I want to get into fly tying and plan on buying a vise and all the materials for the winter months. My question is... Do you guys ever meet and have fly tying clinics or just meet for the trades?

Thanks, andy

You could also check out the hook and hackle club in Calgary. I'm not sure what they have in terms of lessons, but I think there are a couple members on the board here that can let you know what they offer.

Meetings every 2nd Wednesday throughout the fly tying season, and you get beginner lessons included with your membership (the new class just started last week, however, so you've missed one fly). Also a huge library of everything you'd need for fly tying and fishing, and a 10% discount at the fishin hole, so a membership can pretty much pay for itself.

Just show up, guests are always welcome. There's only a few meetings left this year, so the dues would also be pro rated. (50/year normally)

You could drive down to Lethbridge... Beer and Fly night.

It's quite easy to set up as long as you have a location available.

Guito has done a great job in Lethbridge.

And, isn't that tying night at the Rose and Crown in Calgary still occuring? (Wasn't it Mr. Botangles?)

Country Pleasures http://countrypleasures.com/fly_fishing_seminars.htm and Fishtails http://www.fishtails.ca/news-seminars.htm have seminars on the weekends during the winter that are free to attend. As well Bow River Troutfitters have seminars on the weekends (I have never been as I live in the deep south end of the city) Alot of great information is shared at each seminar with participation from those that attend. Give them a call to see when they are going to start up again. You won't be sorry that you went, as there are alot of tricks and tips shared to make your home made flies look better.

Best of luck

If Al and Sean,or, (I've heard It's Al and Rose & Crown) could get their "Many reasons sorted out" we would still have a great Fly tying club in Calgary. I think it's " Mr Bogangles" thats on this board we all need to talk to. Does anybody know Seans contact, ie; Board member name? Or e-mail; ????????? Or even get them to have another location other than the R & C
