Hey guys,

I am going to be changing employment this summer and as a result the wife suggested I should take 6 weeks off, 2 weeks I will be camping with her but she said the remaining 4 weeks would be mine to do with as I please.

What to do? Hmmmm fly fishing comes to mind.

I am thinking of trips to the Oldman, Livingstone(and tribs of both), Crownest, Ram, Elk, St Mary's in BC plus various lakes and ponds. Also many trips to the Bow from Banff to Carsland.

What do you guys suggest? What would you do?

It is too much free time for me to think about right now.

Thanks

Lance

Explore some water that is new to you. You never know.... sometimes you find that special spot... I have found so many of those when I have gone poking around down around here :)

Or the way the water is this year you could spend 4 wks building an ark. Include a fly tying station though. :D

Cool thanks, forgot about those two lakes.

Haven't been there since I was 10.

What is special, other than great scenery, about those locations?

Thanks

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I am done at my current job June15, I have already been hired by another company and it starts Aug 2, so that's my 6 weeks off. They would have took me right away, but I needed a break.

I plan to hit the forestry trunk road alot and just drive until I see somewhere to fish. I plan to have quite a few, just throw the gear in the truck and go days...

I have been past those lakes many times and never fished them, so I think I just have always wanted to fish there.

Thanks again guys, if you have any more ideas...fire away

There is a book, you have probably heard of it, called

"Alberts's Trout Highway, Fishing the Forestry Trunk Road" by Barry Mitchell

I just picked it up, seems to be a pretty good read so far.

Covers most of the water in the foothills.

Might give you a bunch of ideas.

I'd do a lot of drinking, hanging out with boys. For fishing, I'd spend a LOT of time in SW Alberta fishing streams I haven't been to.

- Crow

- Carbondale

- Dutch

- Willow

- Upper Highwood and Sheep

- Racehorse

Just open up the Backwoods Map Book and drive, explore, fish, repeat.

Xplorer,

If you live in southern AB, there is no point in spending 4 weeks in the area. You can do that any time. It's close. I'd suggest a trout tour through Golden BC>Montana>Idaho>Wyoming>Montana>home.

Those places are stuff of longer trips.

Mind you, dogs need petted and wive kissed so a trip of that length should be shared.

Rent a small trailer or better yet a motor home - invite your wife and have fun.

regards,

Don
