Taco Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Is there such an animal as a decent breathable friggin' wading/guide jacket for under 300 bucks?? I'll be damned if I gonna pay more for one than I would for a decent fly reel Quote
bcubed Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Are you committed to the pockets? If not, the outdoor research jackets are a great bang for the buck, and have a great gaurentee. I don’t think I’d buy a guide jacket again 1 Quote
Taco Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 Not totally but it would be nice to have handwarmer pockets and water resistant cuffs. I want it mostly for floating lakes in a pontoon. Quote
jgib01 Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Frogg Toggs? Their stuff seems priced well. I've only tried them on in store, but seem pretty well made. Haven't purchased one, so am limited on what I can give for testimonial. 1 Quote
BurningChrome Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 http://www.patagonia.ca/product/mens-minimalist-wading-jacket/81831.html Patagonia warranty and quality at a good price. It's also light enough to pack down and carry easily. I roll mine up into the hood and carry it in the loops on my Vedavoo sling. 1 Quote
troutlover Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 I have Hodgmans 3 in 1. Its warm and on the rainiest of steelheading days-weeks it has kept me warm and dry for 3 seasons now. There are also hand warmers in both the removable liner and the waterproof jacket. 1 Quote
eagleflyfisher Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 I'm not much help here, I have a few wading jackets accumulated now. Hands down my best is the Patagonia . Wrists cinch up real tight, if it rains for day after day your arms stay dry, can plunge wrist in to release fish, good hood that cover S ball cap, easy to run zippers. Other than color has faded I'm most impressed is that there is no signs of wear on any of the seems, dbl taped,. back in the day I think this was almost $500. after a few failures on trips with old oilskins and lighter rain jackets I spent the dough. after probably 12 yrs I'm over it and still wearing the jacket. Roast Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Patagonia has their top of the line wading jackets on clearance now. $317 with all the bells and whistles http://www.patagonia.ca/product/sst-jacket-for-fly-fishing/81863.html?dwvar_81863_color=TRLG&cgid=web-specials#tile-8=&prefn1=sport&prefv1=fly-fishing&start=1&sz=24 Quote
SilverDoctor Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Frogg Toggs have been good and well under the budget you mentioned. I also have a Redhead Wading Jacket that I've used for 6 years that has kept me dry. Quote

Given that they have all the sizes left at the end of the season. I am guessing they are trying to reign in the price a bit to make it more appealing. Both look like nice jackets but I would buy the older one. Quote

Taco Posted October 4, 2017 Author Posted October 4, 2017 I'm pretty damn sporty for an old guy, not very with it but sporty as hell Quote
bcubed Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 That's the main difference, new design and lower price. No matter what, if you're wearing a wading jacket, you're gonna be looking rather dorky. Probably trying to steal a bit of simms market share. You probably wont find a better deal then the SST on sale, and if anything ever happens to it, Patagonia will take care of you.. 1 Quote
