Bighorn River Montana Fish Porn

Here are some pics. We floated 2 days. First day was slow i picked up 12 with some really nice fish. Guide set me up with 5x tippet for my nymphs. Well that stopped after I bow river hookset my first fish and snapped off. So i brought my trusty 6lb maxima. Guide thought I was nuts. OH THE FISH WILL SEE THAT. Nope. Not one fish snapped off after that. I picked up well over 50 fish during the both days with the biggest being 22inch. Guide says its the biggest one seen all year. COOL..... Montana state record for browns is 28 inches. Oh man. What a river. 8000 trout per mile. Crystal clear. Looking under the boat in the water as you float all you see is browns/rainbows spooking. So cool. Anyway it was a blast. I"ll put more pics up tomorrow when I get to work and can resize them.

22" brown.

One of many nice bows caught. They fight harder than the bow bows lb per lb

More to come.

Cool Dave, excellent underwater shot. Look forward to the rest of the photo album.

The water temps down there are likely +10F warmer than the Bow would be right now and that may account for the scrappy nature of the trout you hooked up with. Cause we all know, lb. for lb., the Bow River Bullets...are the current

World champions....

SJW, nice the guide put you onto a few fish, & let you feel like you got to show him a thing or 2. 6lb Maxima? Wire SJW's? You gotta be nuts! Well, I bet Montana is a little different after a visit from SJW. Good on ya chum, glad you had a good time. Excellent pics, those fish are lovely. I wonder how your trip would have been if you only used the guide's 'suggested flies'.

Im planning on doing a trip outta Alberta to a different river every year. Paying for a guide is priceless. I learned a bunch even down there. Cost was 375 USD per float. Catching a HOG like that bad boy brown in front of 3 guided drift boats as they float by...priceless.

Wow looks like you had a great trip :) ! I would really like to do a tour of Montana’s trout streams some time.

As a side note remember to wash your wading boots in a mild bleach water solution to kill whirling disease and other aquatic diseases before getting into the river.

Sorry not trying to be interfering or anything but I'd hate to see Alberta infected with WD!

Did you find the fishing more technical than the Bow or about the same? As far as pressure wise were there more or less fisherman than the Bow?

Greg. The Bighorn flows right out of the bottom of a large reservoir--very cold water from the bottom. Even if it is 30C outside the water is still very cold for wet wading.

Dave, did you see any carp in the afterdam or in the river? Did you use some small sowbugs?

A few carp or suckers as i call em. I caught 1 whitefish. Yes small sowbugs and sjw's used all weekend with most fish caught on the sjw. C-c-c-c-c-cold water.
