DonAndersen
Guys/Gals, Spotted @ a local church this morning. And on the opposite side we have this: catch ya' Don
JMasson
I'm sure I'll irritate some of the people on here when I say that organized religion is the biggest sham in history. I mean "Christians aren't perfect, just forgiven"? What's that all about!? So you can commit all seven of the deadly sins and then go to church and confess your sins to Jesus and you'll go to heaven!?! Give me a break. I just don't buy into it at all. I was baptised as a Catholic and haven't practiced in about 15 years. I apologize in advance if anyone took offense to the above. "Religion is the opiate of the people."- Karl Marx James Just wondering how you think people get to heaven? by being a good guy? maybe killing some infidels? or just by having good karma and being a good guy? or maybe you think that you die and that's it for eternity...to me, it's scary any way you look at it. Oh, I'm not offended, just wondering what you do think, since you know what you don't think.

Oh, I'm not offended, just wondering what you do think, since you know what you don't think. I don't believe in "heaven" as you're referring to it. I do admit that it's scary to me too. Not the prospect of dying...that is the one certainty that no one on this planet can escape. "Killing infidels"? I would've thought that from my original post you would've ruled that one out. How many people throughout history have been killed because they believed in the "wrong" God (or gods, spirits, deities, listened to the "wrong" man preach about God, etc...)? So, I guess to answer your question, I'm not sure how people get into "heaven". An even better answer would be that I'm not sure what happens to you after you die. reevesr1
"Religion is the opiate of the people."- Karl Marx James James, Thanks for the insight. I always like to use Karl Marx as my spiritual and intellectual guide. How did it all work out for him and his ideas by the way?

Flytyer
That first pic is hilarious and it does ring alot of truth if you sum up it's part. I just hope this does not turn into another circus like a couple of recent topics.

JMasson
James, Thanks for the insight. I always like to use Karl Marx as my spiritual and intellectual guide. How did it all work out for him and his ideas by the way? Socialism can work !!!!! I don't think anyone should use Karl Marx as a spiritual guide...I mean, afterall Communism (Marxism or however the original idea is twisted and perverted) was an intellectual movement and not a spiritual one. I guess it's three and a half years of studying at an extremely liberal university and listening to many different profs who were openly socialist that got me thinking this way. That and perhaps studying Moder Evolution Synthesis for all that time. I have no problem with those that choose to be religious (whatever religion you wish to follow), it's just not for me. JMasson
After reading Flytyers post I just want to make perfectly clear that my intent wasn't to start a circus. Since this is the NFR sub-forum I figured it would be appropriate to post some opinions and maybe even have some good conversation with (hopefully) educated individuals. If this thread starts to get out of control I hope it gets shut down. James
DonAndersen
Flytyer, Gotta agree with ya'. The first picture kept me chuckling for an hour while grocery shopping. The other side about sums up the last 37 years. catch ya' Don
monger
Great sign Don, thanks for posting. I have a problem with a lot of "organized religion" myself. Faith in God however is not a problem for me. People are sinful creatures so it always easy to find their faults. The truth does exist, its just that men keep trying to invent their own for personal gain. darthwader
This is an important topic... particularliy with Easter round the corner. Easter celebrates the resurrection of christ and when he comes back and sees his shadow... that's 6 more weeks of winter and that will have a profound affect on the fly fishing season. I think saying "organized religion is a sham" is a pretty blanket generalization, which is dangerous and perhaps a bit irresponsible. Now here's my opinion. I think it's a popular contemporary idea to bash organized religion. I believe this to be true from talking to many of my friends and acquaintances and also by looking at the decline in participation in organized religion throughout Western civilization. And no, I'm not going to take out my bible and damn the sinners or come to your door and try to get you to subscribe to the Watchtower ( I think they still call it that). Hawgstoppah
Well I for one think that society wouldn't be going in the direction it is going if more people put their butts in a seat at church... however, having said that.. I ain't very good at attending myself either. I do believe... it's just hard to beleive when it's gonna be +11 and no wind,

DonAndersen
and from the best "sig" line I've seen comes the quote: "Some people go to church and think about fishing and some people go fishing and think about God" Don
