Anyone notice the little 6' rod Lee was using on the big brookie that kept short strikin' ? He's known to have caught and landed Atlantics with a 6' 6 wt and a sz 22 fly.

Thought I'ed share, this is the Lee Whuff rod series, a taper he had made, I was lucky enough to find it years ago. Often fish it on small waters and large. I love the action and it’s not only fun on small streams but great for light dry presentations on big browns. It is classed as a 5 wt but the window is 4 to 7.

And as an added bonus found this commemerative reel. Don't fish it.

Well that's Cooler n' Hell 2 for this thread1

Garcia/Conolon made the fiberglass version. Still a rare highly desired rod even today.

Thanks Lorne

Thanks for that Taco. Makes me remember how much I loved watching/listening to Gowdy.

Never got much Gowdy on CBC TV early on but when we finally got a second station, He was on Wide World of Sports Saturday afternoons.

He did Wide World of Sports, announced every sport under the sun. But I mostly remember him for "The American Sportsman." I found this on a google search, a bit of a tribute from BassPro (or all places). His talk around the 6 minute mark really reminds me of how my dad would explain fishing, if you ever pinned him down (and it's my dad's birthday today, so I'm so glad I looked this up-a bunch of great memories swirling around my head now). Anyway, here is the clip:

I can't think about Lee Wulff without his wife Joan, a world-class fly caster and a marvelous person. I was lucky enough to meet her at a show in Montana a few years back. She still runs her fly casting school.

My ambition is to live to 99 and get shot by a jealous husband. Otherwise get a head butt from a lunker bull or brown and drift away.

What an awesome video!

That. Was. Awesome.

Has anyone ever fished the Minipi?

I was there 6 years ago, tough fishing but landed 18 large trout for the week, all on dry flies! Average size was 6 lbs, one fish was an Arctic Char. There are also tons of pike along the shorelines.
