  1. Well without all the cow *hit, and the bullshit coming from Cowboys, Southern Alberta might be bearable too. And sorry Don, the people in the offices are the reason the guys that decided not to go to school are able to freeze and sweat and make more money than the people down in said offices. When it comes down to it, one can't exist without the other. For the record, I've worked my ass off on a farm shovelling grain and picking rocks, delivered furniture full-time, I've shoveled/hauled yards of gravel and sand, carried tons of patio brick and retaining wall block and broken up concrete with a sledgehammer for days. Maybe I'm the exception and not the rule, but I've sweat my fair share and have also spent countless hours studying and thousands of dollars to allow me to be home every night with my family. I appreciate the sacrifices that these men and women make, but they've made choices to get themselves there and there are not many jobs in the world where you can make $100K+ without a high school diploma.
  2. Also, shouldn't Santa be prepping for Christmas by now???
  3. In the bottom vid, that second bully that shows up at around 0:07-0:14 looks huge!!
  4. It just dawned on me that if they can make cameras waterproof, dustproof, shockproof, freezeproof and even crushproof (all within limits), then why can't they start doing this with phones? I know phones have to have speakers and mics and have a lot more glass, but c'mon, get working on that tech!!!!
  5. Are they not really good eating? Are they not AKA Ling Cod? I've just heard, never tried them though.
  6. FYI, the iPhone 5 gets hot and takes a good while to charge too. I believe all these phones use Gorilla Glass 2, which I've found does scratch a lot easier than the original Gorilla Glass, but it is lighter and thinner, so I guess that's the compromise.
  7. So in terms of 'why not local'. I think it's kind of like saying, why do we bring in all these world-renowned musicians/bands (who are also artists) like Zack Brown, Metallica, whomever, when you could spend that money on local artists. I know it's not exactly apples to apples comparison because those guys are in town for a short time, and public artwork is typically is around much longer. I do have an Art degree and I gotta say I don't get the Blue Ring either....looking forward to some witty nicknames for it....
  8. Saw an ad last night for the Samsung Watch...I didn't think it would be worthwhile, but it looks pretty sweet! If this was 5yrs ago, Apple would've released this way ahead of the competition....
  9. I have an iPhone 5 for work and Galaxy S3 as a personal cell. What I can say is that the screen size alone makes the Samsung a better choice. Also, the new iOS 7 update pretty much just added features that Android already had now for a few years. For a long time, no one could touch iPhone, now, they're playing catch up. If you have Apple stock, sell it now! Have you seen the Microsoft Surface versus iPad commercial?
  10. Well, the cops didn't seem to think so....plus sounds like the guy had just about run him over just before that....Hmmm.... 1 post.... I wonder...could you be... "Red Lincoln Guy"???? Masking it by saying they were both jerks??? And the plot thickens.
  11. So a couple comments on my take of the situation: - It's hard to comment when none of us were there and heard the actual exchange, although I agree that getting physical is probably not the answer - In my experience (and this is coming from mostly playing hockey), laying a beat-down on an idiot like that is unlikely to make him change his ways, although logic would suggest it should This is just one example of regular occurences at boat launches, gas station lineups, parking lots, highway's, kid's hockey/soccer/football games, etc. etc. etc....almost anywhere people congregate, there are idiots and it seems they are multiplying like rabbits. It is guerilla warfare from within as there is no way to decipher idiots by wealth, race, religion, age or sex. Unfortunately, being an idiot is not illegal, and when they do something that is, they're rarely caught; if they're caught, the repurcussions are often inconsequential. It's only going to get worse and I definately don't have the answer to the problem (that's feasible). I am worried what the world will look like for my kids as they become adults and my future grandchildren. All you can really do is determine how you are going to deal with idiots and then try to implement that into your daily life. I guess a couple comments turned in to a bit of a rant....
  12. Does no one remember Jurrasic Park II?? The Megasaurus eats the sat phone and they find it in the poo??? Meaning its totally plauible...
  13. Definately not as funny as the first couple, but still it's humorous. They need to do one where Hank goes incognito into a 'rival' fly shop to try and get info on what's working.
  14. Pyrite will leave greenish brown streak on a ceramic tile too...
  15. I see news vans in the background, so wherever it is, it's not a daily occurance unless they update the fishing reports daily via the evening news.
  16. I usually wear a medium to light weight wool sock, usually Merino because it will wick moisture well and has natural antibacterial qualities. I do have Patagonia waders with the merino-lined neoprene bootie, wondering if I could go sockless in those. I would definately wet-wade if I was out during the day, but if you're staying past sundown, it gets cool pretty quick these days.
  17. I've got the same mower and also need a service. Anyone know what a full service with blade sharpen goes for?
  18. I grew up random camping there, my dad grew up random camping and going to scout camps in that region and we really hesitate to go there anymore unless it's midweek for a couple days in September. However, I have to disagree with you, random camping has not ruined this place, people have. People who are uneducated in how to use and leave campspots for the next person, and/or show blatant disregard for the sustainability of the area. This means that: - No, I don't find the teepee you made by cutting down live/green lodgepole pines as awesome as you do - Nor do I appreciate the broken table nailed to a tree to hold it up - I am not impressed by the face you skinned off of a black bear and nailed it to a tree - I'm all for being friendly, but really there's not room between the 50ft apart me and my brother are fishing for you....plus you're sketchy friends hanging out in the bush behind us are pretty creepy, nice mullet though - Whoa, yeah, that is a big cuttie you just bonked, buuut pretty sure it's catch and release here on the Liv. - Where am I headed? We're going to do some fishing at one of our favorite spots (dude's truck pulls a U-turn and follows) - I don't really enjoy the rocks you're throwing at me, or in the river as I'm fishing because you think you're camping spot includes you're own strech of the river for that weekend - I understand you don't want to venture too far into the woods, but that's no excuse to take shits beside every tree in a 15ft radius from your campsite - Etc, etc, etc The above experiences are all examples of human beings who either don't care, don't respect or have not taken the time or been told how to random camp responsibly. As I said, I random camp, I can count on two hands the number of times I've stayed in an actual campground, I know that when I go out, I do so responsibly and respectfully. Please do not lump me in with these idiots. Unfortuntely, these people will wreck it for everyone and likely the ultimate answer is to get rid of random camping altogether. I would be in favor of a permit draw system to limit the number of people in the area at any given time and I would also be in favor of restricting the number of offroad vehicles in the area at any given time (honestly, I would prefer a total ban, but that's probably never going to happen) It truely saddens me that my family no longer enjoys going back to a place that is so beautiful and I have so many childhood memories of, we went to get away from people and could, for the most part. I would like to take my grandchildren there someday, but right now, I don't even want to take my kids there.
  19. What the hell guys? Simma down na. I know RB and he knows of a couple guys who almost died wading on the Highwood this summer, I'll let him tell the story if he wants. Anyway, Jayhad is right that you won't sink with full waders, but wrong when he says it's no harder to swim. Water is no more dense in your waders than out, but if your waders are full, essentially they are now part of your body mass and volume and to move/swim in the water is much more laborious. Just like when Jayhad filled his boat with water going over the Harvey passage, it didn't sink, but I bet it was a hell of a lot harder to row, by the way, what PFD were you wearing Jayhad? And forget water, is it harder to swim with *hit in your waders? Grinr, do you have a separate PFD for the frickin handgun you carry with you? Hope you don't tuck it inside your waders, people might get the wrong idea
  20. It's a tough call. I have a 6wt and a 4wt and traditionally have used the 6 for all methods on the Bow and the 4wt for smaller mountain streams. This summer I took both rods to the Bow, I had a nymph rig set up on my 6wt and was dry fly fishing with foam hoppers on my 4wt. I found a great spot where I actually hooked up 4 times in the exact same spot on the riffle within 20mins, I've never experienced that on the Bow before, thought the fish were way more wiley than that, especially because the day as a whole was slow. I only landed one because the pool lead into some rapids and the 4wt didn't have the backbone to pull them our of there. The one I did land didn't make a break for the faster water and probably measured 16-18", of course the others felt way bigger
  21. That's kind of my point Don, the Oilsands has changed drastically in the past 50 years...but a lot of people keep painting it with the same brush. How do you expect to every find the real truth in anything you hear? If an investment company separates people from their money and their clients are not seeing returns, then that firm goes under pretty quick, so I don't think that it can be slanted that bad. Do you trust the Pembina institute over CAPP? How do you know what to believe? I think you should get well versed in all aspects and find out where the numbers are most consistent.
  22. What about the St. Croix Bank Robber designed by Kelly Galloup specifically for streamer fishing? I've never tried one, but I like Kelly Galloup, that must mean it's good...$399.99 at Wholesale, you could almost buy two....or a sweet reel and line to go with it!
  23. Don, only extremist environmental groups are still calling them tar sands. Maybe industry spin, but Oilsands seems to be adopted by most of the media, gov't and general public. Anyway, my company has a report issued by MacQuarie Equities Research called the "In-situ"-ation report. I don't think I can distriubute it to you guys because it's property of the company. Anyway, although they may have a vested interest in promoting investment in Oilsands development, they also supposed to be responsible to their clients, meaning the data they report should be somewhat unbiased. I'd suggest you buy a copy (it's a 61 page report) and give it a good read, if anything it should be educational because there is a lot of explanation in there. I haven't had time to read the entire thing, but it seems like you have enough time on your hands to give it a thorough read.
  24. Don, you have to specify what kind of extraction method is being used. Are you talking thermal, mining or what? Are you comparing apples to apples? What year was the break even poing for oilsands $80? Back in the 70s? Capital costs in 2006-2007 were at a high during the boom, since then, prices have dropped, efficiencies have increased due to advances in technology, particularily with SAGD development. The break-even point for SAGD is currently $55-$61 for SAGD from what I've seen. If you want to stir up the pot, then fine, but please at least reference your sources. Obviously don't believe a word CAPP says, so who do you believe? where do you get your numbers from in the first place? You're right, pavement is closer than water, but water is the only way to get it to the Asian and Indian markets, and those are the guys who are actively investing in oilsands development right now. Today, Sinopec annnounced a 240,000 barrel per day refinery in Northern China, gotta get that resource over there somehow, and of course it's going to come at a cost, but if they don't need it, then they wouldn't be buying in. You want to keep the refining in Canada? That's a great idea, and that's what I'd like to see, but who in Canada has the resources to pay for it? The gov't? not likely Private enterprise? maybe, but they'd better get moving quick or they'll miss the boat.
