sure big Kings pull like all get out, and can have lots of current to use to their advantage, tuna are in a class by themselves as far as fight is concerned. They are basically solid muscle. Like comparing a trout to a bonefish. Both are really fun to catch, but no comparing the fight! That said, I sure wish I was going to Alaska to catch Salmon or South Carolina to catch tuna. Either one will do!!

I tie it from time to time, both with flies and in saltwater to let the lure or fly "swim" more naturally. The concept is certainly sound. That said, I gotta say I've never really noticed a difference in catch rates and always default back to the old clinch knot.

Alberta Energy Savings?

Isn't that the same as negative option billing? Ie, your cable company sends you an option to increase your plan, with a line in the text that says if you don't reply, they will switch you to the higher plan. That used to happen in the states, and it is now illegal. This refund check thing sounds like a variation on that theme. Illegal? Don't know. But again, it speaks directly to their unethical nature. I have no issue with the concept of locking in a rate. In fact, it's good business for them to market more aggressively when rates are high. That said, you can be aggressive (send out lots of people in this case) without being unethical. -
I looked through Taco's knots, and I don't see a simple loop. I did look and can't find it. Very easy to tie however. Step 1: Tie a simple overhand loop in the line about 6" from the end. Step 2: Slip the end of the line through the eye of the fly Step 3: Slip the end of the line through the loop tied in step 1 Step 3: Tie a overhand loop around the line in front of the original loop Step 4: Lubricate and cinch down. Simple. Wish I had some pictures for you! Here is a very similar one, tied exactly the same except substitute my step 3 and 4 for his. Though this knot looks easy too......Non-slip loop knot

I was out this morning before work. 0X leader with 10lb Vanish Flouro to the bottom 2 flies. High sticking techniques yielded 2 big fish landed and 1 more that came off at the end of the fight and then got hooked in the tail. It took of downstream in current and I broke him off on purpose as I don't think I could have landed him. Way bigger than the 24s. Moral of the story is they sure didn't seem leader shy to me. And when there are no chase opportunities, you really need the line to have some jam. I was putting TONS of pressure on these fish.

Stay AWAY!!!! They came to our door while I was out. Wife answered. They had her talked into signing up. I came home and asked what was up. Dude told me that we had just signed up for a gas/electric package. I told him I was already in a contract. He said no problem since we had a contract, it wouldn't go through. I did not realize my wife had signed until after he left, but took him at his word that nothing would happen. The stupid mistake was letting him go without taking the paperwork and ripping it up. 2 wks later I get a cancellation bill from Direct Energy. To make a LONG story short, it took several weeks and some strongly worded calls to get them to cancel. Did not seem ethical to me. But I bullied them in to doing what I wanted, which was cancel. They did threaten to charge me cancellation. I think I convinced them their sales guy had a serious ethics issue. My call would be to just say no! -
Wish I had read this 1 hr ago. I had to print a new license as I lost my wallet in Texas. As an aside, loosing one's wallet when out of the country is a PAIN!!

I'm pretty much done with this, because it is really pointless and way off topic. But fun! But I do have one final question, just to change gears once again. Cuz there is little chance of this ever getting back to the original topic. But one final shot: How fun/informative is it to debate someone who has the same opinion as you? Wouldn't it be rather boring? -

100% of fishermen kill some fish in their pursuit of fun. And I would question the 90/10 ratio. -
Story About Lynn
reevesr1 replied to SanJuanWorm's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Not sure if this was Lynn, but...... Last year I replaced all the windows in my house with that expensive double-pane energy efficient kind, and today, I got a call from the contractor who installed them. He was complaining that the work had been completed a whole year ago and I still hadn't paid for them. Hellloooo ... just because I'm blonde doesn't mean that I am automatically stupid. So, I told him just what his fast talking sales guy had told me last year, that in ONE YEAR these windows would pay for themselves! Helllooooo? It's been a year! I told him. There was only silence at the other end of the line, so I finally just hung up. He never called back. Guess I won that stupid argument. I bet he felt like an idiot. -

Can't build anymore of those. They are always in someone's back yard. NIMBYism, and regulations (and not just Environmental) run absolutely amok almost guarantee no new ones will be built anytime soon. I'm no economist, geologist, environmentalist or any other ist for that matter. I do know that the world doesn't really go round and round, it really just swings back and forth like a pendulum. The pendulum right now is swinging to the over-reaction to the pending (and hasn't it been pending, for I don't know ALL OUR FREAKIN' LIVES?!), "Peak Oil" event(though there are economists out there who will tell you there is no such thing. If it is worth enough we will always find more. I'm not saying I believe that, just stating a viewpoint). It's like if we hit "Peak Oil" the whole damn world will just cease to spin. If we really do hit peak oil soon, it does not mean that we are going to run out tomorrow for cripes sake. So next, we will all over react to the price of oil. We will all be driving Prius's and bitching about lack of room in the car. People will be living in Suburbans, or Lynn's 28 ft trailer. Demand will drop, over supply will be the norm and the price will plummet. Now, it will never plummet to $25.00 again. But to think it will stay at $135, IMHO, is crazy. Next, when oil prices bottom out, people will buy big cars, other presently third world countries will start to industrialize because of cheap energy, price of oil will go up, people will speculate that we are running out, price will skyrocket ........ and the pendulum just swings back and forth. I think I've seen this story before, haven't I? Oil embargo, anyone?

Livingstone Falls. Racehorse/Dutch Creek. Great campgrounds within a few miles of each other with access to a plethora of just gorgeous rivers and streams. I fished there last year when I hadn't the slightest idea what I was doing and caught quite a few Cutties. Around that time of year as well. You could also contract Maxwell from the site here and do a walk and wade. 8 hrs of pure information. And you will surely catch fish. More importantly, you'll catch fish the next day...... Give me a shout when you get here to Chaparral. We'll pull Troutlover out and we'll show you the river around the neighborhood.......

Agreed. To get back to the original topic, if that is allowed, I think you should pick up Alberta's Trout Highway, the Forestry trunk road book by Barry Mitchell. He has all the streams along Hwy 40 (The Forestry Trunk Road) and how to fish them If you find someplace that sounds good, get a Backcountry Map book of the area (I think it's the SW Alberta one), find the stream or river and see if there are any marked trails. Maybe even Google Earth it and look? If I knew some, I'd let you know. Good luck. -
Man, Stripers on a fly rod would be sweet! Do you catch them in the surf, or out of a boat?
