  1. Good to know, thanks. My usual reaction to a US based company that won't ship to Canada is screw you I'll buy elsewhere; but this gives an option if the original deal is good enough.
  2. Thanks for the helpful info RunnyD. I've heard great things about the area & am looking forward to it. ruff
  3. Does anyone have first hand information about hotels & golfing in this location. We are all reasonably decent players ( although seniors ) & aren't intimidated by difficult tracks. Not interested in 5 star accommodations; just good courses, decent hotels & good food at a decent price. Flying from Calgary, probably mid March. Thanks. Will post on AOF also.
  4. Just curious as to why you want to catch them. Probably just for something different I suppose. Caught a few in La Ronge a few years ago while Walleye fishing. Not much fight or fun to catch. They were like an eel and wrapped around my arm while netting. Up there they are considered a trash fish.
  5. Had the el hosels for awhile many years ago. They go away. (And without buying any Tin Cup inspired contraptions!) Great point; try to hit one. Took a lesson to get rid of them. The pro finally just walked away & said they will go away ,& they did. Cost a lot of money in bets before they did! My 66 had 2 eagles, one from about 70 feet & one from about 8 inches, 4 birds & 2 doubles. Never to happen again. As far as the putting goes, it will come back again ( hopefully ). As you know, once you start making a few 6-8 footers you will make more of them. Still the most frustrating but rewarding game around. Good luck.
  6. You certainly aren't the first one that that has ever happened to, and you will do it more times probably; been there done that. But I think that you will admit that hitting a bunch of good golf shots & posting a decent score is very rewarding. I would compare a good golf game to successfully stalking a large trout in a river and outwitting it. I have shot 66, but I have never outwitted a 26 inch trout on the Bow! The y word is bad, the 'sha' word is worse. Play as much as you can, while you can.
  7. Great topic If you expend as much effort at golfing that you do at fly fishing, you may be a single digit handicap some day. I went in reverse; single digit handicap, tried fly fishing', screwed up my swing completely. Only because I didn't golf much. Now I have trouble breaking 80 & have not fished recently. Something to do with the wrist & age. Both great activities!
  8. Heading down to Vegas at the end of the month. Haven't been there for a long time. Will probably fly WestJet, but the array of available hotels they offer for 3 nights is just mind boggling. Any recommendations for a hotel, 3.5 -4 star is fine. Don't need all the frills, spas & pools. Something clean & decent on or near the "strip". Thanks
  9. Hi I have been using Telus for a pay & talk cellphone for years. They just jumped my local call rates from 30 cents per minute to 50 cents per minute; ridiculous! Looking around, it seems like Petro-Canada has the best deal. I didn't even know they have a cellphone plan ( 25 cents per minute ). Does anyone here use them or have any experience with them? Thanks
  10. With all the flooding in High River, is there any problem going south of Calgary on 2A, to get to 543, & then heading west over to 22? If that info has been posted I didn't see it. Thanks
  11. Nicads are the battery of the past, Ni-MH is the way to go for these units.
  12. Garmin no longer makes the 60CSx ( they were a great unit ) & has replaced it with the 62 series ( 3 models available ). I use Sanyo 'eneloop' LSD ( low self discharge ) rechargeable batteries that seem to work very well. Read your owners manual for tips on how to preserve battery life.
  13. I have bought a couple of canopies from Raven on Meridian Road NE. They have different styles & prices. Their new cappers can be colour matched to your truck paint code: looks great. Be sure to have the canopy interior light hard wired to 12v so you don't need the key or any other lights on to use it. Don't forget to shut the light off though.
  14. Absolutely correct if you have any mechanical aptitude what so ever. If you can put line on your reel you should be able to change/ lube your bearings.
  15. Too extreme. Just talk to the useless City workers that you see all over the place & they will give you a deal as long as the union is not involved. They will actually work for less than $45 per hour as long as it is cash & they get a paid break every 45 minutes. Unlike the COPS, they don't request donuts from Timmy's.
  16. How about the CO's institute the same policy as our Sheriff's & RCMP do on the highways: Zero Tolerance. Don't try to tell me that you don't know the fishing regulations: if you don't TFB, pay the price! Ignorance is no excuse ( supposedly ).
  17. Garmin makes the best GPS'r units in the business. GPS City has the most knowledgeable staff ( & usually the best prices ) since Gil left GPS Central. I've dealt with both but prefer GPS City. Did I mention that Garmin is the best.
  18. Here is the reply from BCMI about re-opening: The estimated time is next winter right now, we do have a hotel in Coleman which is five minutes away. The number for Coleman is 403-563-5600. Thanks to beedhead & TerryH for their suggestions. Highwood Motel & Stop Inn are comparable in price for my needs. $70 ( plus taxes ) per night for 1 adult, queen bed. That's certainly reasonable. Thanks to all.
  19. Thanks I just checked the website for BCMI at Blairmore & it said it was non-operational, but didn't provide any details. I sent them an email & will post their reply if I get one.
  20. Plan to spend a few days in 'the pass' in mid May. Any recommendations for a no frills motels in the area; just something clean & quiet. Preferably Blairmore or Coleman. Getting to damn old to tent it. Not interested in B&B's. Thanks
  21. You will probably have to be a senior ( senile ) citizen to have an answer to this question, & have lived in Calgary for a long time. In the late 1950's & early 1960's, there was a ballroom ( a place to dance & meet ladies ) on 17Ave. SW . It was on the north side of 17 Ave. & west of 4th St., across from WCHS. It was not the Harris Sky Room. Anyone remember the name? Thanks
  22. Firefighters made a grisly discovery in Fish Creek Park Sunday morning — a body inside a burned-out vehicle. The Calgary Fire Department was called out to a location down Bow Bottom Tr. S.E., south of the Sikome Lake and not far off of Hwy. 22X, to extinguish a grey minivan that was fully ablaze. Police Insp. Darren Cave said it was around 6:30 a.m. when the fire was out and the smoke cleared the body was revealed and cops were called.
  23. Does anyone go to, or know of an independent auto repair shop, garage or mechanic, where a person can get a good job done at a fair & reasonable price? For domestic vehicles. Definitely not a dealership; I don't want to feel that I should have been kissed while I was getting screwed. Preferably in the south part of town. There has to be some around-doesn't there? Thanks
