Streamer Rod

Hi Guys,

I have been fishing streamers for a bit now and I was thinking about getting a rod that may be better suited to tossing larger streamers. I have been using a 10' Amundsen Wind Warrier 6wt but it feels a little slow/soft. Maybe I need to move up to a 7 or 8 wt with a faster action. I will be using sink tip and full sink lines.

I will be using it on the bow and for bulls in the mountains,

I have a budget of about $700....maybe more if I can convince the wife I have been a good hubby.

Thanks

What about the St. Croix Bank Robber designed by Kelly Galloup specifically for streamer fishing? I've never tried one, but I like Kelly Galloup, that must mean it's good...$399.99 at Wholesale, you could almost buy two....or a sweet reel and line to go with it!

Personally I'd recommend a 9 foot 6 weight, fast like a Sage VXP or TCX (if you can bump that budget a bit). I've always felt that a 7 or 8 is too much stick for the vast majority of the AB trout

I agree. I find the Sage VXP to cast more like a 7wt. It is my streamers/hella-windy-day rod. It is a little small for pike though.

The show is this weekend, why not go and test some out? Testing a few in a relatively short period of time gives you fresh memory of whatever number you try out.

This is kind of what I was thinking, I just wanted to get some ideas on what to try before I was there and distracted by everything shiney and new.

If anyone has anymore suggestions, fire away.

Thanks guys

as with DHurst, I'm a fan of 7wt 10' for streamers... I use the Sage One

I second this - got to use this rod on a float last summer and it was the perfect streamer rod. The extra foot makes throwing big flies and mending much easier. Highly recommended.
