I'd be mildly interested as well depending on the date, and would have a spot for 1 other angler in my 3 man NRS if a larger party could be organized.

Sitting inside today, trying to recover from the flu, and dying of boredom, I stumbled across an old bookmark for TenkaraUSA and finally bit the bullet. I've always thought Tenkara rods would be a pretty usefull tool on some of the tiny meadows creeks I like to fish for native cutts and on my favorite Athabasca rainbow stream. Its impossible to make a cast in many spots on them because they are so narrow and choked over with willows the only way to catch anything is by dapping, but creeping to within a standard rod length of a decent pool often spooks them because of the deep undercut banks. I ordered up the 11 foot Iwana because it is the lightest model they offer and I'll primarily be using it on tiny headwaters creeks. Anybody else have a Tenkara? and any thoughts/comments on them? I'm looking forward to trying mine out next season.

I'm not ashamed at all. Would I be happy if he had been hurt or killed? Not in a million years. It could have been a bad situation but it wasn't. A good family friend broke his back when his quad rolled back on him about 20 years ago and he's never been the same since. It will probably end up shaving a good 25 years off his life with all the subsequent health problems he has had to endure. An accident is an accident and I don't wish them on anybody. However, any time I can see somebody take a nice cold bath without any physical harm, for a stupid move that could been seen coming a mile away, its going to give me a bit of a chuckle. Maybe he will think twice next time he wants to swim his quad upstream in high water through the Elbow. That clip is straight out of Americas Funniest Home videos or Dumbest Stuff On Wheels. If you ever see me take #2/0 lead weighted streamer to the nuts on a wayward backcast I give you permision to crack a smile.

I just read the article the other day and it's not about alternatives to hackle, its an article about alternatives to saddle hackle. All the patterns in the article use neck hackle which is still realatively easy to come by compared to the saddles.

There may be some light at the end of the tunnel! I just bought my first neck hackles in over a decade and WOW have they ever come a long way. I picked up a couple Whiting silver grade necks when I was in Fernie and they are almost as good as the saddles now. Many of the feathers on these necks are easily half as long as the Whiting saddle feathers and some almost 2/3 the length, all with nice thin stems and uniform barb length. Ton's of feathers sized from bigger than I ever use all the way down to the 20's on each neck. If you are like me and have not bought a neck hackle in years check them out now, they are sooo much better than what they used to be and are still somewhat readily available and affordable unlike the saddles.

Ya, I was just looking at that the other day too, my $500 hackle box is now worth about $5000. Apparantly all of Whitings hackle is spoken for until 2013. It's only gonna get worse.

Very sad news, he was magic at the vise. I was a big fan of his tying and used to mail order alot of materials from his catalogue before he started having all the health problems. He will be missed.

I dont think the park gates sell them anymore. I got mine at the Fishin Hole last year, maybe give them a call and see if they have any license books yet, and if so you can pick one up tonight. In the years before I've gotten them at the Hardware store in Banff (Home Hardware I think), or the flyshop in Canmore. Neither probably opens until 9-10 tomorrow morning though.

I ordered a pair of Patagonia Watermasters in XXLK online. I'm 6'1" and close to 300lbs and they are huge on me. I'm was going to put them on Ebay but they may fit your buddy and I'll let them go cheap if he is interested.

5-6 is about right before they start to get dull.

I'm 6'1" and they reach about 5-6" from my armpits so they should be OK. If not, a seamstress could very easily shorten them in a couple minutes.

I finally found mine. They are brand new Bare Packable waders size XXL, although they fit smaller than my Simms or Patagonia XXL's. The only bad thing is they are not breathable, just a coated fabric so they probably wont be the most durable or comfortable, but there is no neoprene. Let me know if you are still looking for some and you can have these.

If you are not dead set on a camper, you could look at these fiberglass trailers: http://www.trilliumtrailers.com/ They are made here in Calgary and cost about $15,000 new, but you can get a used Boler/Trillium/Surfside starting at about $3000. I pull a Boler behing my Ranger and have no problems whatsoever.

What size? I think I have a pair of Bare packable waders without any neoprene I bought a few years ago but never ended up using. I cant remember if they are xl or xxl, but I'll take a look for them for you if you are in that size range.

Wholesale Sports has the Superfly dye. Any of the shops in town should be able to order it in for you very quickly though.

Those shark corkies have been around since the 70's. Of course back then you had to use three of them though.
