I think people use that "rule" and forget how much weight they have on their line. The reason why you fish deeper than the water is to account for arc in your line. If you're fishing a super heavy system, like a wire worm, and mending correctly, it's going to hang down more vertically. Typically guys are running a heavy fly and another bead headed thing. Those flies are going to be straight down dragging in the muck. Tapping bottom constantly is just going to have you ripping line on the water, snagging up and spooking fish. One or two taps a drift max, preferably a tap every couple of casts. Much easier for a fish to pick up a fly 3-6+" off bottom than one running right on it. I'd bet they don't hit anything right on bottom, or their snouts would be chewed up. A whitefish on the other hand...much different anatomy. That's not to say whites won't eat like trout, they take drys and streamers, but they can take stuff off the bottom more readily.

Ya saw a brown tonight about 20 or so inches with a head covered in it. Thought it was dead as it was belly up, but swam when I moved it. Don't think it had much time left.
-
Oh come on...A whitefish over 20 should get a little respect! weve always had whites at a neg 1 but a 3lb whitey still brings a bit of a smile to my face.

Deeper and slower?! I was going to say shallower and faster!

Flyfishy gonna have a heyday with this one. Cue the ramblings. Nice fish

If you want something a little more versatile, try rio in touch trout LT excellent for nymph rigs--no real back casting. Just roll casts and single hand Spey casts. Yet casts drys nicely and delicately. An indicator line might be a little more splashy and crude for fishing dries.

I would expect high water? That is pretty much the peak of the freshet on most years. -
Bow River Access In The City Of Calgary

Pretty big stink made over one 1000 foot gravel bar in the middle of a major city. People need to relax and realize it is what it is. What are the ecological impacts of driving over cobble? "Maybe" less plant life? Well, It floods every year. This isn't soft earth that gets stirred up and introduces sediment into the stream every time someone is in the area. It's orange/grapefruit sized stones and larger. Oh by the way, Who was this caller complaining of people on the bar? Eh, jpinkster? Ha ha Just teasing-- but still I think everyone is getting way too worked up about cars on this stable bar/on a dam-controlled/major/metropolitan River.- 66 replies

Warm Temps In Calgary - Cause For Concern?
Dangus replied to jpinkster's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
So you get a dampened freshet. How does that affect the warm temps of late July and August? Here's a solution, finally impose a bloody watering restriction on lawns. It's a fn free for all right now. Idiots growing mushrooms on their lawn in a drought. -
Warm Temps In Calgary - Cause For Concern?
Dangus replied to jpinkster's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
There is a snow pack. Warm weather will melt it and will temporarily help the low spring flows so don't worry about temps. It will screw us though if June is dry too. We got 4-5mm in mar and April where the norm is 18 and 25. Typically May, June, July are the wettest months so there is still hope. -

I like my bvk 10, I bought a 5 for an extra boat rod and don't really like it -
Doesn't that just simulate a freshet anyways? Lots of rivers start their freshet late April or early May.

There are some nice fish in vaseux by osoyoos. I've caught them using buzz baits (on my one and only gear rod) around the lily pads by the pullout/park near the cliff that says "man someone must drive into this rock face time to time." A little tricky wading in the muck, but I'm sure a popper would work great.

Oh ya forgot about those lakes ha. Bunch of lakes around Jaffray have them. I've seen pics of them up to around 8lb. Wasa lake has a few too

Some boats may find themselves high and dry!

I'm emailing them to see. The principle is killing me.

Ok fine, I can agree sure sign it I guess, nbd. But hard copy when it's issued digitally? What's the rationale?
-
That's retarded. Like a signature somehow activates it.

You can sign it using markup on your iPhone. There's no reason to say you have to have a physical copy if they're willing to sell it to you electronically.

Just put it on your phone.... Plus the bc licenses update when you add a cw and you can just print a new one and throw the old one away.
