  1. Loop the hooks on the wire before tying onto the shank. Pull an eraser out of a bic pencil or something and put it on the hook point so you don't stab yourself while tying. Like I said, you won't likely be able to change the hook out, but I don't find that's usually an issue, especially if you tie it hook point Riding up.
  2. Fair enough. Moral of the story for the home tiers: too long a wire. I'll put this in the lonely category of things we agree on. Great success.
  3. Well, at least they're more proactive than Alberta where we can't seem to say no to a barb. The wig and the Michel were really turning into a shitshow. I think that you'll have less days, but the ones you get will be better.
  4. Good point. Not really a problem with the fly style, just some guys get carried away with the length of the stinger. The point of the stinger is not only improve hook sets on short takes, but also defeats the leverage issue that long shanks can have. Also, you can switch them out for new hooks. Typically I find that I lose the fly or beat it up so bad that I just chuck it anyways. Plan to leave your stinger well within the fibers of your fly and you shouldn't grab any gill rakes.
  5. Look for areas with twoonie to golfball sized cobble, eel grass and little to no sand. Close to a deep drop off if possible. I tended to find fish better on low slack tide. Don't always need big flashy streamers. Often you fish with size 8 versions of wooly buggers, flash flies, California neils, muddlers etc. As far as I recall, There will be a few pinks about as well as they don't alternate even/odd year as dramatically as on the mainland. Typically beach stuff is better later into the summer and early fall.
  6. You are aware this is a discussion forum, yes? Sorry, I was unaware that contributors were supposed to assume what you did and did not want to hear.
  7. I raised a point about fishermen using chemicals that can have unintended consequences, and I'm lambasted for unleashing such an offensive and personal attack. meanwhile, the two bigf'ers tell eachother to keep on, Keepin on. "Don't let him get you down, girlfriend!" I think that they do feel a bit of guilt/shame for using these chemicals and try to hide that by appearing proud about it or even using more of it. A typical juvenile move. Just like kiddie porn insults. Do whatever you gotta do, guys.
  8. Ohhh! Here we go! Two big F'ers! Your clover has really got your balls in a knot.
  9. Yes, I have a surface capable of forming condensation on between my nose and my feet. Brilliant retort. I wouldn't expect anything less.
  10. I'm just impressed you guys can even see your screens with all your mouth-breathing.
  11. Exactly why these products are horseshit. It's supposed To piss rain tomorrow. Ends up down the storm drain before it's broken down. Should be good for the river plant life.
  12. Interesting. Here's the link if anyone wants a read. http://healthyshorelines.com/media/The_Law_and_the_Lake.pdf
  13. All I can find is that you have to keep your wheels out of the streambed. Where is the parking/launching distinction made?
  14. Parking there for 2 hours does more damage than an in/out launch? Sorry, just trolling again.
  15. Cct body fur sculpin 25mm shank Size 2 game b10 or r 10 hook Senyo wire/beading wire 2 large beads (optional) Large olive sculpin helmet Olive bunny strip Cct body fur Red crystal flash Olive green and brown marker. Tie 2" strip of bunny to shank, then your body fur and wrap forward. Tie off. Loop wire through eye of 25mmshank, add beads and tie onto hook shank. Keeping in mind that hook shank will be up. Tie body fur onto hook and wrap forward. Tie in two short pieces of bunny as pectoral fins and add crystal flash on bottom. Super glue/bond sculpin helmet on so that hook shank rides pointing up. Trim fur to a nice taper. Colour top half of body fur with olive to give you a two toned fly. Bar the pectoral fins with brown Marker if you wish. Awesome fly. Rarely hangs up, great movement and always gets deep. (Split shot is for losers ) I was dangling on at my feet at the base of some narrow falls a couple years ago. Had a legit 30" bull come 10 feet off the bottom and grab it a foot below the surface. Wish I had the GoPro running.
  16. Deleted. Didn't contribute anything positive.
  17. Swinging flies on a two hander is wonderful. You should buy one just for that. If you want a versatile rod for the bow and maybe even steel I think you could go anywhere from 10'6 to 12 feet (switch or Spey) in 5-7 weight. Lean to heavier if you want steel. I fish summers with a 6 switch and winters with a 7/8 Spey.
  18. Kinda blows my mind that as outdoorsmen/fishermen, you guys would be spraying that garbage all over your lawn. Not a Trolling comment. Just sayin. I know it's "just one lawn." But it's still your contribution. Dandelions are fairly easy to root out with the right tool. Just takes a little time and effort. No need to spray.
  19. The further you get out, the more currents you have your line in. Mending becomes impossible (or just an excruciating pain in the ass). When nymphing, I don't usually feel the need to cast much further than 40 feet in most scenarios. Hell, I'd bet 80 percent is 30 or less. Measure it...I think most guys add 20 to the estimate of their casts.
  20. Bcube and bron, the trolls! High five buddy!
  21. Nymphing with a two hander sucks-even with a switch. Don't fool yourself Into thinking a switch will ever be fished SH. I did, and I haven't single handed mine since the week I bought it.
  22. Sorry, Jordan I realize that came across as rather cold. I know all the commenters intentions are right but it's something to think about.
  23. First, Spawn when? Its an exposed bar during all spawning periods. Second, where? It's tennis ball sized and larger rocks. Not exactly redd material. Pick your battles. You're taking up enforcement time To "protect" a 500 foot section of urban shoreline with questionable amount of habitat. If it's about the city being pissed. They should really just put a better sign in, fine the odd douche and take it for what it is. Id rather have an officer available to nab poachers and polluters in fragile habitat of native wild species.
  24. I'd def post more pictures on here if it wasn't such a pita. Other forums are much easier
