pipes, do you want to trade some pheasant for some elk? i have a few wings and a few colars/breasts and i think i have a back or 2 kicking around
-
i havent bought any in a long time. i only have a few colours though and was thinking of taking a look around. my dark brown and tan looked ok but i dont go through them quickly so the packages i purchased last year are still good. i wll keep an eye out for decent condition

well, if anyone has today's calgary sun, pg 5 is a picture of my taxidermist. - sorry, off topic. i fleshed 4 pheasants last year - with the help of said taxidermist. after fleshing, i used borax powder, laid out on newspaper in the cool dark garage for 3 weeks before bagging and storing. pulled 2 out this summer and they look great, no bugs, no lost feathers, no decomp. birds are actually very easy but time consuming to get all the meat out from under the bones.

Glen, do you have any friends in the US. i know it is a bit of a pain, but ship it to them and then have them send it to you labled 'present/gift' it is a serious pain in the butt. in my industry we have found that as the canadian dollar goes up and the US down, prices in the US are rising for some things. what i want to know is why gas went up again today. CAD opened at 1.08 USD and the crude went up a tiny bit, but really if a barrel is 90 USD, that's $83.33CAD. why is gas back up to 1.02/L. when i was in oregon in August, gas was 2.58USD per imperial gallon. = approx .68usd a liter. i know, taxes.

alternative/punk fishing song acid trip. we are getting closer. better than the country

as much as i like the olive, it doesnt stand out well. red is high-vis. i cant say i am big on the stonefly, but since i couldnt come up with a logo idea, my opinion doesnt count. lol but i think i did comment on the flyfishcalgary.com without the http portion, so i'll put my 2 cents in about that again. the dot com will imply a web address. the http takes away from the overall visual effect

that's why it stays in the freezer before it goes in the nuker. i guess i forgot to mention that. everything that i get from my taxidermist is treated already because of the work he does. i just can't stand the smell of moth balls. reminds me of granny and i want to puke

free range, like chickens in the market - organic, if bred. i guess technically any wild free range animal would be considered organic. koolaid, i always thought koolaid would run. how do you set it? LF, i have a whole rubbermaid container of mule and white tail. the koolaid is a much better option than picric. do you have a website or instructions?

any hair will work from the deer family from most places on the body. that being said, the really short stuff from the legs and ears wont be of much help. moose, elk, white tail and mule are the most popular. caribou and antelope tend to be rather fragile. mane, neck, back, rump, shoulder, belly will all work just fine. i doubt it is organic, but you can purchase from any of the fly supply shops. sorry, i have never bothered to ask superfly where they get their deer from. note to self, ask at sportsman show... maybe that is where all the road kill goes... hummm if you have a hunter friend, make sure the hide is fleshed well and either dried/salted/boraxed or professionally tanned. to get rid of bugs, i just nuke it in the microwave for 15 sec. moth balls dont always work and it stinks. keep in a cool dark place for all furs as for dying, unless you have expreience with picric, i'd stay away from it. it is very volitile and nasty to work with. i buy all my dyed stuff. i dont want the hassle or the work.

i have one and use it from time to time. i find the spring on mine is a little weak but still holds the fibers until i clamp it off. i havent figured out the dowels yet. lost the instruction book soon after i got the gadget

if lethbridge didnt have it, wholesale will transfer between stores. the calgary store is now the warehouse for all of the stores i dont think we will have much of an issue with cabela's. bass pro is supposed to opening in balzac soon, now that they have the water issue sorted out. last i heard about cabela's was that they were only going to open an outet for mail order in canada. but who knows

careful, she might sit on you
-
oh god hawgstoppah. did you have to do that. my god that was awful. she's a little heavier than i remember. i dont think shes more popular, just annoying enough to get noticed
-
that's an interesting way of doing it. so you just slipped the beads over the cdc and glued them in place? and here i was screwing around with wires and such. i like the look of this.
-
i did an internet search and 2 websites that i found indicate boiling the hair will straighten. oddly, both sites were art sites referring to deer hair paint brushes. if i find anything else, i'll post.
-
uhhh, huh. sure hummmmmm i believe you. honestly. i swear i believe you!!

the may fly tag was on the ad for purchase. prior to that, no i had no idea. i'm assuming they are wing templates for mayfly patterns? i threw in the clothes peg, only assuming that the burning of feathers would smell just about as great as hair... eww do you use these at all?
-
in my pile of stuff that i have, i found a set of 'wing burners' actually 2 sets, but i had no idea what they were and i was going to take a picture but while searching through an online fly tying material store i tripped across them. what exactly do you do with them, or how do you use them? i'm envisioning feathers, a lighter and clothes peg for your nose

spinning deer hair. and is there anyway to do it neatly without hanging a vaccuum from the celling? i guess more specifically i should say shaping spun deer hair. i can spin it, but no matter what. the shaping looks like dung
