  1. Won't have time to make it down to pick up the materials for the first round but I'll be by on the weekend to get in on round 2 for sure. Great idea for a contest!
  2. Make a reservation for the Genius Bar at the Market Mall Apple Store. Bring the Touch with you and if your Windows computer is a laptop bring that as well. Weird problems like this are extremely difficult to troubleshoot without being in front of the computer or having experienced the same problem before. http://concierge.apple.com/store/R301
  3. You in particular might want to think twice before buying an Apple product... http://graphics8.nytimes.com/packages/pdf/...ple-chamber.pdf
  4. Umm, there are no antivirus products for the iPhone or iPod Touch. Mac users think they're immune to viruses anyhow... Prices for iPods are going to be pretty much the same everywhere, though some places might throw in freebies like a free case. Refurbs will be cheaper if you're ok with them (some people aren't).
  5. I think Aaron had a black and blue version of this fly as well that should work really well on the Bow. Best thing about some of these patterns is that you can play around with lots of different colour combinations. We need video of how it swims in water
  6. Yup, reminds me of a quote - The lady doth protest too much, methinks.
  7. This summer was the first year that I was really determined to do a lot of dry fly fishing to the point that I only carried a box of dry flies with me and no nymphs. Was out one evening with Al and Pete fishing to some risers. Once we figured out what they were taking it was only a matter of getting the fly over the fish. We each got into some nice fish and were having a great time. There was one snout coming up a good way out in the pool that was rising regularly. Since it was far and I could easily make out the snout I figured it was a pretty nice sized fish. The light was getting low and we were fishing small mayflies that were hard enough to see a few feet away. I started casting out to the snout, but kept falling short or getting snagged in the grass on the high bank behind me. I finally managed to get a cast that looked like it had enough distance to be in his feeding lane. A few seconds later (though it seemed like forever) the snout came up and I figured my fly was in the area. Waited a second then lifted my rod tip and the line went tight. I had him. For about one whole second before he gave a good head shake and broke my fly off. Most memorable fish of the year for me.
  8. The question is when the next nice day will be...
  9. So I was fishing with Tiger Woods and his girlfriend and we each had a 100 fish day in a national park fishing egg patterns under an indicator on a spey rod while denying global warming and eating dolphin sandwiches with Tim Horton's coffee in the paper cups (which we threw in the ditch)...
  10. Yeah, I found Aquastealth soles are great in everything but snow/ice. Last winter I got the screw in studs for them and they were much better. The Vibram soles are also not the best on ice without some sort of studs. Think I'm going to put away my StreamTreads for the winter and use the studded Aquastealth instead.
  11. Just realized that neither one of us answered your switch rod question. A switch rod can be defined a couple of ways, but it's most commonly a rod longer than a single hander but shorter than most spey rods that can be cast two-handed overhead, one-handed overhead (though tiring), and spey cast. In my view they're good for water where you don't need to make very long casts but still want to use say a scandi or skagit head with sink tips to swing flies. Lots of guys use them two hand overhead for casting off the beach into the surf too.
  12. First off, I don't know that a rod suitable for steelhead and salmon is really going to be much fun for trout. You probably wouldn't want to use the same single handed rod for all of them either. That's just my opinion, though. At the price point you're looking at you should check out Amundson, Echo, Beulah, TFO, and Snowbee off the top of my head. The Sage VT2 is worth a look as well, but you should be aware that the 7130 you're probably looking at is considered by most to be closer to an 8wt. The thing with all these rods is that they have significantly different actions so you really want to cast a few of them on the water to see which suits you best. Also, what kind of lines are you primarily looking at using on the rod?
  13. How so? Because of the content or just that it will draw more people to the region in search of steelhead?
  14. Jack, doesn't that setup cause extra hinging during the cast? Or is the mono stiff enough that it isn't an issue? I've been using the Compact Skagits for a while now as well with the 15' Rio tips and haven't found any problems, though I haven't tried them with anything heavier than a type 6.
  15. You mean this one?
  16. Doing some market research Courtney? So out of curiosity, is everyone talking AFTMA or "spey rod ratings" for line weights on their switchers? Some of the switch rods out there use ratings more compatible with AFTMA like a certain company in Bainbridge (in keeping with not mentioning brand names) and others use ratings similar to those on their full two-handed counterparts. I like my 12' 6wt and 12' 6" 5wt (both full spey rods and spey line weights) for trout on the Bow. If I were to get a switch for the Bow it would likely be an 11' 5wt (AFTMA) rod.
  17. If Rick fishes the same one I do it's this: http://www.fishtalesflyshop.com/feature-fl...aaron-caldwell/
  18. Rick, if I were your 12 year old daughter there would be all kinds of other things wrong with that!

  20. It varies. I saw Blade Runner in the theatre when it first came out, so I would've been 10 at the time. Still one of my favourite movies.
  21. Battlestar Galactica was the best sci fi in recent years and a great example of how to relaunch something the right way. Might be a little too much for a 12 year old, though.
  22. The guy that played McCoy was perfect, the new Spock was pretty good, but the new Chekhov was damn annoying. The rest were meh, though Uhura is hot. Wasn't impressed by the story (wow, time travel in a Star Trek story - how inspired) or anything else about it really. And I'm not a big Star Trek fan, so it isn't like I'm some geek who's upset by the changes they made.
  23. I've seen Distance and Delicacy and Cracking the Code. Pretty decent videos, but as I've said before - Henrik's fish handling makes me shudder. After thinking about it, I realized that the main reason I was disappointed with Skagit Master was that I was looking for something a little more intermediate to advanced. The best part in the video was him doing some improvised casts around obstacles in the water.
  24. I really liked this entry too. http://www.drakemag.com/videos/2009-films/242-slam
  25. If you're happy with your 6 wt instead of replacing it you could always go with a 4 wt or 8 wt instead. You may or may not notice a difference between your current 6 wt and a different one.
