So the Colts are 4 point favourites right now. Personally I think that's way too low and expect the Colts will pick apart the Saints' terrible defence. The Colts played way too good yesterday and the Saints only won in overtime because Favre was beat up.

Unless of course if it was dried leaves from a certain green plant that you lost...

Just checked my copy. The pattern is almost identical to the one in this link: http://speypages.com/speyclave/showthread.php?t=31417

The title of the post says "Bow Intruders" not "Ed Ward's One True Intruder" (and there were a few other guys involved in creating it including Jerry French and Tucker English), if it's just about semantics. From what I've heard Ed Ward doesn't use deer hair on the intruders he ties any more. Does that mean he isn't tying Ed Ward's Intruders? Maybe we can leave the pedantic semantics of this alone and just see more pictures of intruder-ish flies people fish on the Bow? I know I've seen pics of some nice ones that Silverdoctor ties...

It's just bad advice, particularly the way it's worded. If I send you email with this in it: www.yourbank.com it looks like a link to yourbank.com but it's actually a link to evilphishingsite.com. If you right click the link, select copy link, then paste it into your address bar you get the same result as if you just clicked on the link. In that case you're better off just manually typing the address into your address bar - in this case www.yourbank.com. More importantly, most banks and other companies have thankfully gotten out of the habit of sending links in email. If in doubt, the best thing to do is phone the company or your bank to find out if the email is legit (just don't use any phone numbers included in the email). Better still, just don't click any links you get in email.

Number 2 in the list for avoiding "spear phishing" is incorrect. Right clicking the link, then copying and pasting it into the browser's address bar will still send you to the phishing website.

Here are a few links to tying instructions for "Ed Ward's Intruder". You can see that all three are fairly different... http://www.isomedia.com/homes/celestev/ins...st_intruder.pdf http://www.angelfire.com/wa/salmonid/fly574.html http://speypages.com/speyclave/showthread.php?t=31417

Yeah, I think I understand what you're saying. It's kind of weird, though. I've been using Partridge Czech Nymph hooks which are barbless as well and find my landing rate hasn't changed.

Last time I checked there weren't any requirements for making a fly an "intruder". More than anything I think it's about the shape of the fly and movement in the water. If you go to Speypages and search for "intruder" you'll find lots of flies that have a similar overall look and feel to them, but don't necessarily have the same materials or tying steps. You can tie them on tubes or on shanks with a stinger. I think sometimes we get too hung up on the names of things. Andy, what you've got there is a nice fly that'll catch fish. The fish probably don't care what it's called when they strike it either. Here are some I use on the Bow. I'd list the materials, but honestly I tie every one of them a bit different and I can't remember what's in them. More than likely they include rhea, ostrich, seal dubbing, polar bear, marabou, polar chenille, schlappen, saddle hackles, lady amherst, krystal flash, and/or flashabou. I generally tie mine on size 4 4xl streamer hooks, use 50lb spiderwire and a gamakatsu octopus hook for the trailer.

Tungsten, are you saying that the barbless hooks have a smaller gape than the barbed ones? If so, that can make a difference on getting a good hook set with smaller flies.

Peter, I'm pretty sure it's a $5 discount coupon for buying something from the FlyFusion store so you need to have something in your cart to use it.

I'm totally ADD about tying flies. After I tie a few of a certain pattern I get bored and have to tie something else instead. Usually that means tying a few nymphs, then a streamer, then a few more nymphs. I'll tie quite a bit while watching tv, but my most productive tying is the night before I know I'm going fishing. Then I just look at my fly box to see what I'm running low on and will probably need at that time of the year. Just make sure whatever routine you get into it's enjoyable for you.

Brad, I think the discount coupon was 2 years ago. There weren't any discount coupons last year that I can recall. Really, it's only $10 to get in and the parking is free. There are tons of free demos going on. How much does one trip to the fly shop cost you?

I think Tungsten is right about it being 70 denier UTC thread. That thread is made by Wapsi and they also make tying kits. 70 denier is made for flies size 14 and smaller - similar to 8/0 thread. Try using less tension on the thread and it should be fine for smaller stuff. Be careful around the hook point because if you catch your thread on it there's a good chance it'll break. I think there may be another answer for the fibres separating. The tying thread is basically just a bunch of fibres twisted together. If you let your bobbin dangle it'll sometimes start spinning counter clockwise - this is the thread untwisting. Sometimes you want to do this like when the tying directions say to use flattened thread to tie in a material. If the fibres are separating when you don't want them to, try spinning your bobbin clockwise a bit to re-twist it. I highly recommend a book like the Fly Tier's Benchside Reference or the Benchside Introduction to Fly Tying. Youtube is also a fantastic source of fly tying videos. I pretty much used those three sources to learn how to tie without a single lesson, though lessons aren't a bad thing.

Fly Fishing Gear Stolen

Any chance of posting some of the major gear that was stolen like the rods and reels? A lot of people here are always checking Kijiji, eBay, etc. for gear and might spot the stolen stuff being sold. -
