  1. Yeah, considering that all the other Arc'Teryx jackets seem to be $650 and up I had a feeling that jacket would be significantly higher. Plenty of good fishing jackets out there already for under $600 - Simms, Patagonia, Cloudveil, etc.
  2. This guy probably wouldn't show up...
  3. Just enough drag to keep from backspooling for me as well. I frequently just use my finger to press the fly line against the cork instead of palming, though not advisable if a fish is running fast.
  4. Yeah, I'm pretty sure Rick will be there since it's at his house and all...
  5. Yeah, I've been using those ones as well and I don't think they're that much more expensive than the regular ones. I have them in red, yellow, and green. Not sure if there are more colours than those.
  6. I could do Saturday, but not Sunday.
  7. Glue them down to a toothpick or something similar using some white glue. It'll be strong enough to hold them on while you paint but not so much that you can't pop them off when you're done.
  8. Yes. That's why I use a fast and easy tie like the chenille stone for my anchor fly.
  9. Are you talking about actual Czech nymph patterns or flies to use with Czech nymphing techniques? Most of my Czech nymphs are evil weevils without the tail and legs and flat lead wrapped underneath to give them weight. You want them heavy and with little drag so they get deep fast. I've used a chenille stonefly nymph with lots of flat lead underneath and a big tungsten bead with lots of success as well while Czech nymphing. Talk to John Bransfield, he's the local Czech nymphing expert.
  10. Nice flies Mitch. Something about that second one I really like. I've been tying a lot of big bright streamers for 'nooks lately including string leeches. Decided to try making a MOAL/string leech for trout...
  11. The Bow can be a tough river to fish. Reading the water on the Bow can be difficult, especially if you're used to smaller rivers. I'd suggest hiring a guide to show you some spots or post in the get togethers section next time you're here to see if someone will head out with you. Those two options will help lower the learning curve.
  12. Just pop over to the other thread and you can see which is which. Pretty easy since there are only 3. http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?showtopic=10941
  13. Not an astounding picture, but my favourite. When my dog was younger I tried taking him fishing, but he kept wandering off so I had to leave him at home. Last spring he turned 4, so I decided to give it another try. This was the first fish he ever saw and he's been out with me almost every time since. It's gotten to the point where if I even touch any of my gear he runs to the front door.
  14. Shoulda used the pokey one...
  15. woah, Woah, WOAH. Everyone knows...
  16. If you're talking about the Oregon kind, I'm with you all the way. N'western and Auburn is turning out to be a good game too.
  17. C'est la vie I've been a Canes fan since the Jimmy Johnson days, so I'm used to the ups and downs. I'm just happy they beat FSU this year since it's Bowden's swan song. Now if West Virginia beats them today I'll feel a whole lot better.
  18. I have a fast action 8'2" 2wt with a 2wt line that I've used on the Oldman, Liv, etc. to toss everything from size 20 adams to size 8 chernobyls. I enjoy the setup and haven't had any trouble loading it to fish short distances (under 20'), but I could see someone else not liking it as much. Never cast glass or grass, so I can't compare it.
  19. Back in the early 90's a friend of mine played for the U of C Dinos football team the year they went to the Vanier Cup but lost. Afterwards, they were invited by a Division II or III school (I think it was in Montana or Washington) to play an exhibition game. They played one half using American rules and half using Canadian rules, though on an American size field. They got routed. My friend said the linebackers were faster than their best wideouts.
  20. Just the taper that didn't suit me, so totally a personal preference thing. I also do a lot of single hand spey casts and the 40+ is just better for those.
  21. No experience with them, but wow are they pricey. Have you looked at any of the other sealed drag reels (if that's what you're looking for) like Nautilus, Danielsson, or Loop?
  22. I started typing out a long reply, but it's just not worth it. You don't get it and I doubt you ever will. My original replies to you still stand.
  23. Yeah, the politics and emotion behind it is huge. I'd bet the odds of being killed by a drunk driver are higher, but we don't see the government spending the same kind of money on extra checkstops or putting breathalyzers in every car. I saw that graphic and just thought it was interesting. I don't even know that the math is correct.
  24. I have a Rio Outbound Short - not quite the same as the regular Outbound. Not a big fan of it to be honest. I prefer the 40+ personally.
