agbff
I want to get into fly tying and plan on buying a vise and all the materials for the winter months. My question is... Do you guys ever meet and have fly tying clinics or just meet for the trades? Thanks, andy
SanJuanWorm
If someone wants to put together a beer and flies nite i'd show up. I'd like to tie.

admin
You could also check out the hook and hackle club in Calgary. I'm not sure what they have in terms of lessons, but I think there are a couple members on the board here that can let you know what they offer. cheeler
http://hookandhackleclub.org/ Meetings every 2nd Wednesday throughout the fly tying season, and you get beginner lessons included with your membership (the new class just started last week, however, so you've missed one fly). Also a huge library of everything you'd need for fly tying and fishing, and a 10% discount at the fishin hole, so a membership can pretty much pay for itself. cheeler
So can i just show up or do I need to be invited? how does one become a member? Just show up, guests are always welcome. There's only a few meetings left this year, so the dues would also be pro rated. (50/year normally)
Harps
You could drive down to Lethbridge... Beer and Fly night. It's quite easy to set up as long as you have a location available. Guito has done a great job in Lethbridge. And, isn't that tying night at the Rose and Crown in Calgary still occuring? (Wasn't it Mr. Botangles?) lonefisher
Lets play poker for flies "I'll see your 2 nymphs and raise you 2 bull trout streamers" Its easier to drink beer while playing poker then to do it while tying flies
SilverDoctor
Come on down to the hook and hackle club next session. I should be there, good group of people.
RussC
Country Pleasures http://countrypleasures.com/fly_fishing_seminars.htm and Fishtails http://www.fishtails.ca/news-seminars.htm have seminars on the weekends during the winter that are free to attend. As well Bow River Troutfitters have seminars on the weekends (I have never been as I live in the deep south end of the city) Alot of great information is shared at each seminar with participation from those that attend. Give them a call to see when they are going to start up again. You won't be sorry that you went, as there are alot of tricks and tips shared to make your home made flies look better. Best of luck Russ C
jimmydee
If Al and Sean,or, (I've heard It's Al and Rose & Crown) could get their "Many reasons sorted out" we would still have a great Fly tying club in Calgary. I think it's " Mr Bogangles" thats on this board we all need to talk to. Does anybody know Seans contact, ie; Board member name? Or e-mail; ????????? Or even get them to have another location other than the R & C
